Linda Rice continued to assert her dominance on the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) circuit when capturing the Aqueduct Racetrack winter meet training title with 23 wins at the 45-day meeting which ran from Jan. 1 through Mar. 30.

Rice has now won the training title at six of the last seven NYRA meetings, along with year-end honors last year as the circuit's top trainer with a record-tying 164 wins. She also came out on top at last year's Big A winter meet with 37 wins.

“It's great,” said Rice. “Frankly, I love New York winter racing and it's a good place for my clients. They enjoy it, I enjoy it, and it's been a good winter. It's pretty surreal.”

Rice, 60, posted a record of 137-23-27-23 with $1,471,414 in earnings, good for a win rate of 16.79 percent and in-the-money rate of 53.28 percent.

Jockey Dylan Davis clinched his second Aqueduct winter meet riding title when posting 54 wins.

In all, Davis' mounts banked $2,699,061, with a win rate of 22.31 percent and in-the-money percentage of 50.41.

“I've won this title before and [it's] great to win it again,” said Davis. “My business has improved every year along with the quality of horses I'm riding.”

David Jacobson claimed his first owners' title at NYRA since capturing the 2017 Aqueduct inner track meet. The veteran owner and conditioner secured 18 wins at the meet, including four races on Closing Day.

Veni, vidi, vici. He came, he saw, he conquered. Like Julius Caesar, Susumu Fujita's Forever Young (Jpn) (Real Steel {Jpn}–Forever Darling, by Congrats) came prepared for battle and lived up to the hype, stamping himself as a potential superstar and giving Japan a third consecutive victory–and fourth since 2016–in the $1-million G2 UAE Derby at Meydan Racecourse on Dubai World Cup Day. The pacesetter Auto Bahn (Arg) (Asiatic Boy {Arg}) held second, while the sole U.S. representative, Pandagate (Arrogate), was third. The UAE Derby offers GI Kentucky Derby points on a 100-50-25-15-10 scale, essentially guaranteeing Forever Young a spot at Churchill Downs, a route trainer Yoshito Yahagi said he intends to pursue. Final time for the 1900 meters was 1:57.89.

It was the first UAE Derby win for both Fujita and Yahagi, as well as for rider Ryusei Sakai. The win was particularly poignant for Yahagi, whose father had passed away in Japan just hours earlier.

“My teacher, mentor, and father passed away this morning and I want to dedicate this win to him,” an emotional Yahagi said following the race.

Forever Young overcame a wide break from Meydan's stall 11 Saturday and sat outside but prominently in the early first flight before settling into a wide fifth, feeling the breeze while in the clear. Little changed up front as Southern Hemisphere stablemates Oasis Boy (Arg) (Asiatic Boy {Arg} and Auto Bahn (Arg) showed the way until heading into the homestretch, when Auto Bahn put away his fellow Julio Olascoaga trainee as Forever Young loomed menacingly to his outside. Sakai gave the bay winner a few right-handed taps of the whip as Auto Bahn yielded. Forever Young drew clear by two lengths under a late hand ride with his ears pricked as conditioner Christophe Clement's last-out Gander S. winner Pandagate closed from his penultimate running spot with long, easy strides to wind up several lengths back in third.

Yahagi reiterated several times the Kentucky Derby will be the next target for the winner.

“Of course it will be very difficult to manage the horse's condition from Dubai to Kentucky, but I really believe my team will be able to get him in good order,” said Yahagi.

Kentucky is not an option for Auto Bahn, as he is a 4-year-old on Southern Hemisphere time.

Jockey Dylan Davis, Pandagate's rider, indicated he felt his colt may benefit from a longer distance than the 1900 meters of the Saudi Derby. “We found some good rhythm. When they punched, they just had a better kick than me and my horse just kept fighting for third and he managed to prevail for third. Shipping all the way and performing on this stage–he showed that he improved again. He got there well, he is kind of a stayer. He hasn't got a big turn of foot but getting further should be no problem.”

Forever Young, who made his first two career starts at nine furlongs, has never been beaten. He made three trips to the starting gate as a 2-year-old in Japan, getting started last October at Kyoto and reeling off three consecutive victories at three different tracks, culminating with listed wins in the JBC Nisai Yushun and the Zennippon Nisai Yushun. With performances of a caliber that made him the highest-rated dirt juvenile in Japanese history, Forever Young tackled the world stage next, where word was already out that this colt might be something special. He didn't disappoint despite a less-than-ideal trip in the $1.5-million G3 Boutique Group Saudi Derby at Riyadh's King Abdulaziz Racecourse Feb. 24. The head victory may have been his only winning margin shy of daylight, but it was in such a manner–where he ran down what looked to be a clear winner–that he was clearly the horse to beat in the UAE Derby.

