The two newcomers to the stallions ranks at Haras de Bonneval, Vadeni (Fr) and Erevann (Fr), have both had their first mares scanned in foal, the operation announced on Wednesday.

Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget and carrying the colours of the Aga Khan, Vadeni was among the leading three-year-olds in Europe in 2022 when his wins included the G1 Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly and G1 Eclipse S. at Sandown. He also filled the runner-up spot behind Alpinista (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on his final start of the campaign.

Vadeni is set to receive 10 mares from the Aga Khan Studs in his debut season, including Candara (Fr) (Barathea {Ire}), the dam of the Group 1-placed Candarliya (Fr) (Dalakhani {Ire}), as well as the Group 1 winners Ridasiyna (Fr) (Motivator {GB}) and Shareta (Ire) (Sinndar {Ire}).

G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein winner Erevann is also set to receive 10 mares from the homebred broodmare band, including the G1 Hong Kong Vase winner Daryakana (Fr) (Selkirk), already the dam of the G1 Prix Ganay winner Dariyan (Fr), who has moved from Haras de Bonneval to Haras du Mont Goubert for 2024.

Over in Ireland, Capital Stud announced on Wednesday that new recruits Castle Star (Ire) and Authorized (Ire) have also had their first mares confirmed in foal.

“We're delighted with how Castle Star has been received and he is proving exceptionally fertile,” Capital Stud's Ger O'Neill said of the G3 Marble Hill S. winner.

“Fast sons of Starspangledbanner at stud are a scarce commodity and one of the few others there has been, The Wow Signal, only sired a handful of foals but managed to get a Classic winner in Coeursamba among them. We're very excited about Castle Star, providing access to the Danehill line which is becoming more and more scarce, and we think he offers tremendous value standing at €5,000.”

Derby winner Authorized–who is perhaps best known as the sire of Tiger Roll (Ire), one of the most famous jumps horses of the modern era–is also reported to have taken everything in his stride as he stands his first season at Capital Stud in 2024, having arrived from Turkey in January.

O'Neill added, “Authorized has settled in great here at Capital Stud. He's a very quiet horse and is lovely to deal with. We had been told he's slow in the shed, and it's taking him about an hour to cover one mare, but he's doing it well. He's getting his mares in foal, that's the most important thing.”

So far, the dazzling TDN Rising Star Ramatuelle (Justify) has ruled the roost among the fillies of her native France and it is time to go up the ladder again in Sunday's six-furlong G2 Prix Robert Papin at Chantilly. Successful in her opening salvo and the G3 Prix du Bois by a cumulative margin of 9 1/2 lengths at this venue, Infinity Nine Horses' Christopher Head trainee was denied in between by fellow TDN Rising Star and Listed Prix Roland de Chambure winner Beauvatier (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) in Saint-Cloud's Prix Pirette conditions event.

She meets another colt of high standing here in Ballydoyle's His Majesty (Ire) (No Nay Never), who after winning the Curragh's Listed First Flier S. on debut has danced some of the big dances in Britain and Ireland. Whether his third in the G3 Marble Hill S. is good enough to trouble the filly remains to be seen, but he does seems the chief threat to her aside from the unexposed and unbeaten Classic Flower (GB) (Calyx {GB}) from the Patrice Cottier stable. She was impressive over five furlongs at Bordeaux-le-Bouscat in May and would provide her first-crop sire with a huge week if making the jump up.

In the G3 Prix Messidor, The Aga Khan's G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein winner and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois third Erevann (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) looks for a confidence boost, while the G3 Prix Chloe features last year's G3 Preis der Winterkonigin winner Quantanamera (Ger) (Lope De Vega {Ire}).

