Shadwell Stud's Champion Sprinter Muhaarar (GB), who has stood the last two years at Haras des Faunes in the south of France, will now be owned by Shadwell and a consortium of French breeders and will be moved to Haras du Petit Tellier in Normandy, according to Eric Puerari. Puerari said that Muhaarar's stud fee would be announced at the end of the year.

The group of breeders is comprised of Jean-Pierre Dubois and several generations of his family, Haras des Capucines, Haras de Saint-Pair, and several others. Sheikha Hissa will retain half of the shares in the stallion, and the syndicate will be managed by Capucines Bloodstock, with Puerari at the helm.

A Shadwell homebred, Muhaarar was champion sprinter of 2015, when he won the G1 Commonwealth Cup, G1 July Cup, G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest and G1 British Champions Sprint S. as a 3-year-old. He began his career at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud, beginning at a fee of £30,000. He was moved to Haras des Faunes after the death of Sheikh Hamdan in a two-year arrangement.

“He started at Shadwell, and the first two years, he was so popular it was impossible to get a season,” said Puerari. But after a relatively slow start at stud, and the death of Sheikh Hamdan, Shadwell accepted an offer from Faunes. The stallion has been very hot the past two years, and after breeding 54 mares at Faunes in 2022 at a €5,000 fee, he covered 124 in 2023 at a €7,500 fee.

“Last year, he had an exceptional year and when you look at his statistics, he's boxing way above his weight for a horse who stood this year for an advertised stud fee of €7,500,” said Puerari. “Last year, he had an amazing percentage of stakes winners per runners. His numbers are very good. He's been kind of a forgotten horse.”

In 2023, Muhaarar has been represented by Marhaba Ya Sanafi (Ire), the winner of the G1 French Guineas, who went on to be third in the G1 French Derby, and Cicero's Gift (GB) an undefeated 'TDN Rising Star' through his first three starts before missing in the G1 St. James's Palace S.

His recent top runners demonstrate his versatility. 'TDN Rising Star' Be Your Best (Ire) was second in the GI Del Mar Oaks at nine furlongs on the turf on Friday; Run To Freedom (GB) was second in the six-furlong G1 July Cup on July 15; three days earlier, 'TDN Rising Star' Israr (GB) won the G2 Princess of Wales's S. at twice that distance; and this spring at Santa Anita, Motorius won the GIII San Simon S. at 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf.

“He does tend to produce horses who stay, which is strange for a sprinter, because he's by Oasis Dream (GB),” said Puerari, “but when you look at Oasis Dream's pedigree, there's a lot of staying blood. We think he really fits a niche that we don't have in France in the €10,000-€15,000 range. For example, this year when Mishriff got hurt, after Intello, Galiway, Goken, and few others, there's not much. Not many people are going to travel to England and Ireland to breed for €10,000. So I think he should be very popular.”

Muhaarar will travel from Bordeaux to Normandy this coming week, where he will be available for breeders' inspection.

“He gets good-looking stock and he is himself a very good-looking horse,” he said. “He's a very well balanced horse. He's mid-sized. Very dark bay, no white. He's very handsome horse, with a beautiful head.

“We'll decide on his stud fee later. We'll wait for the end of the year and put him at a fee where people won't try to negotiate, because he'll be good value.”

13.30 Hannover, Cond, €20,000, 3yo, 12fT
QUANTANAMERA (GER) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) has her seasonal bow in this Derby-Trial which formerly carried listed status and is quite a presence, having beaten this week's listed scorer Empore (Ger) (Oasis Dream {GB}) by 8 1/2 lengths when last seen in Baden-Baden's G3 Preis der Winterkonigin in October. Bred to appreciate middle distances, Jurgen Sartori's Andreas Suborics trainee is the sole filly against six colts as she bids to further her claims for both the July 2 G1 Deutsches Derby and Aug. 6 G1 Preis der Diana.

