Making amends for a narrow eclipse at Newmarket, The Aga Khan's Tahiyra (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) returned to re-establish her dominance at The Curragh on Sunday, providing Dermot Weld with a sixth G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas and completing a weekend Classic double for her sire in the process.

So impressive when taking the G1 Moyglare S. here in September, the TDN Rising Star was quicker away here than in the 1000 Guineas and able to draft in behind Meditate (Ire) (No Nay Never) and that runner's stablemate and pacemaker Dower House (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

Delivered by Chris Hayes to tackle Meditate approaching the furlong pole, the 2-5 favourite asserted to confirm the Moyglare form by 1 1/2 lengths, with Jim Bolger's 150-1 shot Comhra (Ire) (Vocalised) a strong-closing head away in third.

Weld said, “She was in a pocket, but when you have a very good horse they have the pace to get out of that pocket. I was always comfortable.

“The plan was to hold on to her and ride her for speed. My only concern was whether she would let herself down on the quick ground. They have done a good job here.

“We'll see how she comes out of this race and obviously we will think about the Coronation S.”

The Aga Khan's daughter, Princess Zara, was in attendance to witness Tahiyra secure a commanding success. Her brown and green silks were also carried by the fourth, Tarawa (Ire) (Shamardal), who supplied Weld with a one-four in the race.

Princess Zara said, “She was very brave and she kept at it and won beautifully. Looking at what she did today, and Paddington yesterday, I think we have a good set of Guineas there. To have a homebred like this is lovely to see.”

Pat Downes, manager of the Aga Khan's Gilltown Stud, echoed the sentiments of Princess Zara and lauded the Haras de Bonneval-based Siyouni.

He said, “These are the kind of results that a stallion needs to achieve to be put in the elite bracket worldwide. They are two very big wins for the horse this weekend and he's just a very good stallion, we knew that already, but they have to keep on producing these big results to maintain their elite bracket status. Thankfully, this has been a great weekend for Siyouni.”

Outbattled at Newmarket, The Aga Khan's Tahiyra (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) returns to The Curragh for what could prove ample compensation in Sunday's G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas. Unable to provide Dermot Weld with that elusive 1000 Guineas victory, the G1 Moyglare S.-winning TDN Rising Star bids to give her trainer a sixth of these. “She was a bit tired after the race, but she travelled home on the ferry and came home well and then she has picked up nicely and we've been pleased with her,” her trainer said. “It was a massive performance.”

Meditate Looks For Revenge

Well adrift of Tahiyra in the 1000 Guineas, it will be interesting to see if Meditate (Ire) (No Nay Never) can get closer than in the Moyglare when she trailed her by 2 1/4 lengths on contrasting ground. Her subsequent success in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf showed how deadly she can be when the surface rides fast and she would not be the first Ballydoyle representative to come from an unplaced effort at Newmarket and return to winning ways in a Curragh equivalent. “Meditate is very classy, has always been very good, and everything has gone very well with her since Newmarket,” O'Brien said. “She didn't have a real clear run through the whole winter into the spring.”

Out Of The Silence

If Tahiyra and Meditate take prominence here, then Moyglare Stud's homebred Eternal Silence (War Front) has a squeak given that she was still a maiden when third behind them in the race named after her owner-breeder's operation. From the Jessie Harrington stable which can do no wrong at present, the daughter of the G2 Ribblesdale S. winner Princess Highway (Street Cry {Ire}) has the scope to have progressed markedly in the interim. “It's been a frustrating Spring with Eternal Silence, as she was meant to run in a few maidens but due to going we didn't run her,” Kate Harrington explained. “She goes there in great form. She was a big filly last season and she's really filled her frame out over the winter. She was a good third in the Moyglare last year behind Tahiyra and Meditate, has had a few racecourse gallops and we got there hopeful of a big run.”

Bernick At The Double

Craig Bernick's colours will be carried by both the Fozzy Stack-trained Aspen Grove (Ire) (Justify) and You Send Me (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), with the latter in joint-ownership with Cayton Park Stud and Linda Shanahan. She was taking on the older horses and colts when second in the G3 Amethyst S. at Leopardstown earlier this month, so has had an unusual prep but is not far off the principals on ratings.

