Owned by Breeze Easy and trained by Wesley Ward, the bay colt proved best in the 4 ½-furlong race after hitting the wire 2 ¼ lengths in front, stopping the clock in 51.75 seconds over a fast Keeneland main track.

Bred in Kentucky by Ledgelands LLC & Andrew Ritter, Headline Report is out of the Tale of the Cat mare Green Eyed Cat. He was purchased by Breeze Easy for $550,000 at last month's OBS March sale for 2-year-olds in training in Ocala after breezing a furlong in a bullet 9.4 seconds. The price marked the highest for a colt by a freshman sire at the sale. He earned $36,724 for his debut victory.

Gormley captured some of California's biggest races at two and three. The millionaire son of Malibu Moon won the FrontRunner Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita in his second start as a juvenile before going on to capture the $1 million Santa Anita Derby (G1) and Sham S. (G3) at Santa Anita as a 3-year-old. The multiple Grade 1 winner earned $1,026,000 before retiring to stud at Spendthrift.

Gormley is standing the 2021 breeding season for a fee of $5,000 S&N and is participating in the farm's “Safe Bet” program that insures breeders by guaranteeing at least one graded stakes-winning juvenile in 2021 from Gormley's first crop or no stud fee will be owed for resulting foals in 2022.

A total of 561 juveniles have been cataloged for the two-day sale, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 16-17, with both sessions beginning at 11 a.m.

Hips 1 – 282 will sell on Tuesday: Hips 283 – 563 on Wednesday. The Under Tack Show will span three days, beginning Thursday, March 11 with Hips 1 – 188. Hips 189 – 376 will breeze Friday, March 12 and Hips 377 – 563 will go Saturday, March 13. All three sessions will begin at 8 a.m. The Under Tack Show and sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the TDN, DRF and Blood-Horse, and Past The Wire websites.

Gracing the front cover of the catalog is 2007 OBS March graduate Into Mischief, purchased for $180,000 by B. Wayne Hughes out of the M&H Training and Sales consignment. After winning three of six starts including the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park and earning nearly $600,000, he entered stud in 2009. Rising steadily the stallion ranks, he has topped the North American sire list for the past two years, becoming the first stallion breaking the $20-million mark in single-season progeny earnings in 2020. The long list of his current and recent major winners is headed by reigning Horse of the Year Authentic. His son Goldencents, also an OBS 2-year-old graduate, was the leading third crop sire in 2020.

For the past few years, OBS March graduates have upheld the sale's legacy as a prime source of top class racehorses. Twenty-nine March graduates have accounted for 41 graded stakes wins since the beginning of 2019, with 166 winning or placing in 376 stakes.

A $280,000 purchase at the OBS March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, Reinvestment Risk won geared down at the finish, earned a 90 Beyer Speed Figure. He is the second winner from the first crop of foals sired by Upstart, a son of the A.P. Indy stallion Flatter standing at Brereton C. Jones' Airdrie Stud in Midway, Ky.

Out of the Candy Ride mare Ridingwiththedevil, Reinvestment Risk wintered at Payson Park in Florida before shipping north to Monmouth Park for continued preparation. The precocious bay arrived at Saratoga in mid-July and breezed twice on the main track including a five-eighths work from the gate in 59.89 on July 26 ahead of his eye-opening win.

“He ran super. He trained super all spring down at Monmouth with my assistant Luis Cabrera, who had the horse early on,” said Brown. “We transferred him up here and we've always liked him. Our team here did a fantastic job with him. Mike Ryan, my partner in all our bloodstock work, picked him out from the De Meric consignment, another farm we use a lot. Everyone that's touched the horse or been involved with him has raved about him, so I'm happy he lived up to that on his debut.”

Brown said the Grade 1, $250,000 Runhappy Hopeful, a seven-furlong sprint on Closing Day, September 7 could be in the cards.

“You'd sure think so,” said Brown. “If he comes out of the race well and especially having a race over the track, it looks like we'd have enough time between starts. I'll talk to Mr. Klarman about it. It's always exciting to have a nice 2-year-old.”