“He did not travel well from Japan to Saudi Arabia so he was not in great condition but he still performed very well,” said Yahagi. “After traveling from Riyadh to Dubai he improved and he has so much potential, I always have a lot of confidence in him.”

Winning owner Fujita concurred that Forever Young will travel next to Kentucky. “This is only my third season as an owner with the Japan Racing Association and I have already found a champion racehorse. He continues to attract international attention for the Kentucky Derby, which tells me that he should have a good chance. Looking forward I would like to underline that I would like to win the Dubai World Cup.”

Pedigree Notes:

Shadai Stallion Station's Real Steel, himself a big winner in Dubai when he took the G1 Dubai Turf in 2016, is also a full-brother to U.S. and Japanese champion Loves Only You (Jpn), winner of the GI Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf in 2021. With just two crops to the races thus far, Real Steel has three black-type winners, all in group company. Forever Young is his first stakes winner outside of Japan. Forever Young is also one of 26 black-type winners worldwide out of a daughter of Congrats, a son of A.P. Indy who was pensioned from stud duty at WinStar Farm after the 2021 season.

Forever Darling, winner of the 2016 GII Santa Ynez S., was exported to the UK in 2017, bred to Frankel (GB), and shipped to Japan, where she has remained. She has a 2-year-old filly by Kizuna (Jpn) and a yearling filly by Epiphaneia (Jpn). Bred for 2024 to Rey de Oro (Jpn), Forever Darling is a half-sister to 2017 GI Darley Alcibiades S. winner Heavenly Love (Malibu Moon), dam of $2.3-million Fasig-Tipton Saratoga topper and 'TDN Rising Star' Sierra Leone (Gun Runner). The latter most recently won the Feb. 17 GII Risen Star S. and is pointing to Keeneland's GI Toyota Blue Grass next week. Other members of the family include 2004 Japanese Horse of the Year Zenno Rob Roy (Jpn) (Sunday Silence), a half-brother to Forever Young's granddam, MSW & MGISP Darling My Darling.

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES — RRR Racing's Clapton (Brethren) may be one of the rank outsiders in international markets for Saturday's G1 Dubai World Cup, but trainer Chad Summers, who won the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen with Mind Your Biscuits (Posse) in 2017 and 2018, is embracing the underdog role against the likes of Ushba Tesoro (Jpn) (Orfevre {Jpn}) and Kabirkhan (California Chrome).

“We're not here for the accommodations. We're not here for the badges and the passes and the parties,” Summers said. “We're here because we want to have a chance to hold that trophy up and put our name in the lore of the horses that have won it in the past.

“We're 60-1 and everyone says we have no shot. And we like being there. We like being the one that everybody counts out. It's a comfortable place for us and we're used to it.”

Clapton, last year's GII Lukas Classic winner, made a pair of starts during the Dubai Racing Carnival, finishing third to Kabirkhan in the G1 Al Maktoum Challenge in January and again to Military Law (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge on Super Saturday, Mar. 2

After some internal debate, Clapton–whose owner also campaigns defending G2 Godolphin Mile champion Isolate (Mark Valeski) with trainer Doug Watson–has been green-lighted for the World Cup and he'll leave from gate seven with Dylan Davis taking the ride. Summers and team have made some subtle tweaks and he believes he has the chestnut ready for the test.

“We have some working theories now as to what happened,” he explained. “For the last two months, he'd come out of the stall at 4 a.m. and we're waking him up at 2:30. He's not used to that. By the time he goes back in the stall at 7 a.m. he's been out of the stall for three hours. That's a lot of walking.”

It's a four-mile round trip from the barn to the Meydan main track.

“We're only taking him to this track three days a week instead of six days a week now,” Summers continued. “He seems like a fresher, happier horse. They have other tracks in the back and he seems just more like the old Clapton that we needed to see, because to be honest with you, we have too much respect for this race to run just to run.”

It's a bit of a full-circle moment for Summers this weekend, as Mind Your Biscuits is ironically the sire of one of Clapton's main World Cup foes in the form of G2 UAE Derby winner and GI Breeders' Cup Classic runner-up Derma Sotogake (Jpn).