French Classic Winners Back At The Fore

In the card's G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup, The Aga Khan's Vadeni (Fr) (Churchill {Ire}) looks to fend off Bay Bridge (GB) (New Bay {GB}) and Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) in what promises to be a blockbuster. Last year's G1 Prix du Jockey Club and G1 Eclipse S. hero has a run in the G1 Prix Ganay under his belt and unlike that race's third Bay Bridge may prefer this drier ground. “He has, in the past, liked this sort of fast-ish ground so he should be fine,” the owner-breeder's French racing and breeding manager Georges Rimaud said. “The horse is doing well, he has improved from his last race.” At Saint-Cloud, the G1 Prix de Diane and G1 Nassau S. heroine Nashwa (GB) (Frankel {GB}) is back in the G2 Prix Corrida as she kickstarts a 4-year-old campaign that promises to be a bold one.

The Classic-placed Royal Scotsman (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}) has been supplemented to the G1 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas on Saturday, and the field now stands at 12.

Trained by Paul and Oliver Cole for Mrs. Fitri Hay, the G1 Dewhurst S. runner-up and Guineas third is joined by the Guineas second and fourth Hi Royal (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) and Galeron (Ire) (Camacho {GB}) respectively. A trio of colts line up from Aidan O'Brien in Age Of Kings (Ire) (Kingman {GB}), Cairo (Ire) (Quality Road) and Paddington (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}).

Sunday's G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas has attracted a field of 11, with the O'Brien-trained Jackie Oh (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who was a late supplement, set to join Dower House (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Never Ending Story (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), and Meditate (Ire) (No Nay Never) from Ballydoyle.

Dermot Weld is aiming for consecutive victories in the 1600-metre race and has both Tahiyra (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) and Tarawa (Ire) (Shamardal) entered.

“We'll make a decision about Tahiyra in the next day or two but she's most likely to run,” Weld said. “It's just like any other horse, you just want to check all the parameters out and if we're happy with everything when the time comes, she runs. And right now, she's most likely to run.

“The same applies with Tarawa. A decision will be made on her, if not tomorrow, then on Thursday but she's quite a possibility to run as well. We're very happy with both fillies.”

Vadeni (Fr) (Churchill {Ire}), who like Weld's fillies, races in the iconic green and red colours of His Highness The Aga Khan, was supplemented to Sunday's G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup for €45,000.

Georges Rimaud, the Aga Khan's racing and breeding manager in France, said of the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained colt, “There's a logic to going and running in this race, that's why we've chosen this one. Hopefully it will make good sense and he will perform well, I hear there's no rain planned and we're not really worried about the type of ground he is going to run on anyway.

“He has, in the past, liked this sort of fast-ish ground so he should be fine. The horse is doing well, he has improved from his last race. We are hoping for a good run from him, the ground should suit him.”

Tattersalls will continue sponsoring the Irish Guineas Festival and the three associated Group 1 races, the Curragh Racecourse announced on Tuesday.

The sponsorship, which was extended an additional three years from 2023-2025, sees the €500,000 G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas, €500,000 G1 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas, and G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup-with increased prize-money of €450,000–set to be contested at the Curragh during the three-day festival from May 26-28, 2023.

Edmond Mahony, Chairman Tattersalls, said, “The Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival is one of the premier fixtures not only of the Irish racing calendar, but also of the wider European Flat racing scene and we are proud to have the Tattersalls name associated with such an important weekend of racing and more specifically, with three of Ireland's most prestigious races. We are already looking forward to the 2023 Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival and to working with the Curragh Racecourse for the next three years of this flagship sponsorship agreement.”

