Arqana December Sale Catalogue Online

The catalogue for Arqana's December Breeding Stock Sale, which begins on Saturday, Dec. 9, is now available online.

A total of 1000 fillies, broodmares and foals have been catalogued across the four days of trade in Deauville. Among the more notable names set to sell are G1 Prix de l'Opera winner Place Du Carrousel (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) and the Classic winners Channel (Ire), who is to be sold in foal to Wootton Bassett (GB), and Palmas (Ger), who is in foal to Frankel (GB).

The sale also features a 13-strong dispersal of the stock of Dietrich Von Boetticher's Gestut Ammerland, including Wildfeder (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), a winning 5-year-old sister to the Arc winner Waldgeist (GB) who is offered in foal to Siyouni (Fr).

Aga Khan Filly Tops Second Straight Session at Arqana

One day after the Aga Khan-bred and -consigned Shahnameh (Fr) (Churchill {Ire}) topped the proceedings at the Arqana Vente d'Elevage, another of the operation's 3-year-old filly was the star turn in Deauville, as the unraced Vazzana (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}) was knocked down for €120,000 to lead the way during the penultimate session of the auction.

Catalogued at lot 716, the bay filly is a daughter of Vazira (Fr) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), winner of three of her six career starts, including the 2014 G1 Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp one start after taking the G3 Prix Vanteaux at her second career run. The female family also includes fellow Prix Saint-Alary heroine Vadawina (Ire) (Unfuwain), the dam of Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed The Pentagon (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and SW/MGSP Vedouma (Fr) (Dalakhani {Ire}); and G1 Prix du Moulin winner Vadamos (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}).

“She's a lovely mare,” said Katie Rudd, who signed the ticket on behalf of Busherstown. “She'll come back to Ireland. It's the first time I've bought at the Vente d'Elevage–the market is strong.”

Trainnah (GB), a daughter of the influential Pivotal (GB), fetched €55,000 from Jamie Piggott Bloodstock to rank as the session's second-dearest offering. Consigned by Haras de Castillon, the 9-year-old mare is a half-sister to the dual group-winning James Garfield (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) and to the dam of SW & MGSP Nate The Great (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}). Trainnah's dam Whazzat (GB) (Daylami {Ire}) is a half-sister to the dam of US champion turf female Uni (GB) (More Than Ready). Trainnah was sold in foal to Ectot (GB).

Nearly four out of every five horses (217) offered during Monday's session were reported as sold for gross turnover of €2,540,000. The average of €11,704 improved by 12.77% over last year, while the median price of €8,500 represented a gain of 21.4%.

Entering Tuesday's final session, 613 horses have changed hands for €56,099,500. The average of €91,516 and median of €26,000 are well ahead of last year's numbers.

A full-sister to G3 Horris Hill S. hero Knight (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}), dual group winner Malavath (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) (lot 199) became the new topper at €3.2 million in Deauville on Sunday. Eva-Maria Bucher-Haefner's Moyglare Stud bought the Ecurie des Monceaux star, who will stay in training and be shipped Stateside to join the Christophe Clement barn. The evolution of Malavath in the ring started when Star Bloodstock spend £29,000 to pick up the chestnut out of the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale. Sent back through as a breeze-up horse, the blaze-faced filly brought €134,400 from David Redvers and Meridian after a trip through the ring at the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale.

A half-sister to listed winner Toujours l'Amour (GB) (Authorized {Ire}), Sweet Lady is out of dual stakes winner High Heel Sneakers (GB) (Dansili {GB}), who ran second in the G2 May Hill S. and third in the G3 Prix Vanteaux during her racing days.

The talented and well-related Burgarita (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) (lot 177) was the first seven-figure lot at Arqana on Saturday, making €1.7 million from Anthony Stroud. Bound for the Godolphin fold, the bay filly-in-training was offered by Baroda Stud. A dual listed winner, the half-sister to G3 Prix Allez France heroine Aquamarine (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) was second three times at group level and ran third in the G1 Prix de Diane. The bay foal was offered as part of the dispersal of Haras du Quesnay as lot 166. Also a half-sister to stakes winner and G2 Prix Greffulhe third Trois Rois (Fr) (Hernando {Fr}), the May foal counts the stakes-placed Trophee (Fr) (Mr. Sidney) as another half-sister. Officials at Arqana have announced the addition of two wild-card entries to the first part of the auction house's Vente d'Elevage Saturday, Dec. 3.

The two-year-old filly Next Episode (GB) (Kingman {GB}) will be offered by Ecurie des Monceaux as lot 200. Trained by Christophe Ferland, the bay filly was a debut winner in a six-furlong test on turf at Marseille-Borely Oct. 9 and followed up with a conditions score over the Deauville all-weather track Nov. 6. A daughter of the stakes-placed Nyarhini (GB) (Fantastic Light), Next Episode is a half-sister to listed winner Token of Love (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}), herself the dam of Listed Sir Henry Cecil S. winner Mighty Ulysses (GB) (Ulysses {Ire}). Nyarhini is a half-sister to G1 Coronation S. heroine Rebecca Sharp (GB) (Machiavellian), while the deeper female family includes Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}).

The listed-winning and Group 3-placed Mighty Blue (Fr) (Authorized {Ire}) will go through the ring as lot 150 from La Motteraye Consignment.