In the headlines for an infamous moment of pure madness on Friday afternoon, jockey Christophe Soumillon returned to the winner's enclosure aboard His Highness The Aga Khan's Erevann (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}–Ervedya {Fr}, by Siyouni {Fr}) after winning Saturday's G2 Qatar Prix Daniel Wildenstein at ParisLongchamp. The 'TDN Rising Star', who had earlier annexed June's G3 Prix Paul de Moussac at Chantilly, relinquished his perfect record when beaten two necks in the Aug. 14 G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville when last seen and lined up as the 7-5 pick for this one-mile test. Settled off the pace in rear until taking closer order along the false straight, he came under pressure racing alone against the far-side rail approaching the two pole and kept on strongly once taking control with 350 metres remaining to hold the late rattle of 2019 and 2020 winner The Revenant (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) by 1 1/2 lengths.

“That was the expected outcome, but you prefer when they confirm your expectations on the track,” said trainer Jean-Claude Rouget. “We had no doubt he would handle the [very soft] going and Christophe Soumillon did well to go for the inside rail. He quickened nicely, he is a very good horse and should be a grand horse next year. We won't see him again this season and [the G1 Queen Anne S. at] Royal Ascot will be his first major target next year.”

Erevann is the second of four foals and lone scorer out of G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, G1 Coronation S. and G1 Prix du Moulin heroine Ervedya (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}). His dam is a half-sister to Listed Dusseldorf Preis victrix Elennga (Fr) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) and to the dam of the dual stakes-placed Ebony (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}). The April-foaled homebred bay, whose second dam is G3 Prix Vanteaux runner-up Elva (Ire) (King's Best), hails from the family which includes G1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club hero Erdelistan (Fr) (Lashkari {GB}) and is half to a yearling filly by Kitten's Joy and a weanling filly by Lope De Vega (Ire).

Putting her first career defeat in the G1 Falmouth S. firmly behind her on Sunday, Cheveley Park Stud's Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) took another step forward to defeat the colts and older horses in Deauville's illustrious G1 Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois, a 'Win And You're In' for the GI Breeders' Cup Mile at Keeneland in November. Always travelling with abundant intent under Frankie Dettori as she craved action restrained a few lengths off the fierce pace duel up ahead, the G1 Coronation S. and G1 Fillies' Mile heroine worked her way to the fore with 300 metres remaining and had to give extra as the G1 Prix Jean Prat runner-up Light Infantry (Fr) (Fast Company {Ire}) emerged in the closing stages. Always a touch too strong for that rival, the 9-5 second favourite held a neck advantage at the line as the leading French hope Erevann (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) joined in to be the same margin away in third. The 8-5 market-leader Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) made a dramatic wide move from further back, which fizzled out as he came home fifth.

“We were scratching our heads after Newmarket after an amazing performance in the Coronation, but today she was taking on Guineas winners and older horses and showed she's a true champion,” Dettori said. “We went extremely fast throughout and I hit the front plenty early, but John thinks she can get a little bit further in time so I wasn't afraid about getting to the line. She travelled great and was on it today but she's a filly that you need to know–when she wants to go, she's the kind of filly you don't want to disappoint.”

Inspiral, who had proven when ultra-impressive in the Coronation that she is the leading 3-year-old filly in Europe, was up against a notable front-runner's bias in the Falmouth where Prosperous Voyage (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) stole a march on her. That July 8 feature has seen many upsets down the years and the quick surface prevalent at Newmarket's July Festival meant that the Gosdens' luminary was in much deeper than her odds of 1-6 suggested. This was a return to her comfort zone, with the pace so strong up front that Prosperous Voyage was behind the aggressively-ridden trio of State Of Rest (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), Order Of Australia (Ire) (Australia {GB}) and Bathrat Leon (Jpn) (Kizuna {Jpn}). Finishing off at 1:34.07, she is behind only the Freddy Head starlets Goldikova (Ire) (Anabaa) and Moonlight Cloud (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) in terms of winning time in the recent decades, with that duo out on their own in dipping under 1:34.

John Gosden, who was annexing a third straight win in a race he has won four times overall, was keen to revisit Inspiral's sole reversal at Newmarket. “It wasn't really that she was out of form last time–she'd had three weeks since Ascot and was in top form, but it was a small field and she didn't get any cover. She over-raced, did too much and didn't have much left at the end, which is her nature,” he explained. “There was a strong pace today and they went hard up front, so she switched off and relaxed. She probably hit the front a bit soon, to say the least, but the key with her is to get her relaxed early. She's very generous and wants to give and sometimes with that they're a little over-enthusiastic. You could go to a Matron or a Sun Chariot, but I would be inclined to freshen up for the QEII which is her main aim. I prefer to go to the Breeders' Cup with older horses, so not this year.”

