The Victorious runner, trained by Fawzi Nass, raced in between rivals on the front end from the chute and dropped back for a breather rounding the bend as fellow front-runner Lahfaty (Mitole) asserted while pressed by Frost At Dawn (Frosted). Adrie de Vries urged his mount to quicken at the head of the straight and she duly obliged with a strong turn of foot, as they shifted out into the centre of the track to challenge in the lane. The chestnut forged past the leading duo and strode clear to win with authority. Three-and-a-half lengths separated the second, Lahfaty, and third, Kibo Misaki (Girvin).

“I got a little bit of pressure on the turn; it got a little bit tight,” said de Vries. “But once Jim's horse [Crowley, Frost At Dawn] came past me then it was just a matter of straightening up and she did the job pretty easy.

“I didn't want to be too hard on her, but I wanted to teach her something. Once she hits the front she doesn't do much–she's just having a look around. I guess that's a good thing.”

Part of the Taylor Made consignment at the 2022 Keeneland September Sale, the chestnut caught the eye of Lane Richardson, who shelled out $100,000 on behalf of Kevin Knuckley. Richardson Bloodstock re-offered Manama Gold at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training in March of 2023 after she breezed a furlong in :10 1/5. Already a half-sister to the stakes-placed Sethamee Street (Street Sense) and a full-sister to multiple stakes winner Ova Charged (Star Guitar), who has earned her black-type accolades in Lousiana where their sire stands, Manama Gold has a half-sister by Not This Time born last year. Her dam was barren to the cover of Star Guitar for this spring.

Owned by LNJ Foxwoods, Astute, a daughter of Speightstown and the Langfuhr mare Discerning, went gate-to-wire in her Oct. 12 debut on turf, then moved to dirt and stretched out an extra eighth of a mile to win the 6 1/2 furlong Desi Arnaz Stakes by 7 1/2 lengths Nov. 14 at Del Mar. Hall of Famer Mike Smith, who won the 2015 Starlet with Street Fancy, retains the mount on Astute, who has banked $93,000.

Seeking his fourth consecutive victory in the Starlet, Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert entered a trio – Princess Noor, Kalypso and Varda. Baffert's three Starlet wins in succession – all in tandem with jockey Drayden Van Dyke, who will ride Varda Saturday – have been provided by Dream Tree (2017), Chasing Yesterday (2018) and Bast (2019).

Owned by Rockingham Ranch and David Bernsen, Kalypso, a daughter of Brody's Cause and the Malibu Moon mare Malibu Cove has one win in three tries and has banked $64,100. The $240,000 yearling purchase earned her victory in a stakes, leading throughout in the Anoakia Oct. 18. The Starlet will be her first venture beyond six furlongs.

A Distorted Humor filly out of the Sky Mesa mare She'll Be Right owned by Baoma Corporation, Varda has been away since finishing a distant second in the Chandelier. She graduated first time out by 3 1/4 lengths Aug. 30 at Del Mar and has banked $73,000 in her two races.

Completing the field is Nasreddine, a $10,000 supplement by owners Andrew and Rania Warren. Trained by Michael McCarthy, the daughter of Nyquist and the Sky Mesa mare Appreciating, Nasreddine has a win in two starts and earnings of $45,200. The $360,000 yearling purchase scored a 7-1 upset over maidens at six furlongs Nov. 7.

“The filly seemed a bit nervous at the paddock but she broke well and we were able to race in good position and in good rhythm,” said winning rider Kohei Matsuyama. “There was some pressure as we were aiming for the first undefeated Triple Crown filly in JRA history, but I’m delighted to be able to accomplish this remarkable feat. I want to thank the filly and offer her my congratulations. She has developed into a bold filly and I hope that she will remain undefeated.”

Trainer Haruki Sugiyama and Matsuyama both celebrated their fourth Japanese Group 1 victory, while their star is possible for the Nov. 29 Japan Cup.

Not seen on the racecourse until November of her juvenile year, Daring Tact found 1600 metres at Kyoto to her liking at first asking, and added the Listed Elfin S. over that course and distance on Feb. 8. She stepped up again with a victory in the G1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) at Hanshin on Apr. 12, and, tried over 2400 metres for the first time, demolished her rivals with a victory in the May 24 G1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) at Tokyo. That was her final appearance prior to her victory on Sunday.
