The May 25 ruling stated that Dr. Steven Lascher failed “to follow proper Lasix procedures” in  the third race on May 19.

A New York Racing Association (NYRA) spokesperson had told TDN in the initial aftermath of the unintended match race that Lascher was “no longer employed by NYRA.”

It was unclear at deadline for this story if Lascher planned on lodging an appeal.

In a similar incident, Lascher was fined $4,000 for failing to administer Lasix to four horses at Belmont on June 9, 2022, which also contributed to scratches that caused a two-horse race (although three other scratches from that race were not related to the Lasix mix-up).

Lascher's first fine of $1,000 per scratched horse from the 2022 incident was doubled to $2,000 per scratched horse for the latest error.

NEW YORK
