Garrard has been named as the official partner of Team British Racing (TBR), the internationally renowned jeweler and Great British Racing International (GBRI) announced on Tuesday.

TBR was established by GBRI to highlight the participation and success of British trainers when they have horses competing globally at premier race meetings, with the aim of promoting Britain's world-leading trainers to an international audience.

Founded in 1735, Garrard has long been associated with the world of horseracing. Official Trophies and Silverware supplier to Royal Ascot, Britain's most prestigious horse racing event. Garrard crafted the very first Gold Cup in 1842, while they have also been the trophy-maker of choice for the Bahrain International Trophy at one point, as well as the Saudi Cup.

The newly branded Team British Racing kit, including the eye-catching Union Jack flag horse rugs featuring Garrard's logo, and will be on display on TBR runners during the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita on Nov. 3-4.

Joanne Milner, Chief Executive of Garrard, said, “Ever since our silversmiths crafted the first Gold Cup for Royal Ascot in 1842, Garrard and the world of horseracing have been closely intertwined. As official partner of Team British Racing, we aim to further strengthen Garrard's global ties with this incredible sport.”

Rod Street, CEO, Great British Racing International, added, “Garrard are a brilliant and appropriate brand for Team British Racing. Like British racing itself, Garrard has a long-established history steeped in tradition. Its links with some of the world's most prestigious races aligns perfectly with our aims and we look forward to working together to celebrate British-trained success on the world stage.”

The British racing industry will partner will the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) at the 2023 Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita in November to deliver a UK government trade mission centred around the horse racing industry.

Great British Racing International (GBRI) will lead the four-day mission in partnership with Ascot Racecourse, The Jockey Club and UK Tote Group. The trade mission represents the first time the British racing industry has collaborated on a large-scale international event with the support of the UK government.

Beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 1, is the Welcome Reception hosted by the UK government and sponsored by Ascot Racecourse and The Jockey Club. The event will allow members of the UK racing industry at the Breeders' Cup the opportunity to meet the trade mission delegation, valued owners and other international investors. The remaining three days of the mission will be a business development programme for trade delegates and the opportunity to see British racing play host in a dedicated hospitality area within Santa Anita Park in California. In addition to the programme, there will also be the second edition of the World Tote Association (WoTA) Forum which will be co-chaired by the UK Tote Group and the ATG on Thursday, Nov. 2.

UK Minister for Exports, Department for Business and Trade, Lord Offord said, “Horse racing makes a hugely important contribution to the UK economy and offers exciting export and investment opportunities, so it is fantastic that we are pioneering the first horse racing trade mission at the Breeders' Cup in November.

“The Breeders' Cup offers us the chance to showcase the UK's expertise on a global stage–and hopefully see more British success on the track.”

Rod Street, Chief Executive of Great British Racing International, added, “This initiative, in partnership with the Department for Business and Trade and key industry stakeholders, will give British Racing a prime opportunity to showcase our world-leading credentials across various disciplines on the world stage. As well as facilitating discussions around UK exports, we will be looking to identify and drive opportunities for investment across our industry.

“We also hope that the event will demonstrate to the wider UK government that there is much to be gained by supporting and working more closely with the industry, in various capacities.

“GBRI has developed a close working relationship with DBT over the last two years and this is an excellent example of what our work in this area has yielded for the industry. We would like to thank the team at DBT for their enthusiasm and support for British racing; Ascot Racecourse and The Jockey Club for their kind sponsorship of the Welcome Reception as well as the Breeders' Cup for their assistance with the race day elements of the programme.”

An American Dream: The Return To Royal Ascot, the first installment of a video series in the lead up to Royal Ascot, was launched by Great British Racing International (GBRI) and Ascot Racecourse on Wednesday morning.

The series documents the journey of US-based syndicate operator Harlan Malter, as he tries to turn the dream of returning to Royal Ascot with a horse sired by his 2018 G1 King's Stand S. runner-turned-stallion Bucchero (Kantharos) into reality. In the first video installment, Malter reflects on his personal reasons for his ambitions, as well as his experience of watching the horse carry the Ironhorse Racing silks to place fifth at the Royal Meeting in 2018. He also explains his plans for purchasing an offspring of Bucchero that can be trained in the UK, as well as one day producing a homebred out of Improvise (Fr) (Iffraaj {GB}), a filly purchased from the dispersal of Queen Elizabeth II's horses at Tattersalls last November who is now racing for Ironhorse Racing in America.

Since this first episode was filmed, Malter has also secured a 2-year-old by Bucchero that he plans to aim at the Royal Palm Juvenile S. at Gulfstream Park on May 13, the winner of which will earn an automatic entry into one of Royal Ascot's six 2-year-old races. The colt, purchased for $70,000 at the OBS March Sale, will be trained by Joe Orseno.

Malter said, “Our first tangible step [of the plan] was to head over to Tattersalls this winter to try to acquire a quality European mare to eventually breed to Bucchero. After finding that in Improvise, I was thrilled when GBRI reached out to help me and follow along in this dream. The next step in the process was to find a ready to race 2-year-old Bucchero this year who hopefully we found in the colt we purchased last week.

“The last step will be to head over to Royal Ascot in June and firm up our plans with a UK trainer and together look for a yearling prospect in the fall to send right over to Newmarket to begin preparation for a 2-year-old campaign in the UK.