Tattersalls graduate Native Trial (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) was an impressive winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas last year, while Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) won the 1000 Guineas for Moyglare Stud, Dermot Weld and Chris Hayes. The first entry stage for both Classics has already closed, with some of the highest rated 2-year-olds from last year signed on, including: Little Big Bear (Ire) (No Nay Never), Auguste Rodin (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), Chaldean (GB) (Frankel {GB}), Noble Style (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Al Riffa (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), Victoria Road (Ire) (Saxon Warrior {Jpn}), The Foxes (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}), Crypto Force (GB) (Time Test {GB}) and Proud and Regal (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) are among the entries for the Irish 2000 Guineas. In the fillies' equivalent, Tahiyra (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}), Meditate (Ire) (No Nay Never), Statuette (Justify), Mawj (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}), Fairy Cross (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), Never Ending Story (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), Madly Truly (Ire) (Cracksman {GB}), Zarinsk (GB) (Kodiac {GB}) and Treasure Trove (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) feature.

Curragh CEO Brian Kavanagh said, “Tattersalls are a long and valued supporter of Irish racing and in particular the Curragh. They are a pleasure to work with and today's announcement of a three-year extension of their sponsorship of three of our most important Group 1 races is very welcome news. The 2022 renewals of these races each provided great stories and we look forward to working with Tattersalls to further grow and develop the races over the coming years.”

Kept back from the 1000 Guineas and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, Moyglare Stud's TDN Rising Star Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) was finally let loose on unsuspecting victims lined up for what appeared to be a competitive edition of the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas at The Curragh on Sunday. Travelling like the best filly the whole way settled in rear of mid-division by Chris Hayes, the 11-2 shot who had offered tantalising insight into what was to come when taking the seven-furlong G3 Ballylinch Stud 1000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown Apr. 2 produced explosive acceleration down the outside to chop down the 11-4 favourite Tuesday (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) a furlong from home. At the line, the Dermot Weld-trained homebred had stretched the measurement of her superiority to 5 1/2 lengths from Ballydoyle's number one, with another from that operation Concert Hall (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) running an eye-catching Oaks trial half a length back in third.

“She is very talented and has a lot of pace, but she's not the easiest to keep right,” her master trainer announced in the aftermath of receiving a warm welcome from the appreciative crowd in the winner's enclosure following his 20th Curragh Classic victory. “I've always had the highest confidence in the filly, but I wasn't prepared to run her until she was right and conditions were right and it is beautiful ground today. Chris got her relaxed and gave her a beautiful ride–the only question was whether she would stay a mile, as she has pace to win a group 1 race over six furlongs, but this was the best place to find out.”

Stamped a TDN Rising Star with a debut defeat of Agartha (Ire) (Caravaggio) in what has turned out to be a prescient seven-furlong maiden at Leopardstown in July, Homeless Songs was returning to the scene of the first of two subsequent disappointments when fifth in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. in September. Only sixth in the G3 Killavullan S. back at Leopardstown the following month, the homebred had come back with a clean slate for the latter venue's 1000 Guineas Trial and swept aside Agartha on three-pound better terms to re-establish her reputation. This was much the same in terms of performance, if super-sized to fit the occasion.

Unsurprisingly, Agartha who was at levels this time was in the thick of it again heading to the furlong pole where Joseph O'Brien's solid yardstick was coming off slightly worse in her private argument with Tuesday. What happened in the next dozen seconds was as dramatic as it gets in a fiercely-contested Curragh Classic, as both high-class fillies were swamped and left for dead by the relentless winner. Homeless Songs covered the mile almost a second faster than the year-older Pearls Galore (Fr) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) had carrying the same weight in the preceding G2 Lanwades Stud S. and when weight-for-age is taken into account, the cherry is on the cake where this magnificent display is concerned.

Chris Hayes said, “Where we were drawn is probably the best of the ground. When the draw came out the other day, I was nearly leaping up and down inside in Rosewell! She has an extraordinary turn of foot and the last thing I wanted to do was to be looking for gaps. She likes a little bit of room and you saw what she can do. There was talk that she would be better with a bend and this and that. My only concern coming into today was would I get a clean run of things. Staying a mile and the ground made no difference, as she is a special filly.”

