David Redvers, racing manager for Qatar Racing, has put forward Wednesday's Kensington Palace S. favourite Haziya (Ire) (Le Havre {Ire}) as being Sheikh Fahad's best chance of having a winner at Royal Ascot, but revealed the week will be defined by how G1 French 1000 Guineas heroine Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}) performs in the G1 Coronation S. on Friday.

Mangoustine carried former NBA star Tony Parker's black and white silks to victory in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches at ParisLongchamp last month and Redvers, who bought the filly as a yearling for just €46,000, is looking forward to seeing how she performs later in the week.

Along with Parker, the Mikel Delzangles-trained Mangoustine is owned by Monceaux Stud and Qatar Racing and, despite being available at odds as big as 10-1, she is expected to put up a bold show in what is shaping up to be one of the races of the week.

Redvers said, “It could be one of the races of the week. If the ground gets very quick, perhaps it will cut up a little, as there is a lot of talk that the Irish Guineas winner [Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB})] won't run if the ground is too fast. It's a hell of a contest.”

He added, “We bought Zotilla (Zamindar), the dam of Mangoustine, in partnership with Lordship Stud and Monceaux at the Arqana December Sale in 2014. She was a lovely mare, very athletic, and possibly a little bit hot temperment-wise, but she had the most amazing action.

“We then sold her because Henri [Bozo]'s model for Monceaux is a good one in that, if they [mares] are not producing winners, he just outs them. That's why Zotilla was sold.

“But this filly [Mangoustine] was an absolute beauty and we decided to buy her back up to a certain level because we had to buy out Lordship Stud who weren't interested in racing her.

“We bought out Lordship and Henri made a deal with [trainer] Frederic Rossi. Shortly after that, it was decided to bring in Tony Parker as a partner, because the filly was so nice and everyone is so keen for his operation to have a good horse. It all worked quite well.”

To say it has worked well is an understatement. Parker, one of the most successful basketball players of the modern era, brings a new fanbase to the sport and the decision to put him into Mangoustine has proved an inspired one.

Redvers said, “It's been great. Nobody can ever imagine the way these things will work out and we'd all be lying if we knew we were steering Tony into a Guineas winner. We knew she was a lovely filly with a proper pedigree and by a proper sire. She's a hugely exciting race filly and equally exciting broodmare prospect.”

Moungoustine was moved to Mikel Delzangles earlier this year after her previous trainer, Frederic Rossi, lost his licence. Delzangles, best known in Britain for his exploits with G1 2000 Guineas winner Makfi (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), endured a period in the wilderness but Mangoustine's Guineas win represented a new dawn for the yard.

Redvers said, “It's well documented that Frederic lost his licence and we needed to find another trainer. Luckily, everyone agreed on Mikel, as he had done an amazing job for us in the past so luckily it has all come full circle.

“By his own admission, he was in the doldrums for a little while, but it's fantastic to see him back. Not only is he a master trainer, he's also a complete gentleman, and we really felt for him during the period when his horses weren't terribly healthy.”

He added, “Whatever problem held them back before, they seem to be over that, and it's great to see Mikel back to his glory days. It's wonderful to see all of his horses running well again and we're looking forward to Mangoustine this week.”

Mangoustine may be the one that matters most but, according to Redvers, the Joseph O'Brien-trained Haziya is Qatar Racing's best chance of a winner this week.

He said, “We were looking at horses who had serious chances in some of the races and she stood out. I've got to say, she was a shrewd acquisition by Joseph in November [cost just €36,000 at Goffs] so hopefully she might win. She is probably our best chance of a winner for the entire week.”

On the rest of their team, Redvers said, “Emotion (GB) (Frankel {GB}) runs in the G2 Queen's Vase. She's a homebred who won by half the track at Kempton. She got found slightly wanting at Goodwood, where she didn't really handle the conditions, but Ascot will play to her strengths.

“We're partners in Silencer (Ire) (Kessaar {Ire}), who is a breeze-up horse we bought with James Harron. Hopefully he'll be able to give the Australians a bit of fun in the Windsor Castle. Friday is really our big day with Mangoustine. She's the one we're all really excited about.”