“To watch him pop out of the gate and go on with it and just utterly dominate and then go on to the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders' Cup was amazing,” Summers said of Derma Sotogake's run in last year's UAE Derby.

But the gloves come off this weekend, make no mistake.

“Hopefully Biscuits can look down on me one more time and tell Christophe Lemaire to ride him like he rode him in the UAE Derby, go to the lead and battle Laurel River (Into Mischief) and go fast enough to help set things up for Clapton.

When Carson's Run (Cupid) won the GI bet365 Summer S. at Woodbine Racetrack this past weekend, earning a trip to the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita, the story was bigger than one horse and one race.

The 2-year-old chestnut colt is named for the 31-year-old son of Wade Jost, who bought into the horse from his classmate at the United States Military Academy, Terry Finley, thorough West Point Thoroughbreds.

Carson Jost continues to battle Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome. The story might sound familiar, as Cody's Wish (Curlin) is named in honor of Cody Dorman, who also suffers from the rare genetic disorder.

To learn more about Carson Jost and this colt, Wade Jost was the Green Group Guest of the Week on this week's TDN Writers' Rooom podcast presented by Keeneland.

“It's been emotional, as my voice breaks right now,” Jost said. “We just wanted to do something for Carson. He's never walked and this is an opportunity to give him some focus, give him some limelight. Terry and I have been talking for over a decade about this, the possibility of doing something in his honor. The timing was just right. Carson just turned 31. He wasn't supposed to be with us and was supposed to have passed early in life. But mainly because of all the love he gets from his mother, who has constantly taken care of him, he is still with us.”

The Josts have yet to see Carson's Run compete live, but a trip to the Breeders' Cup and a meeting with the Dorman family is a possibility.

“It sounds like both Cody's Wish and Carson's Run may be at the Breeders' Cup,” Jost said. “If so, we'd love to get together with the Dormans. We'll talk about it after we get through some more races here. It's good that the Breeders' Cup is at Santa Anita on the West Coast, given that we live in Washington State. It may still be tough. Carson has a lot of issues, one of which is a very low immune system. So with everything going on right now, with all the viruses going on in the world, it may be tough to get them down there, but we'll see.”

Jost's military career included fighting in the Gulf War. An inordinate number of people who fought in that war went on to have children born with disabilities. Could that be what happened with Carson?

“The bottom line is we don't know,” Jost said. “But yes, the possibility exists. I know it definitely did for some that have been diagnosed. By and large, this chromosomal disorder is overwhelmingly a matter of one of the two parents carrying it in their chromosomes. But it just hadn't affected them until they had offspring. That didn't happen with my wife and I. So we don't know. Carson was doing studies. We were doing studies for three years after he was born. And we got to a point where the studies got to be too frequent. The blood that they drew, the tests that they did, and we finally just decided that it was time to move on with life and not put him through any more of that rigor. Nothing was ever conclusive for us.”

Elsewhere on the podcast, which is also sponsored by the Retired Racehorse Project, the Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association, Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders, WinStar Farm, XBTV.com, Lane's End and West Point Thoroughbreds, the team of Zoe Cadman, Bill Finley and Randy Moss delved into another big weekend in North America for trainer Charlie Appleby, who won the GI Woodbine Mile S. and the GIII Jockey Club Oaks Invitational S. Cadman gave an update on the Keeneland September Sale and the trio looked ahead to Saturday's GI Pennsylvania Derby and the GI Cotillion S. at Parx. There was also a spirited debate about whether or not running a horse too often or on short rest could be a contributing factor when it comes to breakdowns. Moss said yes. Finley said no.

Breeders' Cup winner Cody's Wish (Curlin) may be the sport's poster boy for feel-good racing stories, but there's another waiting in the wings as West Point Thoroughbreds and Steven Bouchey's own touching story about Carson's Run (c, 2, Cupid-Hot N Hectic, by Henny Hughes) keeps improving. The 2-year-old colt may be headed to the Breeders' Cup himself after capturing Saturday's GI Bet365 Summer S. at Woodbine, a “Win and You're In” event offering the winner a free berth into the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita Nov. 3. Like Cody's Wish, Carson's Run was named after a young man who suffers from Wolf-Hirschorn Syndrome.

