Consigned by Galbertstown Stables, the bay is a grandson of Shirley Casper (Ire) (Presenting {GB}), who won a Grade 2 NH Flat race, and was third in the G1 Paddy Power Champion INH Flat Race, as well as taking the G3 EBF Mares Novice Final Hurdle. The colt is from the family of G1 Irish Grand National H. Chase winner Thunder And Roses (Ire), a full-sister to his second dam.

Colts by Walk In The Park brought €88,000 and €82,000 from Tally-Ho Stud and Redpender Stud, respectively. Lot 543, part of the Yellowford & Drumlin consignment, is from the same female line as Grade 1-winning hurdlers Best Mate (Ire) (Un Desperado {Fr}) and Cornish Rebel (Ire) (Un Desperado {Fr}).

The third highest price was lot 557, who was consigned by Ballintry Stud. He is the first foal out of listed hurdle winner Getaway Gorgeous (Ire) (Getaway {Ger}), who was second in the G2 Island H. Hurdle.

Of the 208 horses offered, 121 sold (58%). The gross was €2,139,600. Both the average and median showed improvement from fewer sold from those lots sent through the ring than last year, with the average up 8% to €17,683. The median rose by 14% to €12,000.

Thursday's session will see foals, broodmares, and breeding prospects go under the hammer from 10 a.m. local time.

Ballincurrig House Stud consigned lot 294, a son of Appy Days (Ire) (King's Theatre {Ire}), and he caught the eyes of Gerry Aherne and Charles Shanahan for €90,000. His dam is out of G3 Nell Gwyn S. heroine A-To-Z (Ire) (Ahonoora {GB}).

Said the colt's breeder Cathal Ennis, “I've had my fair share of setbacks and bred enough slow ones too. I'm not saying I'm successful at all, but if there's one thing I am very fussy about, rightly or wrongly, it's broodmare sires.

“I love mares by King's Theatre, Presenting, Saint Des Saints and so on. I set a lot of store by them. Look at Saddlers' Hall, who was disappointing as a sire, but his daughters were dynamite.”

Second on the list was Castlefarm Stud's son of Ard Abhainn (Ire) (lot 296), who sold for €80,000 to Kevin Ross Bloodstock and Killeen Glebe. His dam, a daughter of Jeremy, won a listed race over hurdles.

Rounding out the top trio was a bay colt (lot 226) from the draft of Thistletown Stud. Snapped up by Rathmore Stud for €80,000, he is out of the Shirocco (Ger) mare Valjan (GB), herself a half-sister to G1 Champion Hurdle winner Katchi (Ire) (Kalanisi {Ire}).

At the close of trade, 132 lots sold (58%) for a gross of €2,157,800. The average remained almost even with 2022's at €16,347, and the median rose €20% to €12,000.

The session-topping lot by Walk In The Park (Ire) is a half-brother to multiple Grade I-scorer Stage Star (Ire) (Fame And Glory {GB}). Out of the graded-stakes winning jump mare Sparky May (GB) (Midnight Legend {GB}), the foal went to Richard Frisby, who also struck earlier for lot 101, a Blue Bresil colt, secured for €45,000.

David Cox of Baroda Stud, who consigned the colt on behalf of breeder Ruxley Holdings Ltd, said, “The late entry was made in order to strike while the iron is hot. Walk In The Park is leading the National Hunt sire table and Stage Star looked even better than last year when he won the Paddy Power Gold Cup last month impressively despite making a mistake.”

In total, 119 horses sold for a turnover of €1,957,000, up 27% from last season, with an average of €16,446, an increase of 8%. The selective market ruled the day, however, as the clearance rate came in at 61%.

Another daughter of Yeats from the Gigginstown House draft, Tintangle (Ire) (lot 726), was snapped up by Coolmara Stables in foal to Crystal Ocean (GB). Knocked down for €190,000, the 8-year-old won a listed bumper and was third in the G1 Paddy Power Future Champions Nov. Hurdle.

Gigginstown House also offered the third highest lot of the day-Surin (Fr) (Authorized {Ire}). Newtown Anner/Ballylinch bought the bay for €115,000. Lot 725, a Grade 3 winner over hurdles and Grade 1 placed, visited Poet's Word (Ire) this spring.

From the foal portion of the sale, 408 (68%) sold of 596 offered for a gross of €6,003,800. The average moved up two points to €14,715 and the median was €9,500 (-5%). The entire sale grossed €7,164,300 for 44 sold from 667 offered (66%). The median was unchanged at €10,000 and the average improved to €16,136 (+1%).

Kevin Ross and trainer Ben Case paired up to buy a colt from the first crop of Ascot Gold Cup winner Order Of St George (lot 242) for €65,000. Offered by Peter Molony’s Rathmore Stud, he is out of the unraced Land Of Pride (Ire) (Presenting {GB}), a half-sister to Splash Of Ginge (GB) (Oscar {Ire}), a Grade 3 winner over fences and hurdles. The colt’s 5-year-old half-brother Seelotmorebusiness (Ire) (Sholokhov {Ire}) is unbeaten in his two starts for Paul Nicholls. Also cracking the top five was a colt by No Risk At All (Fr) (lot 254) who was hammered down to Richard Frisby for €58,000 from the draft of Galbertstown Stables.

At the close of trade, €2,418,500 was spent on 163 foals from 236 offered for a clearance rate of 69%. Last year’s opening session of the sale saw 178 youngsters sold (68%) for an aggregate of €2,424,600. The average rose 8.9% to €14,837, while the median stayed steady at €10,000.

Retired in March of this year, Apple’s Jade, who is in foal to Walk In The Park, will be offered by Gigginstown House Stud as Lot 515 Thursday, Dec. 10.

The winner of 15 career races, the 8-year-old became the first mare to achieve 11 top level victories, including the Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2017, the 2019 Irish Champion Hurdle, and three consecutive wins in both the G1 Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse and G1 Frank Ward Memorial Hurdle at Leopardstown.

“Apple’s Jade is a very special mare,” said Gigginstown Racing Manager Eddie O’Leary. “She was the first mare ever to win eleven Group 1 races, a feat now matched only by the great Enable, and we hope that she can mirror what she achieved on the track through her broodmare career.”