It has been a fascinating subplot to the Flat season, international sports people having their colours carried to big-race victories and, less than a month after former NBA star Tony Parker landed French 1,000 Guineas glory with Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}), the Atlético Madrid and French international striker Antoine Griezmann secured victory in the German equivalent with Txope (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}).

Trained by Philippe Decouz, Txope, which is the nickname Griezmann gave his wife, ran out a convincing winner for the World Cup-winning soccer player at Dusseldorf racecourse on Sunday.

Txope was knocked down to bloodstock agent Laurent Benoit, who revealed that Griezmann got huge enjoyment out of the victory, and shared how the seeds for Sunday's success were sown back in 2012.

Benoit said, “I need to try and make a long story short because I bought the dam of Txope, Power Of The Moon (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) as a foal back in 2012, so that is where the story began. We bought the mare on behalf of Gerry Ryan, the owner of Melbourne Cup winner Americain, and Puissance de Lune (Ire) (Shamardal), who was a very good horse in Australia.

“He asked me to buy him a filly to race back in 2012 and I was looking for something that would be sharp and something that had quality. I ended up buying Power Of The Moon. I was keen to buy a filly with Linamix (Fr) as the broodmare sire and was very happy to buy her off Norelands as well.”

Laurent Benoit | Tattersalls

He added, “Gerry had good fun with Power Of The Moon during her racing career but decided to sell her when it was over. She went to the breeding shed and I actually bought her privately twice afterwards so I have bought this mare three times! I bought her more recently on behalf of Thierry Gillier, who is a well-known fashion magnate, and thought she'd make a perfect fit for Siyouni (FR) being by Acclamation. She went four years in a row to Siyouni and they kept the first two fillies.”

Txope was the first filly out of Power Of The Moon to be offered up at public auction and Benoit, who at the time had just started recruiting stock for Griezmann, thought she'd make the perfect fit for his new client and went to €310,000 to secure the deal at Arqana in 2020.

He said, “It was around this time where I started working for Antoine, through the racehorse trainer Philippe Decouz, and we were looking for something sharp. To be honest, she was very easy to pick at the sales for them because she was a very good-looking filly.

“She was a bit on the small side but that came from the female line. Being by Siyouni, we thought it was a very safe bet and so far so good. She won he German 1000 Guineas in good style and it was a great result.”

Griezmann was part of the France team that played Croatia on Monday evening and, according to Benoit, has yet been able to find the time to celebrate the success of Txope due to a jam-packed schedule.

He said, “Antoine has been very busy and is playing tonight [Monday] for France so he hasn't had much time to celebrate the win but he watched the race live of course. He was very happy and it's a passion he shares with his father Alain.

“It is great for the game to have people like Antoine involved, especially when they have some big successes. I mean, we cannot hope for much more than that.”

On future plans, Benoit added, “Antoine has a couple of mares already and will be happy to keep a couple of nice ones to breed from. He has 12 horses in training and hopefully there are some exciting 2-year-olds coming along for him.

“Txope has a full-brother going to the sales in August. Power Of The Moon also has a Hello Youmzain (Fr) filly foal at foot and is foal to Palace Pier (GB). And, not only that, just to make the link, Puissance de Lune translates to Power Of The Moon, so it's a nice story to tell.”

It is 15 years since Authorized (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) streaked down the hill at Epsom to give Frankie Dettori his first win in the Derby. For the colt's owners Imad Al Sagar and Saleh Al Homaizi it was also a first Derby victory, but it was their second Classic winner in as many years as Araafa (Ire) (Mull Of Kintyre {Ire})) had landed the previous season's Irish 2,000 Guineas before going on to win the St James's Palace S.

Such success at the highest level for the duo who had previously been champion owners in their native Kuwait then kindled an interest in breeding which led to the purchase of two farms on the outskirts of Newmarket. Together they would become known as Blue Diamond Stud.

Now solely under the ownership of Imad Al Sagar, the stud is a thriving concern, with 40 broodmares in its paddocks and more than 20 horses in training in Britain, predominantly homebreds, with John and Thady Gosden, Roger Varian, Clive Cox, Roger Charlton, Archie Watson, and Andrew Balding. The fruits of the Blue Diamond team's labours, in the paddocks and at the sales grounds over the years, are being enjoyed especially this season, most notably in the prospect of another Classic contender, this time in the Oaks.

