Jaber Abdullah's NOISY MUSIC (IRE) (Showcasing {GB}) is a Kevin Ryan-trained daughter of G1 Falmouth S. heroine Music Show (Ire) (Noverre). She is the lone filly in a nine-runner field and her eight rivals include Fiona Carmichael's Altmore (Fr) (Showcasing {GB}), a €360,000 Arqana August half-brother to two black-type performers produced by Listed Prix Dahlia victrix Keegsquaw (Ire) (Street Cry {Ire}), representing the in-form William Haggas stable.

Whether or not connections of Via Sistina (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) allow the G1 Pretty Polly S. heroine to run in Friday's G1 Tattersalls Falmouth S. at Newmarket, the elephant in the room is the supplemented Nashwa (GB) (Frankel {GB}) who could just be ready for a reinvention at the July Festival. Not seen at this trip since the 6 1/2-length Haydock novice success that earned her TDN Rising Star status, the apple of Imad Al Sagar's eye has been as far as 12 furlongs when a creditable third in the Oaks before apparently settling into a niche at or around a mile and a quarter with wins in the G1 Prix de Diane and G1 Nassau S.

While it is on the face of surprising that she is winless since the latter contest, there has been a creeping feeling that the intermediate trip is too far for her now that she has filled her substantial frame. That was no more obvious than last time, when she had Al Husn (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) beaten until tying up in the last handful of the extra 42 yards added to the 10 furlongs of Newcastle's G3 Hoppings Fillies' S. Attempts to curb her enthusiasm have proven fruitless even for the ultra-skilled hands of Hollie Doyle and it would be no surprise to see her allowed to rock and roll from the front on a track that strongly favours that approach.

“She has grown and developed a lot over the winter [and] is a really big, burly mare now,” her rider and number one fan explained. “I think she has taken a time to come to hand and has taken a few runs to get straightened out, really. It seems the obvious route to go down after her last two runs and I've no doubt she's got enough toe. Time will tell, because this is a different ballgame.”

Via Sistina Part Of Falmouth Quandary

With so many fillies going down in trip, this is a far from straightforward renewal of the Falmouth, but then this is a race which can throw curveballs such as Prosperous Voyage (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) at 16-1 last year upsetting Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}). Like Nashwa, Via Sistina is another sharpening up at a mile having beaten the aforementioned Al Husn by six lengths in devastating fashion when the rain came to Newmarket on the weekend of the Guineas Festival. That rampage over the nine furlongs of the G2 Dahlia S. outshines her subsequent triumph in the Pretty Polly and the fact is that the less give in the surface the less advantage she has.

“There are very few horses in training that can be favourite for Group 1 races over various trips and I think she has that versatility in that she stays and has got plenty of boot,” trainer George Boughey said. “She showed a proper turn of foot in the Dahlia and I think over a mile she would be equally as effective. It is a bit of a question mark coming back to the mile as she hasn't ever been there, but for her career going forward we want to try and keep some speed in her.”

Via Sistina remains the winner of the Pretty Polly Stakes at @curraghrace, and Jamie Spencer will miss the ride aboard Khaadem in Saturday's July Cup.

Is This One For The Closers?

With the memory of last year still fresh, it is hard to see anything other than Prosperous Voyage going forward again and with the increasingly free-going Nashwa here alongside another who has set the pace before in the G2 Duke of Cambridge S. runner-up Random Harvest (Ire) (War Front), this could be a case of the leaders setting it up for the finishers. Via Sistina fits that bill, but if the ground is too lively then the likes of the G1 Coronation S. runner-up Remarquee (GB) (Kingman {GB}) and Juddmonte's Sandringham H. winner Coppice (GB) (Kingman {GB}) come into the equation. There is no telling what the plan is in Ryan Moore's mind for Ballydoyle's Never Ending Story (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), another reverting to a mile after a hit-and-miss season which includes a second to Blue Rose Cen (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) in the G1 Prix de Diane which puts her in the mix.

