“John Gosden had an in-depth discussion with the boss, Mrs. Thompson, and following that, it was decided that, sadly, she would miss the 1000 Guineas,” Richardson said on Sunday.

“John Gosden feels she wasn't really ready for the race and when you receive that advice from a trainer such as John, you follow it and now we'll look to the [G1] Coronation S. at Royal Ascot [on June 17] as part of her programme.

“It is disappointing for all concerned, but we must heed their advice. Royal Ascot is a favoured meeting of the Thompsons and we've had success there previously, it's the start of the year and we've still got lots of opportunities going forward.”

Also out of the 1000 Guineas is Saeed Al Tayer's Group 2 heroine Zain Claudette (Ire) (No Nay Never). A winner at second asking, the chestnut ran out a narrow victress of the G3 Princess Margaret S. at Royal Ascot last June. Sent to York for her next outing in August, she stalked and pounced to win the G2 Lowther S. by a measured length, prior to an unplaced run in the wake of likely Guineas favourite Tenebrism (Caravaggio) in the G1 Cheveley Park S. at Newmarket.

“We've brought her back to training and she is very well, she had some very good races last year,” said trainer Ismail Mohammed. “She is not going to the Guineas, we've pulled her out. We will have so many options for her, so we will see where to go with her.

“It could be Royal Ascot, there are many races for her. I want to find at least one good race for her over seven furlongs before we go for a mile.”

Trainer Ismail Mohammed said, “She is doing well and we will run her in the trial at Newmarket over seven furlongs. I am happy with how she is working and I think she will handle seven furlongs. We have to step her up to seven before we decide to go over a mile.”

Mohammed could also have a runner on Dubai World Cup night, with Good Effort (Ire) (Shamardal) possible for the G1 Golden Shaheen after finishing second in the G3 Riyadh Dirt Sprint on Saudi Cup Day Feb. 26. The Betway All-Weather Championship Sprint on Apr. 15 is also under consideration for the 7-year-old.

“He ran very well [in Saudi],” said Mohammed. “We challenged the winner [Dancing Prince], but he ran away from us. He's a good horse.

“He came back home safe and we have the dirt sprint on Dubai World Cup night in our mind. We have entered him and we are waiting to hear. There is also the all-weather race in the UK, three weeks after the World Cup. We will see how it goes. He qualified for the final by winning a listed at Lingfield.”

In what looked like a competitive contest, the well-supported 11/8 favorite raced at the head of affairs alongside Exalted Angel before settling proceedings in a matter of strides swinging off the home turn.

Good Effort was clear entering the final furlong and stayed on strongly to score by two and a quarter lengths from the 2019 winner Judicial. Soldier's Minute was a short-head further back in third in a blanket finish for the places.

This was the fourth success in as many starts at Lingfield Park for Good Effort, who also captured the Listed Betway Kachy Stakes in 2020.

Ismail Mohammed's assistant trainer Jose Santos said: “Good Effort is a horse we have always believed is the best All-Weather sprinter in the UK.

“He is a real natural sprinter and hopefully connections decide to keep him here for the All-Weather Championships.

“He doesn't have that much mileage for a six-year-old and I think he still has plenty to offer.”

Winning rider Jim Crowley said: “Good Effort is a handy horse, isn't he?

“He gets a bit lonely in front having killed the race off on the bend. I had to keep him up to his work because Jose [Santos, assistant trainer] said to me that he pulled up in Dubai when Frankie rode him and just got caught.

“He is one of those horses who wins his race at halfway. He is very fast and whether it's five or six furlongs, he has enough boot for both. I remember riding him work in Dubai and being impressed with him that day.

“He has won in France and run well in Dubai, and he didn't run too badly in Belmont last time. It just didn't quite work out for him because they went slow out there, which is unusual for an American sprint.

“It's just a question of whether he stays here for the All-Weather Championships or goes on his travels again, but it will take a quick one to beat him around here.”

The 5-year-old gelding, who is owned by Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, was second to the star stayer Trueshan (Fr) (Planteur {Ire}) in the July 27 Goodwood Cup prior to finishing seventh in the Ebor H. Earlier in the season, he had hit the board in Meydan's G2 Dubai Gold Cup.

“To some extent it was good that it was picked up so early but again really disappointing for the connections,” said Racing Victoria's International General Manager Paul Bloodworth. “I mean, six days before the race, it's really heartbreaking for them.

“The good news is that it is not a serious injury, if you like, for the horse's overall welfare. It just needs time to recover and if they chose to, the horse could race again later in the year.”

Campaigned solely at this trip so far, Zain Claudette was a neck runner-up on debut to the subsequent G2 Prix Robert Papin third Hellomydarlin (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}) at Goodwood June 11 before opening her account at Newmarket June 25 and nosing out Desert Dreamer at Ascot. Granted an ideal lead under cover from Outside World (GB) (Iffraaj (GB) and Nymphadora (GB) (No Nay Never) here, the chestnut showed more early pace than in the Princess Margaret and that ultimately told as Sandrine was always struggling to pick up her rivals on this flat, fast terrain. Ismail Mohammed is eyeing the obvious next step. “The [G1] Cheveley Park S. [at Newmarket Sept. 25] will be next,” he said. “She has won three times now over six furlongs, but I don't think she is only a sprinter. I asked the jockey if she could stay further and he said 'no problem', so next year, we will go for the 1000 Guineas.”

Anna Lisa Balding said of Sandrine, “She slightly stumbled coming out of the stalls, but you can't take anything away from the winner who has done it well. We'll stick to Plan A and head to the Cheveley Park next. The only reason we came here with the penalty was because we felt it was just too long between races, we had to do something. She'll have a little bit of a freshen up now. David [Probert] said she ran really well and that it was just the penalty that beat her. She was also having to come widest of all. She's done little wrong, is a lovely filly and while it is always sad when you lose an unbeaten record, they have to be beaten sometimes.”

While Mohammed claimed to be unaware that the horses were receiving treatments at inappropriate times, he pled guilty and had a previously clear record in regards to shockwave therapy.

Veterinarian Dr. Fred Van Der Linde testified that the medical records presented to the ERA Stewards for the horses receiving shockwave therapy was incorrect. He said the dates entered were for billing purposes and that he had not kept record of the dates of actual treatment. In the absence of any additional records, Emirates Racing Authority stewards relied upon the records provided as treatment dates. Dr. Van Der Linde was disqualified for six months, commencing immediately and expiring on Dec. 28.