For Weld, the occasion brought rise to many emotions as he pondered the loss of Pat Smullen. “Today would have been his birthday and I saw his picture on the racecard and recalled that he won at stakes level on her dam. He also won this on Nighttime for my late mother in 2006, so it's very poignant,” he said, before his attention was turned back to Homeless Songs' immediate and long-term future. “We'll see how she comes out of this and speak with Eva Maria [Bucher-Haefner], but obviously the Coronation at Royal Ascot has to be considered,” he added. “That is my 27th European Classic and my fifth time to win this race and every Classic is very special and difficult to win. She's a very special filly and she is likely to be around next year–there's every chance.”

Homeless Songs, bred on the same cross as Adayar (Ire), gives Frankel his 21st group 1 winner and hails from a high-achieving family that keeps delivering on the big stage. She is the second foal out of the talented Joailliere (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), who was denied the chance to show her true merit and ended up only ninth in this in 2015 on her second start after an emphatic debut win. Off until her 4-year-old campaign, she was placed in the G3 Concorde S., G3 Park Express S. and G3 Gladness S. before winning the Listed Frankfurt Sprint Trophy. Kin to the G3 Meld S. and G3 Dance Design Fillies' S. winner Carla Bianca (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) and the G2 Beresford S. runner-up True Solitaire (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}), her first foal was the Listed Orby S. winner Reve de Vol (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}), who was also placed in the G2 Champions Juvenile S. and G3 Royal Whip S.

Joailliere is out of the Listed Finale S. winner Diamond Trim (Ire) (Highest Honor {Fr}), whose progeny list is headed by the triple group 3 winner and G1 Irish St Leger runner-up Profound Beauty (Ire) (Danehill) who in turn produced the Listed Platinum S. winner and G3 Athasi S. runner-up Rose de Pierre (Ire) to a mating with Dubawi. Diamond Trim is a granddaughter of the GI Acorn S. winner Aptostar (Fappiano), as well as being a half to the G2 Ribblesdale S. winner Irresistible Jewel (Ire) (Danehill), in turn the dam of the Irish St Leger hero Royal Diamond (Ire) (King's Best), fellow Ribblesdale scorer Princess Highway (Street Cry {Ire}) and Mad about You (Ire) (Indian Ridge {Ire}) who was second in this Classic. Joailliere's 2-year-old colt Time Tells All (Ire) is by Sea the Stars (Ire), while she also has a yearling full-brother to Homeless Songs.

There is something about Galileo (Ire) and the Curragh's hallowed strip of running ground that made such a perfect fit as his star rose inexorably throughout the last two decade or so and, while several of the track's signature races bear his name as sire, the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas does so markedly. Six of the last 11 and the last three winners of the fillies' Classic all carried his stamp and, of course, they all hailed from the colony of class assembled at Rosegreen. Aidan O'Brien and Coolmore's great debt of gratitude for his gift can never be overstated and it is sure to keep giving for the immediate future. Now the world record-holder for delivering stakes winners, the matchless stallion of recent times continues to posthumously churn them out like days of the week. That brings us to the plainly-titled May 1 G1 1000 Guineas third Tuesday (Ire), who along with the more weightily-named May 8 G3 Cornelscourt S. winner History (Ire) on Sunday represent racing's supreme triangle of power as eager as ever to extend an already-astonishing Classic tally.

From The Same Hymnsheet

If there is one sire that can take up the baton from Galileo it is his own son Frankel (GB), who has already crowbarred his way into his sire's realm with a stellar 2021 that serves as an early threat to his dominion. In the Juddmonte colossus's 'TDN Rising Star' Homeless Songs (Ire), he has a filly that seems to be on the verge of something special and she has all the right connections in her corner. While her dynamic display in the seven-furlong G3 Ballylinch Stud 1000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown Apr. 2 would have tempted most into a crack at the Newmarket Classic on ground that may have set back her progression, Moyglare and Dermot Weld's deep pool of combined wisdom opted to keep her powder dry for this test.

“Her mother didn't go on firm ground, so we didn't go to Newmarket and France wasn't the right race either,” Moyglare's bloodstock advisor Fiona Craig explained. “It'll be interesting. If you look at the pedigree, we're hoping the Frankel influence will get her home over the mile. We won't know if she gets the mile until we run over it. I'd have no question about a mile around a turn, it's just that Curragh is a long mile, but this is where we are and at least we've had a bit of rain. She doesn't need soft ground, she just doesn't want it like a road.”