Grand Prix

The Gosdens have a strong chance of a Group 1 double on Friday, with Lady Bamford's Oaks heroine Soul Sister (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) the fly in the colts' ointment in ParisLongchamp's Grand Prix de Paris. Partnered by Kieran Shoemark for the first time, the homebred faces Ecurie Jean-Louis Bouchard's TDN Rising Star Feed The Flame (GB) (Kingman {GB}) who was fourth in a hot G1 Prix du Jockey Club; the G3 Prix Hocquart winner First Minister (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) who was beaten by Feed The Flame in the spring but who hails from the stable of the 13-times successful Andre Fabre; and Ballydoyle's Adelaide River (Ire) (Australia {GB}) who brings the G1 Irish Derby form into sharper focus.

“It's a competitive field and we're getting three pounds off the colts,” Shoemark said. “This is a tough task and it is the first time a filly has ran in the race for 10 years, so it is something that doesn't happen very often but John and Thady Gosden have her in good order and hopefully we go there with a good chance.”

Star Of Mystery Takes Aim At The Duchess of Cambridge

Charlie Appleby's opening fixture of the July Festival was a mixed bag on Thursday, so a big effort from TDN Rising Star Star Of Mystery (GB) (Kodiac {GB}) would be welcome in Friday's G2 Duchess of Cambridge S. So impressive over this course and distance in the Listed Maureen Brittain Memorial Empress Fillies' S., this comes quick enough but with a disappointing turnout of only four her claims are obvious. “Star Of Mystery came out of her recent win in good order and this looks a natural progression for her,” he said. “A couple of her rivals bring Royal Ascot form into the race, which always warrants respect, but she looks the one to beat based on her Empress Stakes display.”

Those Royal Ascot runners will not include Highclere Thoroughbred Racing's G3 Albany S. third Soprano (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), who was ruled out on Thursday due to a medication administration error, but the filly who followed her home in fourth there steps out on Friday. Amo Racing's TDN Rising Star Persian Dreamer (Calyx {GB}) is the form threat to Godolphin's favourite and trainer Dominic Ffrench Davis is hopeful.

“Persian Dreamer ran a blinder and she was the last horse off the bridle,” he said. “I think if she had been drawn on the other side she would definitely have been in the first three, but she ran very well and has come out of the race well. Any rain would be appreciated because she does like to get her toe in a little bit. She's a lovely filly and I think she is going to stay further. She will get seven and a mile next year and I think she will get seven later this year. I think she is going to be a very classy filly if we can keep her in one piece.”

Little Big Bear Still In The July Cup

Aidan O'Brien is leaving a decision on the participation of Little Big Bear (Ire) (No Nay Never) in Saturday's G1 July Cup at Newmarket until later in the week after declaring last year's G1 Phoenix S.-winning champion juvenile. One of only nine engaged in the six-furlong feature, the TDN Rising Star had been a doubt for the contest after suffering a bruised foot but his inclusion means that Rossa Ryan has been booked for his G1 Commonwealth Cup conqueror Shaquille (GB) (Charm Spirit {Ire}). The G2 1895 Duke of York S. winner Azure Blue (Ire) (El Kabeir) and Marc Chan's G1 British Champions Sprint S. hero Kinross (GB) (Kingman {GB}) are other notables in the smallest field for the July Cup since 1997, when Compton Place (GB) (Indian Ridge {Ire}) caused a 50-1 shock.

Imad Al Sagar's Classic winner Nashwa (GB) (Frankel {GB}) has been supplemented at a cost of £20,000 to the G1 Falmouth S. at Newmarket on July 14.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the dual Group 1 winner captured both the Prix de Diane and Nassau S. after running third in the G1 Oaks at Epsom last term. A good second in the G1 Prix de l'Opera that October, she ended her season with a fourth in the GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf in the U.S. Now four, the Blue Diamond Stud homebred was fourth to Group 1 winner Above The Curve (American Pharoah) in the G2 Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud in May, and improved to be second in the G3 Hoppings Fillies' S. at Newcastle at the end of June.

John Gosden, who also trains former Falmouth favourite and now G1 Sussex S.-bound Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), said, “We have supplemented her for the Falmouth. As you know, she has been very slow to come to hand this year. The race in France brought her on a bit. Again the other day, she probably went a little hard early, but didn't finish off.

“She is in great form and she needs racing, and we don't really want to be waiting from two weeks ago all the way to the Nassau S. So, it is close to home and she's in great form and I don't think she'll have any problem with the mile.”