Nashwa (GB), a daughter of Frankel (GB) and the former Blue Diamond Stud colour-bearer Princess Loulou (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), trained by John and Thady Gosden, was this week confirmed as being on course for Epsom. This followed some deliberation between remaining in England or heading to France for the shorter option of the Prix de Diane.

“Winning the Derby was incredibly special,” says Al Sagar. “It was a dream come true and it is a very exciting time now, with history repeating itself in a way, to be able to go to Epsom with another Classic contender.”

The breeder admits that choosing between Epsom and Chantilly was not easy, particularly as Nashwa's own stable contains the current Oaks favourite Emily Upjohn (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}). But Nashwa, whose dam, purchased as a yearling by Tony Nerses, won a 10-furlong Listed contest in testing conditions and was runner-up in the G1 Prix Jean Romanet, has given Al Sagar cause for optimism. Her most recent win, and her second of the year, came over 10 furlongs in the Listed Haras de Bouquetot Fillies' Trial at Newbury, and he points to another facet of the filly which may help her in the Oaks.

He says, “She is improving and the progress she has made from two to three is enormous. Especially in the the last two months she has really flourished. She has become a lot stronger physically and mentally.

“We agreed to have an open mind; it was a difficult decision. Nashwa has not yet run over a mile and a half. The filly has abundant speed as she showed over a mile at Haydock. But pedigree-wise, I know the family, and Frankel throws horses who compete over all kinds of distances. She is the type of filly who relaxes very well. She has a great temperament and she switches off in her races.”

Al Sagar adds, “We are not sure, of course. But she's laidback and also she has a very good turn of foot, so these things I think will help her to get a mile and a half.

“It is a nice problem to have. I hope all our problems are like this.”

Thus far it has been a season with problems mostly far from his mind. In some ways, Al Sagar has already celebrated a Classic winner, even if it was at a slight remove. Back in 2019 at Arqana he bought Zotilla (Ire) from Ecurie des Monceaux for €75,000. Her Dark Angel (Ire) filly foal born earlier that year was subsequently retained by Monceaux and its partners after failing to reach her reserve at the yearling sales, and last Sunday, as Mangoustine (Fr), she won the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches.

“I bought Mangoustine's dam Zotilla and Manasarova, the dam of Sicilian Defense (GB) on the same day and then both of them had runners in the French Guineas,” he notes. “Sicilian Defense actually ran a very good race when she was short of room.”

Blue Diamond Stud is also home to the well-related Tisa River (Ire) (Equiano {Fr}), purchased in 2020 when her family had come to life through her consecutive Breeders' Cup-winning half-siblings Iridessa (Ire) (Ruler Of The World {Ire}) and Order Of Australia (Ire) (Australia {GB}). The pedigree was subsequently enhanced by another sibling, Santa Barbara (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), the winner last season of the GI Belmont Oaks and GI Beverly D S.

Tisa River is currently in foal to Frankel, as is Princess Loulou, carrying a full-sibling to Nashwa. Meanwhile Zotilla is in foal to Dubawi (Ire) with a Too Darn Hot (GB) filly foal at foot.

Queen of the paddocks, however, is Pearling (Storm Cat), the sister to Giant's Causeway and Coolmore blue hen You'resothrilling. She gave Blue Diamond Stud its first homebred Group 1 winner when her son Decorated Knight (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) won the Jebel Hatta at Meydan and then followed up with victories in the Tattersalls Gold Cup and Irish Champion S. for Roger Charlton during a glorious 2017 season.

Decorated Knight, a close relative to the high-achieving Classic family of Gleneagles (Ire), Marvellous (Ire) and Happily (Ire), is now a resident of the Irish National Stud and has been well supported by his co-owner/breeder.

Al Sagar may yet also have an interest of sorts in this year's Derby field, as still engaged at this stage is Masekela (Ire), whom he pinhooked as a foal after he had admired Masekela's sire El Kabeir at Yeomanstown Stud. The pinhook project just about broke even, but more important was the vindication in Al Sagar's judgement when Masekela won on debut, finished runner-up in the G2 Superlative S.–beaten a short-head by Native Trail (GB), no less–and then subsequently landed the Listed Denford S. for Andrew Balding and owners Mick and Janice Mariscotti.