Strength In Depth

This is an excellent renewal with potentially more clout than the 1000 Guineas, with Aidan O'Brien also saddling the far-from-forlorn hope Concert Hall (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}); the outrageously in-form William Haggas stable flying in Lael Stable's Purplepay (Fr) (Zarak {Fr}); the similarly buoyant Joseph O'Brien yard represented by Scott Heider's indefatigable Agartha (Ire) (Caravaggio); and Paul Smith's unknown quantity Hermana Estrella (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}). The latter, whose sole start came when the 50-1 winner of Naas's G3 Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies Sprint S. last May, brings a bizarre but compelling profile into this baptism of fire under Jamie Spencer, whose career truly took off with the Irish 1000 Guineas victory of Tarascon (Ire) (Tirol {Ire}) when he was a 17-year-old apprentice in 1998.

Now You See Him

Assuming its natural position as chief supporting act to the Guineas is the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup, which features the perennial bloomer Lord North (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), prone to popping up now and again to do something notable before disappearing from view once more. Flowering in the desert for the last two renewals of the G1 Dubai Turf, the Gosdens' 6-year-old has a spartan but impressive race record and Thady Gosden is hoping he can extend it here.

“It was a great performance to run as well as he did in Dubai. He has taken that well and had a little bit of time off after the journey,” the junior partner of the new Clarehaven training arrangement said. “He's been training well at home, it's obviously a tough race with State of Rest coming off the back of winning the Ganay. He's race-fit, whereas we've had a little bit of a break but the track should suit him and so will the ground at the moment. He's still very much enjoying his training and his racing and behaving as he ever did.”

In No Mood To Rest

Lord North's biggest problem is the presence of State of Rest (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), the son of this week's headline-making broodmare Repose who is on a winning streak that has taken in the exotic and varying tests of the GI Saratoga Derby Invitational, G1 Cox Plate and G1 Prix Ganay. The fact that Joseph O'Brien's proverbial globetrotter never wins by far makes him hard to pin down for now and this will tell us more. “All being well, he seems to have come through France in good shape and we are looking forward to the weekend,” his trainer said. “I was lucky enough to win the Tattersalls Gold Cup as a jockey on So You Think and it would very satisfying if we could win it with State of Rest. Ideal conditions are probably good or better, there is a bit of rain forecast but hopefully the ground doesn't get too soft.”

Girls Galore

Fillies and mares dominate the rest of Sunday's pattern-race action, with The Curragh's card also boasting the G2 Lanwades Stud S. where Haras de Saint Pair's G1 Matron S. and G1 Prix de la Foret runner-up Pearls Galore (Fr) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) sets the standard threatened by the G3 Athasi S. winner Twilight Spinner (GB) (Twilight Son {GB}), another Scott Heider-Joseph O'Brien project. At Cologne, in the G2 Mehl-Mulhens-Rennen, or German 2000 Guineas, Markus Klug takes the unusual step of pitching Gestut Karlshof's unbeaten filly Mylady (Ger) (The Grey Gatsby {Ire}) against the colts but as she has already bettered them in Krefeld's 8 1/2-furlong G3 Dr Busch-Memorial Apr. 24, why not again? Her biggest issue is the arrival of a William Haggas runner, with Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum's similarly-unbeaten Maljoom (Ire) (Caravaggio) boasting smart form having beaten the useful yardstick Saga (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) in a Kempton conditions event over this trip Apr. 18. Haggas won this in 2002 and 2004 and the insatiable form of the stable at present suggests he will be given due deference by the domestic contenders.