With the start of the C$500,000 Summer delayed several moments due to a last-minute shoe repair for 9-5 pick My Boy Prince (Cairo Prince), who was coming off a 14-length triumph in the Aug. 27 Simcoe S. over Woodbine's Tapeta, that one set the early :23.46 and :47.10 pace while Carson's Run lingered at the back of the field, saving ground on the inside. Just like in his earlier two starts, Carson's Run was unhurried early and waited patiently to make his move. They came off the turn with My Boy Prince in front on the rail as Carson's Run abruptly hurtled around the middle of the course, about 10 paths wide, with an Arazi-like move in search of a clear run. He sailed on by to win by 2 1/4 lengths, with My Boy Prince holding off the filly Go With Gusto (Medaglia d'Oro)–who finished first but was disqualified in her course and distance debut here Aug.13– for third. Final time for the mile on the lawn was 1:35.70; the Juvenile Turf is the same distance and, like the Summer, open to both colts and fillies.

“He did very well there because he saved all the ground he could and then when he angled him out at the quarter pole, we had to come wide obviously, but that way you don't get any traffic,” said trainer Christophe Clement's assistant Christophe Lorieul. “He had a clear run from quarter pole to the wire and he really showed what he is today.”

Carson's Run, a $170,000 OBS April buy after working :10 1/5, kickstarted his career with a game debut July 29 at Saratoga, chasing early before angling wide and digging in to win by a neck in a performance much like his Summer win. He tried similar tactics in the GIII With Anticipation S., also at the Spa but over heavier going, only to get caught late by the improving filly Gala Brand (Violence) and finish a half-length back. Dylan Davis has been aboard for all three starts.

“Today, we wanted to go with the outside route and keep a clear trip on him,” said Davis. “We saved all the ground going into the turn–nice real big turn here–and he was able to get it done.”

Pedigree Notes:

Coolmore America's Cupid may stand in Kentucky but has had his biggest success to date north of the border, as Carson's Run adds his first Grade I win to Cupid's sire tally to go along with 2021 Canadian champion 2-year-old colt God of Love and 2022 Prince of Wales S. winner Duke of Love. Overall, Cupid has four graded winners among his seven Northern Hemisphere-bred black-type winners.

Henny Hughes, a Storm Cat-line stallion who has stood in Japan since the 2014 season, is finding success as a broodmare sire with both Carson's Run and Beholder's daughter Tamara (Bolt d'Oro) adding Grade I wins in the last week. Among the 21 other stakes winners out of his daughters is champion Monomoy Girl (Tapizar). Interestingly, Carson's Run was bred by Frankfort Park Farm, who co-bred Monomoy Girl.

Hot N Hectic's only other foal is a Volatile colt foaled Jan. 25 of this year. A half-sister to fan favorite MGSW & GISP Rated R Superstar (Kodiak Kowboy), Hot N Hectic was bred to Maxfield for 2024.

The Davis clan dominated Sunday's second race at Saratoga as members of the family swept the first four spots under the wire for a “Davis superfecta.”

Katie Davis rode the winner of thee $30,000 maiden claimer, Danny Gargan-trainee Bon Adieu (Ghostzapper), finishing seven lengths ahead of Mim (Practical Joke), ridden by her brother Dylan. Embraceable Gal (Midnight Lute) was next and was ridden by Trevor McCarthy, who is Katie Davis's husband. Sweet Liberty (Bellamy Road) was fourth and was ridden by Jackie Davis, the sister of Katie and Dylan. The all Davis superfecta paid $26.35 for a 10-cent wager.

Katie, Dylan and Jackie are the offspring of retired jockey Robbie Davis.

“I looked at the screen because Danny (Gargan) said look at the superfecta, it was all four of you,” Katie said. “I was waiting for this moment. We made history again and it was really nice to beat Dylan this time. I looked back and thought here he comes, I've got to ride harder.”

“I was really happy for all of us,” said Jackie Davis. “I thought it was really cool. During the race we were all trying to beat one another. Afterward, we were laughing. When my horse started getting tired, I was watching Dylan and Katie's horses go forward and I didn't know who to root for. Everybody was really excited after it was over. This was amazing.”

Katie Davis has had seven winners at the meet.

“It all comes down to having a lot of support,” she said. “I'm lucky enough that I'm doing well and I keep it going. I never thought it would be like this. It's a great surprise and I am running with it. It's very special.”

This is the first Saratoga meet where all four members of the family have been regular members of the jockey colony. Still another Davis, Eddie, works for Bill Mott and is the regular exercise rider of Cody's Wish (Curlin).