Al Sagar's main focus, however, is on his burgeoning breeding operation. At the end of 2018 he and Al Homaizi went their separate ways, with much of the stock being offered at auction to dissolve their partnership. Al Sagar bought back a number of the mares, including Pearling, and earlier this year he announced a major restructuring of the Blue Diamond Stud team. Lord Grimthorpe was appointed as racing manager, with Ted Voute becoming chief executive officer, Gerry Meehan announced as yearling manager and Nancy Sexton as bloodstock and media advisor.

“I think Blue Diamond deserved the time and investment and I decided that restructuring was very important for the future of the stud,” he says. “I am very much comfortable with my team and we have started to see very positive results on the ground which I hope will help us to achieve our future goals.”

Al Sagar visits the Newmarket farms, spread across 330 acres, as often as he can from his home in Kuwait, and he likes to be hands-on when it comes to matings.

“I very much enjoy it, especially over the last six or seven years,” he says. “When we first started breeding horses in 2007 we made many mistakes, but I am happy we did it because we learned a lot from it and now we can see things are moving forward with the progeny. With breeding you don't know what you will get, so now our strategy is to upgrade the quality of mares. Broodmares are the foundation for any farm and our strategy is to improve the quality and to have a wide spectrum of bloodlines, such as Scat Daddy, what is remaining of the Roberto line, Blushing Groom line. It is these things that we are focusing on to improve our progeny.”

The owner took some by surprise when announcing Hollie Doyle as his retained jockey in 2020. She remains in that position, with Martin Dwyer as second jockey. The arrangement has already been a successful one, with Doyle having ridden not just Nashwa, but also Nazanin (GB), Majestic Noor (GB) and Extra Elusive (GB) to stakes victories in the green and silver silks of Blue Diamond Stud.

“Things have changed,” says Al Sagar on the topic of retaining a woman as principal rider. “It wasn't an easy decision, but in my opinion Hollie ticks all the boxes as a jockey. I do believe that the gender shouldn't be an obstacle to being a good jockey. Hollie has the brain, has the strength, has the courage, and this is what you need in a jockey. This is now the third year and we are extremely happy.”

Should Doyle become the first woman to ride a British Classic winner when she partners Nashwa in the Oaks, it would doubtless be a moment in which horseracing makes the front pages of the national newspapers for all the right reasons. It would not only be a well deserved success for one of the outstanding jockeys of her generation, but also for the man who has invested passion and thought along with considerable financial reserves into breeding a filly worthy of her place in the field.

It was a relatively quiet week in the U.S. as everyone drew breath between Derby and Preakness, but the action came thick and fast in Europe. Here's what grabbed our attention over the last seven days.

From San Antonio to Longchamp…

Tony Parker, former San Antonio Spurs icon, was in the headlines Sunday as part-owner of Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}), winner of the G1 Emirates Poule d'Essai des Pouliches. Parker, who joins a growing list of sports stars involved in horse ownership in France, won four NBA championships (2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014) with the Spurs. His number nine jersey was also retired.

Never-Ending Success…

We the People is the second consecutive son of Constitution to win the GII Peter Pan S., following Promise Keeper last year. He's also bred on the same cross as the stallion's best son, Tiz the Law, whose quartet of Grade I wins includes the Belmont S. Although it should be noted that was the year it was run at 1 1/8 miles as the first leg of the Triple Crown in 2020.

2022, No More Drama…

It was reported last week, by the KHRC, that the post-race tests for banned substances in the GI Kentucky Derby and GI Longines Kentucky Oaks horses were cleared. Onwards and upwards.

The World's Greatest?…

Trainer William Haggas didn't quite go that far, after Baaeed (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire})'s seventh win on the spin, but he also didn't really dismiss it. “I would not go as far as to say he is the best horse in the world–that is the sort of thing others might say–but he has done very well.” Either way, it's worth watching his latest romp in the G1 Al Shaqab Lockinge S. on repeat. Enjoy.

Baaeed. Sit back and watch on repeat. pic.twitter.com/vtqTghttoJ

— TDN (@theTDN) May 14, 2022

All That Glitters Is Gold For Brant…

She may have cost €3-million when purchased by Michel Zerolo's Oceanic Bloodstock at Arqana in December, and Rougir (Fr) (Territories {Ire}) will have far bigger goals than Saturday's GIII Beaugay S. at Belmont, but she's off to a good start for Chad Brown and new owners Peter Brant and Michael Tabor. Brant is on a terrific run at the moment, which is great to see for such a staunch supporter of the game.