Jim Bolger had been at it on Saturday, but 24 hours later it was his former prodigy Aidan O'Brien who was filling the first two places in a Curragh Classic as Empress Josephine (Ire) narrowly denied Joan of Arc (Ire) in the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas for another Galileo (Ire) forecast. Runner-up in Gowran Park's Listed Victor McCalmont Memorial S. over an extended nine furlongs last time May 5, the winner who is a full-sister to Minding (Ire) was anchored towards the rear early by Seamie Heffernan and travelled strongly at halfway looming wide. Ryan Moore looked to have the race in the bag as Joan of Arc edged ahead of the long-time leader No Speak Alexander (Ire) (Shalaa {Ire}) in the closing stages, but Heffernan was getting a real tune out of Empress Josephine and the 14-1 shot rattled home to deny her stablemate on the nod by a short head. No Speak Alexander ended up a length away in third, with the 15-8 favourite Pretty Gorgeous (Fr) (Lawman {Fr}) only seventh. “The only surprise for me was that she was beaten the last twice,” Heffernan said after registering a fifth win in this Classic. “I had a willing partner. She has a bit of class and it's a pleasure to be on the team riding good horses.”

Introduced over this trip at Naas Mar. 28, Empress Josephine opened her account with the promise of more to come and it was Aidan O'Brien's publicly-stated opinion that she had gone off too fast when attempting to dominate the seven-furlong G3 Ballylinch Stud 1000 Guineas Trial S. at Leopardstown Apr. 11. Fading to 10th there as the marginally-less aggressively-ridden Joan of Arc wound up sixth, the homebred was given time to get over that experience and got back on track with a second to the year-older Too Soon To Panic (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}) at Gowran Park. With her dam having been fifth in a blanket finish to this in 2010 and her illustrious full-sibling denied by a head by Jet Setting (Ire) (Fast Company {Ire}) in 2016, there was a score to settle and Empress Josephine adopted the family's trademark acceleration to do just that. Making up three lengths in the space of a furlong to get up on the line, this could only be viewed as an impressive success in a slowly-run Classic.

“She hadn't run as a 2-year-old, but she wasn't ready to go then and that was just the way it was with her in terms of phsyical strength,” Heffernan added. “She won snug with me at Naas in slow ground and last time Wayne [Lordan] said that she was still a little bit weak for the staying mile-and-a-furlong for the moment. He said that back at a mile she could travel a bit stronger. I wanted to follow Joseph's horse [Pretty Gorgeous] here every step of the way, but that filly actually got bumped and she in turn bumped me which knocked her off balance for a few strides. I was a lucky winner, but I should have won well. At the moment, she probably won't get a mile and a half for another couple of months, but she could if she gets more relaxed.”

Aidan O'Brien was winning the race for the 10th time and said, “We thought she was lovely the first day and then at Leopardstown all the leaders went too fast over seven. We then ran her over nine furlongs in Gowran, a lovely run but we thought nine may have just caught her out. She's able to quicken and Seamus gave her a lovely ride. She's very classy. She might go for the [June 18 G1] Coronation Stakes, but we'll see what the lads want to do. She's a sister to Minding and the second filly is a sister to Gleneagles. We were going to step Joan of Arc up to ten furlongs after today and she might go for the French Oaks [G1 Prix de Diane].”

Joseph O'Brien was far from downcast about the effort of Pretty Gorgeous and said, “I'm happy with the run, as it's not ideal to come here on heavy ground after a long lay-off. I would have loved to get a run into her, but she travelled very well throughout the race and was only beaten about three lengths. We look forward to the rest of the season with her and Royal Ascot looks like the logical place to go.”

Empress Josephine's dam Lillie Langtry (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), who went on to take the G1 Coronation S. and G1 Matron S. following her near-miss in this Classic, is even better known as the dam of the aforementioned seven-times group 1-winning 1000 Guineas and Epsom Oaks heroine Minding. Also responsible for the G3 1000 Guineas Trial winner Kissed By Angels (Ire) also by Galileo, she is kin to the Listed Celebration S. winner and G3 Gallinule S. third Count of Limonade (Ire) (Duke of Marmalade {Ire}) and the Listed Dahlia S. winner and GIII Autumn Miss S. runner-up Danilovna (Ire) (Dansili {GB}). From the family of the group-winning sires Great Commotion and Lead On Time, she also has an as-yet unraced 2-year-old full-sister to Empress Josephine named Bubbling (Ire) and a yearling full-sister.
