The ceremony, organised by Longines and the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA), will be held at The Savoy in London. The world's highest-rated horse in the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings (WBRR) and the Longines World's Best Horse Race of the 2023 will be honoured during the programme.

This is the 11th edition of the ceremony honouring the Longines WBR and the ninth edition paying tribute to the Longines World's Best Horse Race. Connections of the winners will be presented with a watch and a replica of a trophy of a proud horse head. From the start, Knicks Go sprinted clear of his rivals in the Classic, eventually pulling away to a 2 ¾-length victory over Medina Spirit (USA) [123]. Essential Quality (USA) [122] was three-quarters of a length behind in third, while Hot Rod Charlie (USA) [121] finished fourth.

With his win in the Classic, Knicks Go improved his rating to 128 from 124. His other victories throughout the year include the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1), Whitney Stakes (G1), Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap (G3), and Lukas Classic Stakes (G3).

Another horse who improved his rating during the Breeders' Cup World Championships is Life Is Good (USA) [123]. His rating rose to 123 from 120 following his 5 ¾-length score in the Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1). Furthermore, Yibir (GB) [120] is newly ranked following his win in the LONGINES Breeders' Cup Turf (G1).

British Champions Day also played host to a number of memorable performances. Baaeed (GB) [124] is now co-seventh in the rankings following his performance in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (G1). Both are newly ranked off their efforts. Hurricane Lane (IRE) [123] finished a short head behind in third to raise his rating to 123 from 121, while Adayar (IRE) [127] was fourth.

Torquator Tasso came into the Arc having won the 149th Wettstar Grosser Preis von Baden (G1) by a length in September. Earlier in the season, he took the Grosser Hansa-Preis der Baum Unternehmensgruppe (G2) by 4 ½ lengths.

Mishriff improved his rating to 127 from 124 with an effortless victory in the Juddmonte International Stakes (G1), which he won by six lengths. Earlier this season, Mishriff won the Saudi Cup and Longines Dubai Sheema Classic (G1) before returning to Europe.

In July, Adayar earned his rating of 127 when he defeated Mishriff in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes (G1), while St Mark's Basilica received that mark after having won the Coral-Eclipse (G1) over Aeeybb (IRE) [121] and Mishriff. St Mark's Basilica is expected to race on Saturday in the Irish Champion Stakes (G1) during Longines Irish Champions Weekend.

Meanwhile, in his first attempt at top level company, Baaeed (GB) [121] took the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (G1) by 1 ¼ lengths. In doing so, he improved his rating to 121 from 120, which he had earned after his 6 ½ length score in the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (G3) in July.
