After 130 lots went through the virtual ring, including stallion nominations, mornings on the gallops, paintings, and memberships to various syndicates, over £70,000 was raised in the Racing For A Reason Online Charity Auction, announced ThoroughBid on Monday.

The sales topper was the donation from Capital Stud consisting of a nomination to NH sire Triple Threat (Fr), which sold to Richie Cleary for £3,750, but nominations to Dawn Approach (Ire) (£3,000); Ocovango (GB) (£2,750); Shaman (Ire) (£2,500); and Inns Of Court (Ire) (£2,250) saw lively bidding as well. A two-year membership to the Byerley Indians Racing Syndicate sold for £1,700 while a yard visit to Willie Mullins proved most popular with a £700 bid.

“I never imagined, when starting up Racing For A Reason, that it would ever grow to this scale. To see the online auction raise over £70,000 was staggering and I can't thank everyone enough for their involvement,” said Simon Besanson, the auction orchestrator. “It's fantastic to be able to donate over £35,000 to both the Irish Cancer Society and the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, and very well-deserved.”

The Racing for a Reason online charity auction, hosted by ThoroughBid, will run from Jan. 1-7 starting 9 a.m. that first day, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated equally between the Irish Cancer Society and the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.

On offer are yard visits with some of the top racing operations in the UK and Ireland, stallion nominations to the likes of Inns of Court (Ire) and Dawn Approach (Ire), and membership to the Byerley Indians Syndicate. The last was created to increase awareness of the disappearance of two of the three Male Trial lines–Byerley Turk and Godolphin Arabian.

Stallion nominations including Flat and National Hunt sires and of the 37 trainers who donated a yard visit, notable additions include Nicky Henderson, Henry de Bromhead, and Lucinda Russell, among others.

A total of 123 lots will go up for bidding and the collection can be found here. Buyers must have a registered account with Thoroughbid if they wish to partake.

“We cannot thank ThoroughBid enough for hosting the Racing For A Reason online charity auction. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to those who so generously donated lots for the auction itself,” said Sinead Gillespie, the National Fundraising Lead for the Irish Cancer Society. “The Irish Cancer Society receives only 5% of its funding from the Government, so it's because of fundraising efforts like the Racing For A Reason online charity auction, that we can provide free services and supports, to ensure nobody in Ireland faces cancer alone.”

Gillespie added: “Your generosity provides free information, vital services like our Freephone Support Line 1800 200 700, patient travel, Night Nursing and funds ground-breaking cancer research to support people affected by cancer across the country. On behalf of those who benefit from this support, thank you.”

Tally Ho Stud's first-crop sire Inns Of Court (Ire) had an impressive 21 winners on the board prior to Monday's Listed Ballyhane Blenheim S. and one of them Megarry (Ire) became his first black-type winner in that six-furlong Fairyhouse contest. Off the mark at the fourth attempt over this trip at The Curragh last month, the Gavin Cromwell-trained €25,000 Goffs Sportsman's graduate had finished runner-up to another of the sire's progeny in the re-opposing Lia Fail (Ire) in a Navan conditions race Sept. 2.

Away smartly from the widest draw, the 9-1 shot was kept handy by Gary Carroll and mastered the 6-5 favourite Mansa Musa (Ire) (Ten Sovereigns {Ire}) a furlong out en route to a convincing 2 1/4-length success with Lia Fail another 1 1/4 lengths behind in third making it a one-three for the impactful son of Invincible Spirit (Ire).

“He's only coming, this lad,” Carroll said. “Inns Of Court didn't win until the very back-end himself. Every run he's been improving and he was very professional there today. I didn't make enough use of him the last day, I should have won. It was a good run, he's very honest and hopefully he'll step forward again. He'll get seven anyway, I'm not sure about a mile as he's not a slow horse.”

The eighth China Horse Owners Alliance (CHOA) conference was held on Aug. 31 at Yulong International Hotel. Yulong owner Zhang Yuesheng was re-elected as Chairman of CHOA.

“This year's prize money is 20 million RMB/$2.7 million and next year's is 30 million RMB/$4.1 million,” Yueshang said. “That means we will have completed the three-year plan for the Chinese-bred Thoroughbred series regular races. However, we will strive towards a prize money of 40 million RMB/$5.5 million next year and plan to introduce graded races. This is also the reason why CHOA has launched the 'Three-Year Chinese-bred Thoroughbred Series Regular Races', step by step promoting the growth in the number of domestic horses.”