2nd-KEE, $100k, Msw, 2yo, f, 6f, 1:31p.m. ET
Conditioner Brendan Walsh sends out a blue-blooded filly here in HUMBLING (Quality Road), who lays claim to a stellar female family which includes 'TDN Rising Star', GISW (and eventual producer of 'Rising Stars') Hot Dixie Chick (Dixie Union) and GI Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming (Bodemeister). The former has a pair of talented offspring to her credit when counting GISW Pauline's Pearl (Tapit) and GSP Union Jackson (Curlin). Humbling, a $1 million FTSAUG purchase by Jeff Drown and Michael Ryan in 2021, claims Positive Spirit (Pioneerof the Nile) as a half-relation, who changed hands to Spendthrift Farm in 2020 for $1.5 million at FTKNOV. The dam Above Perfection (In Excess {Ire}) herself earned GISP black-type with a runner-up effort in the Prioress. Humbling will break from the far outside in a full field of 12 and is coming in off a co-bullet gate work Sept. 29, covering four furlongs beneath the Twin Spires in :47.20 (1/48). TJCIS PPs

11th-KEE, $100k, Msw, 3yo/up, 7f, 6:18p.m. ET
Repole and St Elias Stable partner once again to send out OLD POINT (Curlin), half-brother to GISW & GI Breeders' Cup Classic runner-up Collected (City Zip). Purchased as a yearling in 2020 for $475,000 at KEESEP, the chestnut is half to stakes-producer Helena's Triomphe (Arch) and hails from the family of GSP Koala Princess (More Than Ready). Bred by Three Chimneys, Runnymede, and Peter Callahan, Old Point took some time to get to the races but has made religious appearances on the work tab leading up to this debut. Todd Pletcher will send him out with Irad Ortiz Jr. getting the call for the seven panel sprint. TJCIS PPs

1st-BAQ, $95k, Msw, 2yo, f, 6fT, 12:35p.m. ET
Shipping in from Europe after being purchased for 420,000gns at TATOCT, EIN GEDI (IRE) (Oasis Dream {GB}) will carry not just the popular flag of MyRacehorse but those of Siena Farm, Peter Deutsch, Michael Kisber, and The Elkstone Group. Out of the stakes-winning Splashdown (GB) (Falbrav {Ire}), the filly is a half to Spanish Champion 2-year-old filly Reina Madre (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) and is a full-sibling to 11-time winner, GSW Aktabantay (GB). This is the female family of Italian Champion 3-year-old filly and blue hen Proskona (Mr. Prospector), who counted nine black-type earners as the dam or granddam, and herself was half to German Highweight horse Keos. The Chad Brown barn will send Ein Gedi to post with Manny Franco in the irons. TJCIS PPs

4th-SA, $61k, Msw, 2yo, f, 6f, 5:34p.m. ET
RILEY G (Flatter) will carry not just the torch for Zedan Racing and Bob Baffert, but also another big tag after being secured for $625,000 at OBSOPN; zipping a furlong in :9 4/5 back in June. The grey is a half to three winners, but black-type makes an appearance underneath the second dam, who claims GI Darley Alcibiades victress Wickedly Perfect (Congrats). That mare later produced Japanese GSW Hartley (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) in her adoptive country after selling for $800,000 KEEJAN to Katsumi Yoshida in 2011.

A filly by Churchill (Ire) out of the dual listed-placed Rabiosa Fiore (GB) (Sakhee's Secret {GB}) emerged as the €200,000 top lot during Saturday's SGA Yearling Sale in Milan. Consigned by Razza Vedano, the Mar. 6 foal (lot 28), named Rinnovati (Ity), is a half-sister to the two-time stakes winner Amalaura (Ire) (Raven's Pass). Another half-sister, the Saxon Warrior (Jpn) filly Rage Of Bamby (Ire) graduated at Leicester on Sept. 6. Marco Bozzi was in action for the relative of French Classic heroine East Of The Moon (Private Account).

Bozzi also struck for seven other lots on Saturday, shelling out €90,000 for another Vedano draftee in lot 25, a son of Sea The Stars (Ire) out of Listed Premio Terme di Merano heroine Orange Sun (GB) (Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}). That sire had topped the 2021 edition of the sale with a €120,000 colt. Originally a 30,000gns Tatteralls December foal, the colt is a half-brother to a pair of winners. Third dam Field Of Hope (Ire) (Selkirk)'s best day in the sun was a victory in the 1999 G1 Prix de la Foret.

Also from Vedano was lot 15, the Zoffany (Ire) colt Interstellar (Ity), out of the Group 3-placed Irene Watts (GB) (Miswaki Tern), who hammered for €100,000 to Micchiche' Gaetano. He is a half-brother to Il Grande Gatsby (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}), who has won at the listed level in Italy and ran third in the G3 Premio Parioli.