Can we have too much of a good thing? When it comes to racing in the spring the answer is almost certainly not, but the rapidity with which all the decent action takes place can make it difficult to take it all in. For example, in the last 11 days we have had three Derby favourites. First the horse who had held that honour all winter, Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), who was then replaced by his stable-mate Stone Age (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), all the rage after his Derby Trial victory at Leopardstown following the defection of Luxembourg from Epsom. But Stone Age held his position for only four days before he was pipped by the Dante S. winner Desert Crown (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}), about whom the dogs had apparently been howling that Sir Michael Stoute was on his way to claim the Derby for a sixth time, 41 years after Shergar (Ire) galloped his way into the history books.

By Derby day itself, Piz Badile (Ire) (Ulysses {Ire}) will almost certainly shorten merely for the fact that Frankie Dettori has been booked to ride him, but there is plenty to suggest that he would not be unworthy of that support. We'll see.

In the meantime, thoughts have turned to the Prix du Jockey Club, a great stopgap between the Guineas and Derby since its distance was shortened to 2,100m back in 2005. On Sunday, Charlie Appleby said of his Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner Modern Games (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), “I always had it in the back of my mind that he might be a French Derby horse.” With that colt having become the first British-trained winner of the race for 17 years, it would be no surprise to see him attempt to emulate the last one, Shamardal, by snaring a French Classic double. It would also help to alleviate one problem faced by Appleby in attempting to keep Modern Games, Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) apart. But let's face it, as problems go, it's high on the first-world list.

Jean-Claude Rouget has also been waxing lyrical about the Prix des Suresnes winner Al Hakeem (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}), drawing flattering comparisons to Sottsass (Ire), and seemingly not just for the very similar pattern of his breeding. Then there is the good-looking Lassaut (Fr), from the first crop of Jockey Club winner Almanzor (Fr), whose running-on fifth in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains can be regarded as a decent trial for June 5.

It would also be folly to overlook the claims of G2 Prix Greffulhe winner Onesto (Ire), the colt by Frankel (GB) who returned to Europe after being an unlikely candidate for a Florida breeze-up sale. But he breezed with ease, earning himself a $535,000 price tag and a place in Fabrice Chappet's Chantilly stable. We'll be hearing more about Onesto later this week in TDN, but a viewing of him during Chappet's second lot on Monday morning was enough to leave a strong impression that he is a horse with a perfect temperament for the big day.

Mosse Pockets His Plans

The indefatigable Gerald Mosse, impeccably bedecked in his trademark white gloves and a silver brooch of two horses' head at the collar of his silks, rode his 15th French Classic winner at Longchamp on Sunday. It was his first since winning the Prix du Jockey Club on Reliable Man (GB) in 2011.

Of his latest, Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}), he said, “She really kicked strongly and fought all the way to the line. She kept something in the pocket for the end.”

Mangoustine was not the only one. The 55-year-old jockey has already passed the necessary exams to start a secondary career as a trainer but, understandably after the elation of his second win in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches following Zalaiyka (Fr) (Royal Academy) 24 years ago, he said thoughts of retirement are far from his mind.

“For now I'll keep my training licence in my pocket,” added Mosse.

Born To Run

Somewhat unusually, four of the top five lots at last year's Arqana Breeding Stock Sale have remained in training this season, and three of them have enjoyed a real purple patch of late.

On Saturday, Rougir (Fr) (Territories {Ire}), the sale-topper at €3 million, made a triumphant comeback in her new home country of America, where she was the impressive victrix of the GIII Beaugay S. for Peter Brant, Michael Tabor and trainer Chad Brown.

Brant and Brown also teamed up with Speak Of The Devil (Fr) Wootton Bassett {GB}), a €1.95 million purchase, to win the GII Longines Churchill Distaff S. on the Kentucky Derby undercard. Meanwhile Grand Glory (GB) (Olympic Glory {Ire}), now six, has remained in training in France with Gianluca Bietolini for her new owner Haras de Hus, and she has added the Listed Prix Zarkava and G3 Prix Allez France to her tally of wins this season.