Via a pre-recorded video, Tom Reilly, CEO of Thoroughbred Breeders Australia, announced the TBA's online horse course targeting Chinese horse lovers. The course is free and in Chinese.

Irish-bred runners claimed two out of seven races on Chinese mainland's richest raceday, Saturday Sept. 1. Yin Ling Shi Shang (Ire) (Inns of Court {Ire}) won his debut in the Coolmore Cup S. and Baton Rouge (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) earned his fourth win from five starts in the Tattersalls Cup S. He is a full brother to European highweight and dual Group 1 winner Magician (Ire), who was recently purchased by Chinese interests and will continue his stallion career in China next year.

CLASSICAL SONG (IRE) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) was a big deal at the Arqana May Breeze Up as the fourth highest-priced filly and now starts out in the colours of Doreen Tabor for this maiden won in recent times by Amazing Maria (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) and Rhododendron (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Ralph Beckett has charge of the half-sister to the triple Group 1 winner Dylan Mouth (Ire) (Dylan Thomas {Ire}), whose peers include Michael Blencowe's similarly-unraced Imperial Express (Ire) (Inns Of Court {Ire}), an Andrew Balding-trained half-sister to the G1 Phoenix S.-winning sire Ebro River (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}).

15.10 Doncaster, Mdn, £6,800, 2yo, 6f 2yT
POINT GIVEN (IRE) (Blue Point {Ire}) has the pedigree to be a smart juvenile, being a half-brother to the G1 Vincent O'Brien National S. and G2 Vintage S. winner Toormore (Ire) (Arakan) and the G2 Champagne S. and G2 Superlative S. scorer Estidhkaar (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}). Out relatively early for one of Sir Michael Stoute, Saeed Suhail's 270,000gns Book 1 purchase meets fellow newcomer Speeding Bullet (Ire) (Inns Of Court {Ire}), King Power Racing's half-brother to the G2 Flying Childers S. winner Caturra (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) who hails from the Richard Hannon stable.

16.55 Doncaster, Novice, £8,000, 3yo/up, 6f 2yT
PRIMEVAL (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) is an intriguing Juddmonte debutante for the Harry and Roger Charlton stable, being the 10th foal out of the G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Passage Of Time (GB) (Dansili {GB}). That makes her a half-sister to the accomplished multiple group-winning sire on the up Time Test (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and the dual Group 3 winner Tempus (GB) (Kingman {GB}), so while this is a touch late to be making her racecourse bow she has the raw material to make a splash if she shows ability here.

Kodiac (GB) (Danehill) leads the seven-strong roster at Tally-Ho Stud at an unchanged fee of €65,000 in 2022. Responsible for 13 black-type winners in 2021, the 20-year-old's progeny enjoyed Group 1 success with G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud hero El Bodegon (Ire) and G1 Commonwealth Cup heroine Campanelle (Ire). Also among his group winners this term are Cloudy Dawn (Ire), American Bridge (GB), Bear Story (Ire), Glounthaune (Ire) and Fast Attack (Ire).

Priced at €50,000, Mehmas (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), who was the Champion First-Season Sire in Europe in 2022, celebrated 11 black-type winners and is firmly on top of the European Second-Season Sire list. The sire of his second overall Group 1 winner in 2021 GI Del Mar Oaks heroine Going Global (Ire), he stood for €25,000 this year. Four of his seven 2021 group winners were from his second crop of juveniles headed by dual Group 2 winner Lusail (Ire), G2 Flying Childers S. victor Caturra (Ire), and G2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte heroine Malavath (Ire), who also ran second in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Acklam Express (Ire) and Minzaal (Ire), from his first crop, were also Group 1 placed in Dubai and in the G1 British Champions Sprint S., respectively.

Previously announced as a new addition to the roster, Group 1 winner Starman (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}) will command €17,500. The G1 July Cup hero also placed in the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest and G1 Sprint Cup.

A pair of Tally-Ho stallions will have their first crop of 3-year-olds in 2022 in Cotai Glory (GB) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) at €8,500 and Galileo Gold (GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}) at €7,000.
Completing the roster are the duo of Inns of Court (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Kessaar (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), who will both stand for €5,000. Successful four times at group level and dual Group 1 placed, Inns of Court's first foals are selling at the breeding stock sales beginning this month.