The sale got off to a fast start with lot 4, a colt by Holy Roman Emperor (Ire) out of Listed Criterium Femminile victress Biz Bar (GB) (Tobougg {GB}), making €85,000 from Antonio Caracciolo. The bay's sire was also responsible for the smart G2 Clipper Logistics Boomerang Mile hero Jadoomi (Fr) in Ireland on Saturday. From the Allevamento Le.Gi. consignment, the colt is a half-brother to six black-type horses, anchored by G1 Gran Premio di Milano scorer Biz The Nurse (Ire) (Oratorio {Ire}), and the group winners Misterious Boy (Ire) (Arcano {Ire}) and Biz Power (Ire) (Power {GB}).

Another Coolmore sire was in the limelight shortly thereafter, as lot 12, a Le.Gi.-consigned filly by Wootton Bassett (GB) named Snow Roses (Ity) caught the eye of Powerstown Stud at €70,000. She had passed through the Arqana December ring for €85,000 as a foal. Her dam was twice stakes-placed, and is a half-sister to group winners Voice Of Love (Ire) (Poet's Voice {GB}) and Time Chant (GB) (War Chant).

Le.Gi. was also the consignor on record for lot 32, a Gleneagles (Ire) filly, who made €76,000 on the bid of Immobiliare Casa Paola. She had been a €30,000 Goffs November buyback last year. The daughter of Sopran Enery (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) is a half-sister to the G2 Premio Oaks d'Italia winner Auyantepui (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), while under the G3 Italian 1000 Guineas-winning second dam Sopran Londa (Ire) (Danehill) is the G1 Italian Derby hero Cima De Triomphe (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) among others.

Razza del Sole offered Milano City (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}) (lot 22) on Saturday, and Valfredo Valiani snapped up the son of dual listed winner Mujadil Lachy (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) for €75,000. His well-related dam is a half-sister to a trio of stakes winners led by G3 Premio Tudini and G3 Premio Omenoni scorer Titus Shadow (Ire) (Titus Livius {Fr}).

From a catalogue of 158, 135 yearlings went through the ring, with 92 (68.1%) finding new homes for a gross of €1,852,500. The average increased to €20,136 (+7.4%), however the median dipped 16.7% to €10,000.

Classic winner Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) is “thriving” ahead of a start in Wednesday's G1 Juddmonte International S., according to trainer Charlie Appleby. The Godolphin-owned colt was most recently third in the G1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown last month.

“He's got the constitution of a rhinoceros–he just loves it,” he told Sky Sports Racing. “He actually gets a bit depressed when he doesn't get on with his work, so for the last three weeks we've been winding him up and he's thriving on it.

“As we all know he's the most gorgeous looking horse and we're keen to go over the extended mile and a quarter again. It was a good, solid run on his first run over a mile and a quarter in the Eclipse. He's been there and done it now.

“We've all got Baaeed (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) to beat, we know that, but at least we've cut our teeth over the mile and a quarter, so we'll take that as an advantage.”

Undefeated at two with three group wins including the G1 National S. and G1 Dewhurst S., the bay added the G3 Craven S. at three and was second to stablemate Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G1 2000 Guineas in May. Shipped to Ireland, he was a 1 3/4-length victor of the May 21 G1 Irish 2000 Guineas prior to his Eclipse third.

ZAAKARA (GB) (Bobby's Kitten) represents a rare link-up between Kirsten Rausing and Sir Michael Stoute, but the Freemason Lodge handler was at one time responsible for this debutante's half-brother Zaaki (GB) (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}) before he went to Australia to win three Group 1s. Zaaki took until his 3-year-old campaign to get off the mark, and with seven of her nine rivals having the benefit of racecourse experience here a bold show from the homebred will be significant.

Last year's G1 Cazoo Derby and G1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth QIPCO S. hero Adayar (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) is slowly rounding back into form after a start in this year's King George was mooted earlier this week, according to trainer Charlie Appleby. The Classic winner ran fourth in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in October and dropped to fifth in his 3-year-old finale, the G1 QIPCO Champion S. in the middle of that month. He has not graced a racecourse since.

Appleby said, “Adayar is cantering away. I took him out of the King George a few days ago because I was having to force him and I didn't want to have to do that. He's a super horse and he's been fantastic for us and from what we have seen in the last 10 days, he's a different horse.

“He's cantering away but most importantly he looks great and has got his old spark back about him. He's having a buck and kick again and I haven't seen that for six weeks or more as he's basically just been a horse. Now we are starting to see the old Adayar. I'm not going to target a race. He'll tell me when he's ready, and hopefully that will be sooner rather than later.”