There could be some more Davis magic Monday. In the eleventh race, Katie will ride Mugsy Fury (Big Brown) for her father, who is now a trainer.

West Point Thoroughbreds and Dream With Me Stable's Parnac (Fr) (Zarak {Fr}) was sent to the front by Dylan Davis and never looked back against the three rivals in Saturday's 'Win and You're In' GII Flower Bowl S. at Saratoga.

The 8-1 shot took the initiative in the 1 3/8-mile journey, led through easy fractions of :25.19 and :51.33 over the firm going, kicked for home as the one to catch and kept on finding to score by 1 1/4 lengths over heavily favored McKulick (GB) (Frankel {GB}).

Two for two as a juvenile for trainer Andreas Wohler in Germany, Parnac won one of five starts–a first-level allowance over the Aqueduct lawn Oct. 29–on these shores last term.

A narrow optional claiming winner downstate June 11, she entered off a third-place finish in Delaware's GIII Robert G. Dick Memorial S. July 1.

After that race's winner Sopran Basilea (Night of Thunder {Ire}) and runner-up Ever Summer (Summer Front) suffered fatal injuries over the Saratoga turf in their subsequent starts, Parnac was a precautionary scratch by NYRA officials out of an optional claimer at the Spa Aug. 11.

“I guess I have to be thankful to [NYRA President & CEO] David O'Rourke because we had to scratch Parnac from the three-other-than a few weeks ago,” winning trainer Christophe Clement said.

“We decided to run here, and it was the right decision. Sometimes, you have to take a shot. I thought it was a fair race, I'm delighted. Some people might say she stole the race, maybe she did steal the race, but you know what? She stole it in a nice way. She won pretty easily in the end.”

Clement added, “[GI] E.P. Taylor [Oct. 8 at Woodbine], Breeders' Cup, Long Island [at Aqueduct Racetrack]; we have a quite a few choices. Let's enjoy this for a few days.”

Pedigree Notes:

Parnac is the first U.S. stakes winner for the Aga Khan's Studs- based Zarak, a son of Dubawi (Ire) and G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and Prix de Diane heroine Zarkava (Ire) (Zamindar).

She becomes the 10th graded/group winner worldwide for her sire. The winner's group-placed dam's most recent produce is the 2-year-old gelding Kingdom of Stars (Fr) (Cloth of Stars {Ire}), who is unraced in France.

Brothers Irad Ortiz Jr., and Jose Ortiz will both serve three-day “careless riding” suspensions Aug. 9-11 that were imposed by the Saratoga Race Course stewards for separate infractions that involved winning rides last week. Both jockeys elected not to appeal their penalties.

Irad Ortiz crossed the wire first but got disqualified aboard 1.45-1 favorite Eyes On Target (Exaggerator) in the seventh race July 27, a $25,000 claiming turf route.

The Equibase chart stated that in upper stretch, his mount “was under a light drive in behind the top pair just off the inside, had the rider look to the outside, tipped out into a space three to four paths off the rail forcing Tartini (Giant's Causeway) to check between to pinching foes and Tommy Bee (Medaglia d'Oro) who was attempting to angle in to the seam from the outside to pause and steady in behind and to the outside of Tartini…”

Eyes On Target then rallied and was just up in the final few jumps to prevail.

Tartini's jockey, Dylan Davis, claimed foul after finishing eighth. The stewards demoted Eyes on Target and placed Ortiz's mount behind that fouled rival. Tommy Bee crossed the wire fifth.

Jose Ortiz won the tenth race July 26, a $40,000 maiden-claiming turf route, aboard the 5-1 Indian Mischief (Into Mischief).

The Equibase chart stated that after making the lead and straightening away in the stretch, Indian Mischief “came under a left handed crop and drifted out two paths directly in front and impeding He's a Lucky Guy [Street Boss] forcing that foe to check just off his heels sharp enough to displace large chunks of the sod in a halt while brushing that foe with his hindquarters…” before inching away to victory.

After a stewards' inquiry, the results stood.

The tale of Cody's Wish (Curlin) and his association with Cody Dorman continues to be a powerful, feel-good story for the sport of racing. Cody's Wish was named for Dorman, a young man who suffers from Wolf-Hirschorn Syndrome, and the horse's six-race winning streak has brought joy to Dorman and his family.

Wade Jost knows just how the Dormans feel.