David Simcock said of Light Infantry, “I'm very proud of the horse and very pleased. He had a gallop to run at today, which was good, and he's run his heart out and run a personal best. The likelihood is that he'll go straight to the Golden Eagle in Sydney now in October. That will be his last run of the year and then he'll come back.”

Not surprisingly, Coroebus ran the fastest individual furlong of the field in the second half of the race with his sectional of 10.95 coming between the three and the two-furlong pole but he had a lot of ground to make up and paid for that sharp effort late. Along with the progressive runner-up, The Aga Khan's previously unbeaten TDN Rising Star Erevann was also excelling with the promise of better to come having entered this as the least-hardened runner coming off a narrow G3 Prix Paul de Moussac win. Christophe Soumillon said of the son of Ervedya (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), whose 10.99 split to two out was followed by the fastest final furlong, “My horse ran a blinder. He lacked some experience, but made a move like he would win it. Had it been slightly softer, it might have been a better result but I am proud of his performance.”

Inspiral, who was racking up group 1 win number 42 for her sire here, is out of the G1 1000 Guineas and G1 Coronation S. runner-up Starscope (GB) (Selkirk) whose previous best was the Listed Cocked Hat S.-placed Celestran (GB) (Dansili {GB}). The second dam Moon Goddess (GB) (Rainbow Quest), who produced the Listed Rosemary S. winner Solar Magic (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), is a daughter of the Listed Sweet Solera S. winner Mystic Goddess (Storm Bird) who was responsible for the G1 Eclipse S. and G1 Juddmonte International-winning sire Medicean (GB). Also connected to the G2 Keio Hai Nisai S. winner Mondreise (Jpn) (Daiwa Major {Jpn}) and the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains hero and leading sire Caro (Ire), Starscope's yearling colt is by Erevann's sire Siyouni.

Labelled a TDN Rising Star on debut at Deauville in October, the homebred bay duly delivered to take his record to two-for-two in the mile conditions event which serves as a pointer to the Apr. 17 G3 Prix Fontainebleau and ultimately the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains. Settled behind the leading trio early, the Jean-Claude Rouget trainee was asked the question by Christophe Soumillon approaching two out and after edging ahead of the long-time leader Haya Zark (Fr) (Zarak {Fr}) with 100 metres remaining asserted for a short-neck verdict, with the promising Blue Boat (GB) (Frankel {GB}) half a length away in third.

From the mud and the murk of a storm-hit Deauville on Thursday emerged the latest TDN Rising Star as The Aga Khan's Erevann (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) strutted his stuff in the card's opening Prix de Saint-Desir for unraced juveniles. A son of the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, G1 Coronation S. and G1 Prix du Moulin heroine Ervedya (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) racing for the Jean-Claude Rouget stable, the April-foaled bay was patiently ridden by Christophe Soumillon towards the rear early. Making smooth headway in the straight, the 41-10 second favourite was shaken up to challenge at the furlong marker and did it all under mild handling in the closing stages to score stress-free by 3/4-of-a-length from Lev (GB) (Lope de Vega {Ire}). That Pia and Joakim Brandt-trained half-sister to the G3 Prix Sigy-winning sire Fas (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) in turn had 1 1/2 lengths to spare over Etatique (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) in third as the conditions took their toll on most.

Erevann, who is the 18th TDN Rising Star for his sire, is the second of three foals and first scorer out of the high-class miler, who is a half-sister to the Listed Dusseldorf Preis winner Elennga (Fr) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) and to the dam of the dual listed-placed Ebony (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}). A daughter of the G3 Prix Vanteaux runner-up Elva (Ire) (King's Best), her filly foal is by Kitten's Joy.