Last week's G1 Pretty Polly S. heroine Via Sistina (Ire) (Fasnet Rock {Aus}) is one of nine signed on to face Nashwa for trainer George Boughey, while Ralph Beckett's G1 Coronation S. runner-up Remarquee (GB) (Kingman {GB}) will carry new silks in the Newmarket showpiece having been purchased by Wathnan Racing. She has been entered in his Wathnan Racing colours for Newmarket's G1 Falmouth S. later this month.

Owned through her first four starts by Julian Richmond-Watson, the 3-year-old daughter of listed winner and dual Group 3-placed Regardez (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}) won her first racecourse appearance at Salisbury at two and the G3 Fred Darling S. at Newbury this spring. Unplaced in the G1 1000 Guineas, the Lawn Stud-bred rebounded to run second in the G1 Coronation S., just a length behind Tahiyra (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) at Royal Ascot.

Group 2 winner Just Beautiful (GB) (Pride Of Dubai {Aus}) will not participate at Royal Ascot, and will instead point toward targets later in the summer with a trip to the Breeders' Cup also a possibility, trainer Paddy Twomey revealed on Friday.

The 5-year-old Moyglare Stud colourbearer ran fifth in the G3 Athasi S. at the Curragh in early May, before taking the G2 Lanwades Stud S. later in the month. The G1 Falmouth S., as well as the G1 Prix Rothschild–both in July–and the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest in August are potential targets for the progressive bay.

Twomey said, “She's not going [to Ascot]. I would say she will go to Deauville maybe. We may look at the Falmouth, but she might go to France for the Prix Maurice De Gheest or Prix Rothschild.”

The trainer added, “The long-term aim would be the [GI] Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita [in November].”

Group 1 winner Prosperous Voyage (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) is headed to the G1 Prix Rothschild in August, according to Jamie McCalmont, who is the racing manager to part-owner Marc Chan. Second to Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in the G1 Fillies' Mile at two, the Ralph Beckett trainee filled that spot again in the G1 1000 Guineas in the wake of Cachet (Ire) (Aclaim {Ire}) on May 1. She weakened to 10th in the G1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot once again behind Inspiral, but bounced back to defeat that foe in the G1 Falmouth S. for a new career high on July 8.

McCalmont said, “All is good with Prosperous Voyage and we're heading to Deauville on Aug. 2 for the Prix Rothschild.

“The Sun Chariot is not until the second half of October, so I don't think we're going to wait that long. I would hope she'll have at least one more run if not two.

“For sure she definitely handles the track at Newmarket very well, so you could see why that [Sun Chariot] would be the long-term aim.”

Friday's Newmarket card features arguably the July Festival's leading light as Cheveley Park Stud's Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) has what appears to be a facile task in the G1 Tattersalls Falmouth S. Racegoers have the pleasure of getting up close to the latest filly star in the firmament and, while it would be insulting to say this amounts to little more than a glorified exercise gallop given the manner of her performance in the G1 Coronation S., her cramped odds say it all. Royal Ascot's explosive return to the limelight was surprising, given the nature of way the Gosdens prepare their seasonal debutantes, and it could be that we see an improved filly here which is plain frightening for her four rivals. The Cheveley Park's trio of previous Falmouth winners, which include the high-achiever Integral (GB) (Dalakhani {Ire}), could pale in comparison with this year's red-white-and-blue luminary by the end of the season.

Return Voyage

Marc Chan and Andrew Rosen's Prosperous Voyage (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) knows all about Inspiral, having chased her home on three of her last four starts, but the latest of those when she beat only two rivals in the Coronation is so far below her previous seconds in the G2 May Hill S. and G1 Fillies' Mile that it is easily excused. Also runner-up in the 1000 Guineas from which Inspiral was AWOL, she needs some inspired craft from Ralph Beckett to subdue the favourite here and her trainer is taking a realistic view. “There's a decent chance of winning some good prize money–that's the idea,” he admitted. “It is difficult.”

