Horse of the Year honors were posthumously awarded to Nobody Listens (Conveyance), whose five wins from eight 2023 starts included the GIII Turf Monster S. at Parx. The Indiana-bred gelding, who tragically died in a trailer accident the day after his Turf Monster win, was also named the state's champion older bred horse.

Other champions honored Saturday include: 2-Year-Old Sired Filly: The Kid Pataky (Pataky Kid); Champion 2-Year-Old Bred Filly: Ice Cold (Mitole); Champion 2-Year-Old Sired Colt: Cringe (Taprize); Champion 2-Year-Old Bred Colt: Molly's Town (Mo Town); Champion 3-Year-Old Sired Filly: Itzforever (Forever d'Oro); Champion 3-Year-Old Bred Filly: Corningstone (Kantharos); Champion 3-Year-Old Sired Colt: Doubledogjustice (Lantana Mob); Champion 3-Year-Old Bred Colt: King Ice (Keen Ice); Champion Older Sired Mare: Quick And Easy (What Now); Champion Older Bred Mare: Louder Than Words (Mr Speaker); Champion Older Sired Horse: Mr. Chaos (Turbo Compressor).

Honored with Indiana Breed Development Awards were: Broodmare of the Year: Express Run; Stallion of the Year: Forever d'Oro; and Stallion Owner of the Year: Justice Farms.

Kim Hammond was honored with the Hall of Distinction Award and Representative Bob Cherry was presented with the President's Award.

There are a total of 72 seasons from 67 stallions available in the auction. The auction includes stallions standing in Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, Arkansas, Ohio, and California.

Horseshoe Indianapolis annually hosts two stakes races restricted to 3-year-old horses sired by eligible stallions from the ITOBA Stallion Season Auction. These two races, one for males and one for females, have a purse of $100,000 each.

The proceeds from this auction supports funding for scholarships, aftercare programs, and other initiatives. A percentage of proceeds from this auction is also paid back to the stallion farms.

The Live Yearling sale will be held on Oct. 14 at the Horseshoe Indianapolis Receiving Barn at 1:00 p.m. E.T. This sale will feature up to 80 Indiana bred, Indiana sired and out-of-state yearlings. The Paddock sale will take place directly after and only feature horses of racing age.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 326 deadly barn fires occurred during the period 2013-2017. In 2022 a devastating fire hurt the Indiana Thoroughbred breeding industry when one Indiana farm burned to the ground.

In an effort to turn a tragedy into a positive, the ITA will be sharing what has been learned in the aftermath of recent barn fires.

“That's why we chose the topics that are being covered in this seminar, because we learned so much from the fire and had no idea what we didn't know,” said Susan Burger, ITA board member and Thoroughbred farm owner.

Peter Sacopulos, who has specialized in equine and real estate law, will discuss the legal ramifications of a barn fire. Sacopulos is a member of the Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association.

The insurance information you didn't know you needed to know will be presented by horsewoman and insurance expert Kim Green with Schuetz Insurance Services. Horse owners will learn about emergency triage and what to do with the animals in the midst of the fire with Denise Fletcher. And, finally, member of ATF and horsewoman Cassandra Jones will share tips on what you can do to prevent and battle barn fires.

Attendees will be treated to lunch on the breezeway of Horseshoe Indianapolis and everyone will eligible for giveaways provided by sponsors such as the ITA, Finish Line Horse Products, the Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana, the Indiana Standardbred Association, Murphy Trailer Sales and others.

While a cause to the fire has yet to be confirmed, clean up will soon begin on the more than 100-year-old barn.

On Friday, Michael Lauer, in partnership with Calumet Farm, announced that a season to leading Indiana sire Ready's Image (More Than Ready – Clever Phrase, by Clever Trick), standing at Swifty Farms, will be auctioned off during the Indiana Thoroughbred Owners' and Breeders' Association Annual Banquet. The banquet will be held at Indiana Grand Racing and Casino on Saturday, Jan. 15. All proceeds from the season auction will go to Springcliff Farm.

“Road to Louisville” is open to players both online and on-track at Indiana Grand and Clarksville OTB. Weekly and monthly prizes will be provided as points are cumulative throughout the event. The contest, which will include numerous races each week from select tracks, will be completed on Kentucky Derby Day to crown the overall winner of the $1,000 prize money and a chance to own a future Indiana racehorse.

“Our contests both online and on-track have become increasingly popular, and we wanted to do something to raise the stakes next season,” said Eric Halstrom, Vice President and General Manager of Racing. “After talking with ITOBA President Tom Mosley, we decided to partner with them on our current breeding and racing program, which is so lucrative right now. The idea was created to get one of our loyal racing fans involved with a hands-on ownership experience and enjoy a risk-free way to enjoy the thrill of Indiana Thoroughbred racing.”

This individual will report directly to the ITOBA president and board of directors and will handle all administrative duties. ITOBA is looking for a highly motivated and committed individual who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, is able to prioritize and quickly adapt to change, who can work independently, as well as part of a team, who has a collaborative approach, and who exercises effective problem solving and decision- making skills.

In addition to their administrative duties, the executive secretary will be charged with organizing various association events, such as – Annual Awards Banquet, Champions Day, ITOBA Stakes Day, ITOBA Sale and ITOBA Stallion Service Auction. This role is considered part-time, but workload will fluctuate based on busy seasons and future projects.