The first race at Saratoga Saturday was won by Carson's Run (Cupid), who is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and Steven Bouchey. The 2-year-old colt was named after Carson Jost, 30, who also suffers from Wolf-Hirschorn Syndrome, a chromosomal deletion syndrome resulting from a partial deletion on the short arm of chromosome 4. Features include a distinct craniofacial features, delayed growth and development, intellectual disability, and seizures.
Jost's father, Wade, is a co-owner of the horse through West Point and was classmate of Finley at the U.S. Military Academy.

“I get emotional talking about this,” Jost said. “We were overwhelmed. We weren't expecting that. That the horse performed the way he did was phenomenal.”

Andrew

Finley and Jost had stayed close since their West Point days and the two had conversations at the annual Army-Navy game about the possibility of West Point naming a horse after Carson. Finley told Jost he would find a horse for him and did just that at this year's OBS April sale, where he purchased Carson's Run for $170,000.

“I've talked to him for the last couple of years and he said `I really want to get a horse for our boy Carson,' and over the years, he's had a lot of challenges and has really been an inspiration to all of us,” Finley said. “And when we bought this horse, it all just came together. I said, `I think I need to call Wade,' and I did and he said, `I'm in. Whatever you need me to do.'”

Carson is Wade's oldest child and has three siblings. None of the other children in the family suffer from Wolf-Hirschorn Syndrome. According to a story posted on West Point's website, Jost served in the Gulf War, and was conceived and born shortly after Wade returned home. According to the West Point report, it was later determined that members of Wade's unit in the Army had a high rate of abnormal births with their kids born after they returned from the war. The fathers and children were put into a study group to try to determine the cause. Ultimately the results were inconclusive, but the Gulf War has been a proven link to many multi-symptomatic disorders in hundreds of thousands of U.S. veterans who served.

The Jost family gathered in front of a television set Saturday in their home in Washington State. Making his first career start, Carson's Run was sent off at 5-1 and was ridden by Dylan Davis. Trained by Christophe Clement, the two-year-old was sixth early on in the mile-and-a-sixteenth turf race and took control inside the final furlong to win by a neck.

“No. Carson has the mental capacity of about a one-year-old,” Wade Jost said when asked if Carson understood that a horse named for him was running. “We put him right in front of the TV and when the race took off he really got animated. It was kind of cool. He doesn't usually get all that animated, so it was neat to watch him do that.”

“We run a lot of horses but this was extra special,” Finley said. “Wade and I have been friends for a long time. It was very, very cool.”

While Cody Dorman has seen several of Cody's Wish's race in person, Carson Jost has yet to meet his namesake. Wade Jost said he hopes that will soon change.

“We would love to come for one of his races,” Jost said. “We found out just last week he was going to race today and we need more lead time than that. It is our plan to try to make it out.”

Jost said he first became aware of the Cody Dorman story while watching this year's GI Kentucky Derby broadcast on NBC. Cody's Wish ran on the Derby undercard, winning the GI Churchill Downs S.

“When we decided to do this early in the spring with Carson I hadn't known anything about Cody's Wish,” Jost said. “I sat down to watch the Kentucky Derby and saw the story about Cody come on. As soon as I saw Cody I knew before they even said anything about Wolf-Hirschorn Syndrome that Carson and Cody had the same thing. The similarities and facial features is just overwhelming.”

Both Jost and Finley said they didn't want their story to compete with the story of Cody's Wish or do anything to deflect from the attention the horse and the Dorman family has received. There was no need to worry. Within minutes of the finish of the race, Finley received a text from Kelly Dorman, Cody's father, congratulating him on the victory.

Andrew

“I didn't want anybody to think we were trying to copy Cody's Wish and their story,” Finley said. “I got a beautiful text from Cody's father Kelly after the race. He had introduced himself to me at the Belmont. He said that he saw me saw me at the Breeders' Cup (where Flightline (Tapit), co-owned by West Point, won the GI Breeders' Cup Classic) and noted how emotional I was. It was very moving for me. I I told him how much I admired how they had handled the story of Cody and how it was very inspiring.”

“We will be reaching out to the Dorman family,” Jost said. “I didn't want to take away from the great story that is Cody's Wish. So I was happy that they reached out. We will get together. I look forward to that.”

Finley said that Carson's Run's next start would likely come in the GIII With Anticipation S. on Aug. 31 at Saratoga.

Maybe the Jost family can make it for that race. Win or lose, the presence of Cody's Run will make the With Anticipation a race worth following. It looks like Carson's Run is a good horse who will have a good chance of picking up a graded stakes win. A good horse and a great story.