'TDN Rising Star' Sibila Spain (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) bids to put the unhappy experience of missing the G2 Duke of Cambridge S. due to getting upset in the stalls behind her and the G2 Prix du Muguet winner has subsequently passed a stalls test. Christopher Head is undaunted at coming back to England for one of the big prizes. “This is the path we want to stay on now,” her trainer said. “She is very strong mentally, she can race from the front and it won't worry her if the ground is fast.”

Lines Converging

As it does so often at this meeting, the varying pieces of Royal Ascot form come together once more in the six-furlong G2 Duchess of Cambridge S., with the June 15 G2 Queen Mary S. runner-up Maylandsea (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) meeting the June 17 G3 Albany S. second and fourth Mawj (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) and Queen Olly (Ire) (No Nay Never). While it is difficult to knock any form from the Royal meeting, it did take a knock here on Thursday with the defeat of the filly that split that pair in third, Ivory Madonna (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}). 'TDN Rising Star' Mawj and Queen Olly looked too exciting on their respective debuts on Newmarket's Rowley Mile May 14 and at York May 12 to be labelled one-hit wonders, with the former especially so given that she is a half-sister to the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf and G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains hero Modern Games (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}).

Fourteen Set For July Cup

Saturday's G1 Darley July Cup has attracted a field of 14, with Christophe Soumillon back in Britain a week on from his Eclipse victory to resume his partnership with Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum's G1 Commonwealth Cup winner Perfect Power (Ire) (Ardad {Ire}). “His turn of foot is his special weapon,” the rider told QIPCO British Champions Series. “For a sprinter, he is able to settle very easily and when you ask him to quicken he's able to show that turn of foot which not so many horses have. He does everything perfectly now.”

Godolphin's G1 Platinum Jubilee S. one-two Naval Crown (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Creative Force (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) are drawn close enough to each other in 13 and nine to suggest they will race much closer than they have in the past, while Artorius (Aus) (Flying Artie {Aus}), who was third in that Royal Ascot feature, is next to Naval Crown in 12.

Click here for the group fields.

At the latest confirmation stage 11 fillies, including undefeated juvenile champion and G1 Coronation S. heroine Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), will contest the G1 Tattersalls Falmouth S. on July 8. The Cheveley Park Stud homebred's rider has not been revealed by John and Thady Gosden, as the former Clarehaven stable jockey Frankie Dettori is on “sabbatical”.

The elder Gosden was at Sandown to saddle Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}), who was a narrow second in the G1 Coral-Eclipse, an said, “Sabbatical was a very carefully chosen word.

“I'm absolutely over the moon with what Frankie is doing, he's going to Germany [on Sunday], he's going to ride a lot for Mark Johnston at Newmarket next week because Joe [Fanning] has hurt his arm and then he's off to Belmont [next weekend], so he's doing exactly what I wanted to see.

“I'm very happy with it and he and I will be back together quite sensibly when we've passed through this.

“He knows as well as I do that you've got to be riding and not have any distractions. We've spoken again and we're very close friends, but I'm not going to say who is going to ride [Inspiral]–I've got to speak to the owners.”

The Italian has been aboard for four of the five 2021 juvenile filly champion's victories. Rob Havlin rode her in her winning debut at Newmarket last July.

One filly who will not take part in the Falmouth is the Dermot Weld-trained Moyglare Stud homebred Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), who won the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas in scintillating fashion in May. Some of the fellow sophomore fillies that have stood their ground include G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas second Prosperous Voyage (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}), and a trio from Aidan O'Brien, among them Group 1 winner Tenebrism (Caravaggio). Among the older brigade is the multiple Group 1 winner Alcohol Free (Ire) (No Nay Never), Cheveley Park's G2 bet365 Mile heroine Lights On (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}), and French raider Sibila Spain (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), who won the G2 Prix du Muguet in early May.

The July 9 G1 Falmouth S. is the next target for G1 Lockinge S. runner-up Lady Bowthorpe (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}). A colourbearer for music agent Emma Banks, the William Jarvis trainee captured the G2 Dahlia S. first up at Newmarket on May 2, before her Lockinge run. Most recently, the bay ran a solid second behind Indie Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) in the G2 Duke Of Cambridge S. at Royal Ascot on June 16.

“She's come out of it pretty well and we're very pleased with her,” said the Newmarket-based handler. “Providing the ground isn't too quick, she'll go for the Falmouth S. at the July meeting.”