The current plan is to separate 2-year-old champion and G1 Irish 2000 Guineas victor Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) from his G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas conqueror Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) for their next starts. Third to Vadeni (Fr) (Churchill {Ire}) and Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) in last Saturday's G1 Coral-Eclipse S. at Sandown, Native Trail will be stepped down in trip from 10 furlongs.

Appleby said, “I thought Native Trail ran a solid race and he was just outstayed at that level. Two [furlongs] down, I thought William [Buick] was just having to look after him. He got 10 furlongs but he didn't run through the line at 10. He'll be competitive at that trip, but do I think we can reverse the form with the first and second? I'd be surprised.

“I'd like to come back to a mile and take him for the [G1] Prix Jacques le Marois while Coroebus will go to the Sussex S. [at Goodwood on July 27], all being well.”

Also in action last weekend was Hurricane Lane (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), the winner of the G1 Irish Derby and G1 Grand Prix de Paris before taking the G1 St Leger S. in September. The chestnut, third in the Arc, resumed with a third in the G2 Hardwicke S. at Royal Ascot, but was a puzzling eighth of nine in the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on July 3.

He said, “With Hurricane Lane, unfortunately the ground was too quick. They said it was soft, we knew it wouldn't be–it was good-to-soft in the morning, but just dried out all day to good-to-firm. William [Buick] wasn't hard on him, he said he wasn't even enjoying it going to the start.

“It's unfortunate as I didn't want to run him on good-to-firm ground twice this year, but that is what has happened. Most importantly he's come out of it fine. It's very simple now, we'll wait for soft ground and when that appears hopefully you'll see Hurricane Lane at his best again.”

Jane Chapple-Hyam has charge of the Gredley Family's homebred, who has a high bench to aim at Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum's Marbaan (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}), a relative of Ribchester (Ire) who was third in a decent maiden at Newbury last month.

GOLDEN LYRA (IRE) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) is the latest potential class act to emerge from William Haggas's Somerville Lodge Stables which has carried all before it in recent weeks. Carrying the renowned Sunderland Holding silks, the homebred whose dam is a full-sister to Sea the Moon (Ger) won by five lengths on her sole start at Newmarket in October and reappears in this Listed Greatwood British EBF S., or Abingdon S. as it is better known. She will be tested by some smart yardsticks including Ben and Sir Martyn Arbib's Listed Haras de Bouquetot Fillies' Trial runner-up Stay Alert (GB) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) and Kirsten Rausing's G3 Musidora S. third Ching Shih (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}).

With Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Modern Games (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) setting it up for him, Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) carried the heavy burden of hope into Saturday's G1 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh but with William Buick at his coolest the trinity of Guineas victories was completed with a degree of comfort. While the winning performance was not much more than workmanlike as the champion juvenile of 2021 grafted to deny the outsiders New Energy (Ire) (New Bay {GB}) and Imperial Fighter (Ire) (The Gurkha {Ire}), the take-out was the unprecedented achievement of Charlie Appleby collecting the three group 1 2000 Guineas of Europe in England, France and Ireland with three different colts. “Coming into today as calm and collected as you try to be, I knew what we were trying to achieve,” his trainer said. “Firstly trying to win a Guineas but, dare I say, trying to make history. That's what this horse has done for the whole team today.”

One for the record books! @godolphin wins its third 2000 Guineas ( ) in 2022 with three different horses. Coroebus, Modern Games and now Native Trail.

A remarkable achievement https://t.co/vkgKoGC8Sd

— TDN (@theTDN) May 21, 2022

Imperious when winning the G1 Vincent O'Brien National S. here in September, Native Trail was flying high by the time he hit the lids for the 2000 Guineas with Newmarket's G1 Dewhurst S. and G3 Craven S. also in the satchel. It can be argued now that all three of those contests have suffered from knocks to the form, but in the instant that he could only split Coroebus and Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) in the Apr. 30 Classic there was an air of deflation surrounding fans of the giant-striding bay. Connections refused to lose any faith and with the 2000 Guineas-Poulains-Irish 2000 Guineas masterplan laid out at Moulton Paddocks the wave of positivity seemed sufficient to carry Native Trail to glory here.

Any fears that Buick might be prisoner to tactics were certainly not troubling the man himself, whose career has taken another trajectory this season and who rode here with the calm of one of the all-time greats. Staying behind and on the rail, he kept the favourite in his own rhythm with main market rivals Ivy League (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Buckaroo (GB) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) to his outer and the 100-1 shot Malex (GB) (Kodiac {GB}) taking up front-running duties. There was a point three out when Ryan Moore on Ivy League looked as if he might be able to keep him pinned in, but Native Trail is an imposing prospect at the best of times and was coming out no matter what.