“In a game that is often dominated by a small group at the top, horse racing is one of the few sports that lets anyone take a shot at glory. The process, the challenge and the people we surround ourselves within this sport is why all of us wouldn't think of living a day without these amazing horses in our lives.”

The first episode in a five-part video series to showcase the various aspects that make owning a horse-in-training in Britain worthwhile, was launched by Great British Racing International (GBRI) on Monday. Titled 'Be A Part Of it: Owning In Britain', the first video is Sir Mark Prescott reflecting on the history and heritage that underpins the British racing experience. Additional videos will be released every Monday. The series, backed by the National Trainers' Federation (NTF), will also show the training environment that Thoroughbreds are exposed to in Britain, as well as the high-quality facilities available; spending a morning with your trainer at their yard or on the gallops; and the quintessential British raceday experience. The final installment is scheduled for right before the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale on Aug. 23-24.

NTF Chief Executive Paul Johnson said, “This video series is an excellent initiative by GBRI on behalf of British trainers, as it showcases all the elements that we do so very well in Britain–the heritage, the facilities, the training environment, the behind-the-scenes experience and the raceday experience. Exhibiting each of these elements to prospective international investors can only be a positive for the industry.”

British racing has formally been incorporated into the UK Government's GREAT Britain & Northern Ireland campaign, which showcases the best of the UK on an international stage. New racing imagery for the campaign was launched via The Jockey Club on the big screens and in the racecard at the Cazoo Derby Festival, a key component of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The imagery is now available to UK Government departments and its international network, including Embassies and High Commissions, for use on trade missions, at receptions and conferences. Great British Racing International (GBRI), the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), UK Tote Group and Ascot Racecourse led the UK racing industry's efforts to be included in the campaign.

Ross Hamilton, Head of Public Affairs at the British Horseracing Authority, said, “The BHA and our partner organisations are delighted to see this new imagery, showcasing the brilliance, diversity, and international appeal of British racing, included as part of the GREAT campaign. This is an important demonstration of how the UK Government can work with British racing as a soft power asset for the UK, while supporting our industry's ambition to grow our international leadership position in the global thoroughbred industry. We continue this work daily across a range of Government departments and industry objectives.”

The International Thoroughbred Breeders' Federation bi-annual Conference, hosted by the ITBF and the British Thoroughbred Breeders' Association, will take place at Newmarket June 6-10. Last held in Lexington in 2018, the conference, which was slated to be held in Paris in 2020, was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Around 70 delegates from 23 countries across six continents are expected to attend. The programme of events takes place over a week and offers members an opportunity to network with other nations as well as raise breeding and wider Thoroughbred industry issues.

Kirsten Rausing, ITBF Chairman, said, “Over the years, through members meeting face to face at the Conferences, ITBF has been able to disseminate a vast and ever-increasing amount of equine information to benefit countries across the globe…We are delighted to be welcoming so many representatives from various ITBF member countries to Newmarket. This meeting is set to increase, by almost two-fold, the number of members who attended the last two conferences.”

As spectators return to racecourses across much of Britain, Great British Racing International (GBRI) has launched a new website and promotional video aimed at encouraging international investment in the sport.

The website contains information about buying, owning, racing and breeding in Britain with links to relevant organisations within the industry. It also includes a map and guide to the country's racecourses and information on stallions standing in Britain.

“GBRI's new website houses all the information and tools necessary for it to become a go-to resource for any aspiring international racehorse owner and/or breeder,” said Minty Farquhar, acting general manager of GBRI.

“The website also explores the industry's credentials as a world-leader in racing, training, breeding, bloodstock sales and more, arming prospective participants with the statistics and information they need to make an informed decision about becoming financially involved in British racing.”

She added, “We are greatly looking forward to welcoming international owners back to our racecourses and sales in the months to come, and in the meantime trust that this enhanced GBRI website and promotional video will serve as a timely reminder as to why the British racing and breeding industry is worthy of the international investment it values so greatly.”

The Great British Stallion Showcase 2021 was launched by the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (TBA) and Great British Racing International (GBRI) on Monday.

The online format is due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that prevented the TBA's Flat Stallion Parade and the National Hunt Stallion Showcase from taking place this year. Photos and videos of each participating stallion, as well as audio clips from stud managers, pedigree and fees are all available at www.greatbritishstallionshowcase.co.uk. In addition, the stallion pages also include the stallions' British EBF eligibility where appropriate. Following the theme of the live stallion parades, the Great British Stallion Showcase 2021 features first- and second-season Flat stallions and National Hunt stallions of all ages.

Claire Sheppard, Chief Executive of the TBA, said, “The TBA and GBRI are delighted to launch the Great British Stallion Showcase for 2021. While sadly the restrictions around Covid-19 have disrupted this year's renewals of our annual Flat Stallion Parade and National Hunt Stallion Showcase, we wanted to offer breeders the next best opportunity to explore and view the outstanding stallion offering in Britain this year.

“Our team at the TBA have liaised closely with stallion studs to source a range of visual and audio assets, while the GBRI team have successfully built a user-friendly, practical website which contains a wealth of information on each stallion. We are grateful for GBRI's expertise in creating this virtual showcase and we look forward to further promotion of the featured stallions over the coming weeks through behind-the-scenes footage and content across digital channels, including bespoke social media assets that have been provided to each stud involved.”