The World's Gone Mad

It would be churlish to present a round-up of the action of the past week and not mention the mighty Stradivarius (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), who won his third G2 Yorkshire Cup. It seems extraordinary that the horse who last week set a new European record for the number of Group wins (18) should have an invisible question mark hanging over him with regard to his future stud career.

Too small and the wrong colour for a National Hunt stallion, some say, but frankly that option shouldn't even be in the reckoning. Wouldn't it be refreshing if a son of one of the best horses most of us have ever seen, from a Wildenstein dynasty deep with talent, who has proved his own abundant ability and soundness year after year, be afforded the respect he deserves by Flat breeders. After all, who among us would not love to race a horse such as this?

Too much to ask? Let's hope not.

Titannia Upholds Family Honour

Two years ago we noted the Danish Classic double of Tassmania (Den), the filly whose existence is largely owing to her dam Transsylvania (Den) (Le Havre {Ire}) having won a nomination to Sir Percy (GB) as part of her prize for landing the Listed Lanwades Stud S. in Norway in 2015.

Transsylvania's owner/breeders Dean and Mette Olsen duly bred her to Sir Percy, resulting in victory in the Danish 1000 Guineas and 2000 Guineas for her daughter Tassmania. Now the family is at it again.

Transsylvania's current 3-year-old Titannia (Den), by Appel Au Maitre (Fr), won the Danish 1000 Guineas on May 7 and is now poised to attempt to emulate her half-sister by taking on the colts. The filly, who was retained by the Olsens, also provided Lars Kelp with his first Classic victory since returning to the training ranks with just five horses under his care.

Around 200 horses formerly trained by Frederic, Cedric and Charley Rossi will need to be relocated from their Calas training stable in Marseille after their indictment Thursday, when a judge in Aix-en-Provence banned the three from any participation or presence in racing and training for the duration of the indictment. The Jour de Galop reports in their Saturday edition that some decisions on the futures of those horses have already been made.

The three Rossis, along with a veterinarian, a stable manager, and Charley's wife Jessica Marcialis, a jockey, were brought in after a two-month investigation into possible race-fixing and doping in their operation, based at the Calas training centre in Marseille, France.

The most famous and successful in question is Sealiway (Fr) (Galiway {GB}), the winner of the G1 QIPCO Champion S. who may be pointed to the Saudi Cup next, and will go to an as-yet-to-be determined trainer in Chantilly, Kamel Chehboub told the JDG. Skazino (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}), second in the G1 Prix Royal Oak, will stay in Marseille, but will be shifted to trainer Richard Chotard, the JDG reports. They quote Jean-Claude Seroul as saying his three fillies with Frederic Rossi are on their way to Jerome Reynier. Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}) the winner of the G3 Prix Miesque for Franco-American basketball star Tony Parker, will head to Mikel Delzangles at Chantilly, the JDG reports. Miguel Castro Megias has five horses with Charley Rossi, all of which will go to Chantilly at the end of the week, also to an undetermined trainer, the paper says, while they report that Michel Delaunay, who has 10 horses with Charley Rossi, has not yet made a decision on where his horses will go.

Ten horses were seized during the raid, and the JDG asked the Aix-en-Provence court what might happen to them, and was told that their owners may request their return from the investigating judge in the case.

Tuesday's Chantilly card has a pair of pattern races, with the seven-furlong G3 Prix Miesque acting as one of the last staging posts for 2-year-old fillies with Classic aspirations. Godolphin's Fleur D'Iris (GB) (Shamardal) sets the standard, having beaten Zellie (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) in the G3 Prix d'Aumale at ParisLongchamp Sept. 9 only to finish last behind that stablemate on ground that was too testing in the Oct. 3 G1 Prix Marcel Boussac back there. “Everything went wrong for Fleur d'Iris in the Prix Marcel Boussac, when she raced too freely on the heavy ground,” Godolphin's Lisa-Jane Graffard said. “Hopefully, conditions will be more to her liking at Chantilly.”

Infinity Nine Horses and Ecurie des Monceaux's unbeaten Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}) is up in class for the Frederic Rossi stable after her latest outing in the Sept. 23 Listed Criterium de Lyon over a mile, while White Birch Farm's acquisition Gran Sabana (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) adds intrigue coming off a debut win for the Brandts also over a mile here Sept. 24.