As TDN Rising Star Wexford Native (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) stretched on with Kevin Manning looking to escape, it was fellow TDN Rising Star New Energy who loomed as a genuine danger in the slipstream of Native Trail and despite the much-improved effort of the runner-up he found that giving a headstart to the winner was always a losing battle. “He is an exceptional horse and a joy to ride–he's uncomplicated and is there when you need him,” Buick said. “I knew from a fair way out I would be having to work my way out, but I had the horse to do it as he's got plenty of size and it was actually very straightforward. On faster ground, you might have seen a more explosive performance as this ground blunted his turn of foot a bit. He will get a mile and a quarter.”

Appleby was not ruling out another stand-off between the stable's Newmarket one-two in the G1 St James's Palace S. at Royal Ascot. “In all sports, you like to see the best two take each other on, whether it be tennis or football teams. At the moment these colts are the best around over a mile, so you'd like to see them have a crack at each other,” he said. “He lost nothing in defeat at Newmarket–Coroebus is a horse we thought highly of and had they be drawn together it could have been a closer contest. We'll never know that, but this horse doesn't have to prove himself any more. We all know that the St James's Palace is a fantastic race and the last chance for these three-year-olds over a mile to compete against each other.”

In his customary humble manner, Appleby was keen to share around the praise for the feat. “When I saw him cross the line today, I have to say it was a sigh of relief to say he's got the job done,” he added. “It's amazing–the team at Moulton Paddocks have done a fantastic job all winter and this horse has never missed a beat. I was confident in William, as he knows him so well and has rode him all of his racing career and plenty at home. He knows what this horse can do.”

Whether Native Trail lines up at Royal Ascot, New Energy who is like the winner a breeze-up purchase is likely to be there according to trainer Sheila Lavery. “We could always have dropped back to the Jersey, but we put him in the St James's Palace so why not live the dream,” she said. “I'm delighted for John [Lavery, owner and brother], who has put so much money into it and faith in me. Billy [Lee] gave him a beautiful ride and the only thing is my heart goes out to Robbie Colgan, who would have been on him except that he got injured off a horse at my place a couple of weeks ago. I was really looking forward to running him, he has run four times, won his maiden here first time but in the other races he hasn't been able to get a proper lead. In the Tetrarch he had to lead and we weren't quite sure exactly what we had. Billy thinks he's still going to improve from that, because he'll have learned from that.”

Andrew Balding said of Imperial Fighter, who was recording a career-best, “He probably, ideally, could have done with the ground even softer, but he is fairly versatile,” he commented. “I was thinking we could go a mile and a quarter in the [G3] Hampton Court, but it depends. If Ben [Coen] says a mile is his trip, he won't be going there.”

A triumph for the Breeze-Ups, Native Trail who was in hindsight a bargain 210,000gns purchase at the Tattersalls Craven Sale is the first runner for the unraced Juddmonte cast-off Needleleaf (GB) (Observatory) who was bought by the MAB Agency for only 60,000gns at the 2015 Tattersalls December Mares Sale. She is a full-sister to the G1 Haydock Sprint Cup heroine African Rose (GB) and the G3 Prix d'Aumale winner and G1 Prix Marcel Boussac runner-up Helleborine (GB), who was in turn responsible for the G2 Coventry S.-winning sire Calyx (GB) (Kingman {GB}). African Rose also became a stakes producer herself, throwing the talented G3 Princess Margaret S. winner Fair Eva (GB) (Frankel {GB}).

The second dam New Orchid (Quest For Fame {GB}), who was third in the G3 Lancashire Oaks, is a daughter of Musicanti (Nijinsky II) who also produced the 1999 Dewhurst hero and sire Distant Music from a mating with Observatory's sire Distant View. Musicanti is kin to the GI Jockey Club Gold Cup, GI Washington D.C. International and GI Suburban H.-winning champion Vanlandingham (Cox's Ridge) and to the dams of the GII Keeneland Turf Mile and G2 Prix Eugene Adam-winning sire Kirkwall (GB) (Selkirk) and to the GI American Oaks heroine Funny Moon (Malibu Moon). From the family of the GI Belmont S. hero and sire Temperence Hill, Needleleaf's 2-year-old filly Tranquil Rose (Fr) by Calyx's sire Kingman was bought by Godolphin for €950,000 at the Arqana Deauville August Sale.
