A total of nine races, all slated for Meydan Racecourse between January and March of 2024, will carry automatic entry into the corresponding race on Dubai World Cup night on Mar. 30, with a chance of a 10% bonus if they win both races. Horses are only eligible for one bonus per season and race entry fees still apply. The qualifying races, and their purse bonuses are as follows:

• G1 Al Maktoum Challenge, Jan 26: Winner Bonus to G1 Dubai World Cup – US $1.2 million
• G1 Jebel Hatta, Jan 26: Winner Bonus to G1 Dubai Turf – US $500,000
• G3 UAE 2000 Guineas, Jan 26: Winner Bonus to G2 UAE Derby – US $100,000
• G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy, Feb 23rd: Winner Bonus to G2 Gold Cup – US $100,000
• G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint, Mar. 2: Winner Bonus to G1 Al Quoz Sprint – US $150,000
• G3 Mahab Al Shimaal, Mar. 2: Winner Bonus to the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen – US $200,000
• G3 Burj Nahaar, Mar. 2: Winner Bonus to the G2 Godolphin Mile – US $100,000
• G2 Dubai City of Gold, Mar. 2: Winner Bonus to the G1 Longines Sheema Classic – US $600,000
• G2 Al Maktoum Classic, Mar. 2: Winner Bonus to the G1 Dubai World Cup – US $1.2 million

Several new races have joined the lineup, including the 2000-metre Thunder Snow Challenge, and the 1400m Ipi Tombe S. for fillies and mares. In total, there are 21 group races for Thoroughbreds and Purebred Arabians, as well as 20 handicaps–10 dirt and 10 turf–complementing the Pattern races. The Jumeirah Turf Series for 3-year-olds returns for a second season with an enhancement of two Classic races for 3-year-old filly events also on turf.

Super Saturday will take place on Mar. 4, the official dress rehearsal for the $30.5-million Dubai World Cup meeting at the end of the month. There is also the new Ras Al Khor, which was oversubscribed for the inaugural running in 2022.

Major General Mohammed Al Essa, General Manager of Dubai Racing Club, explained the new look of the Carnival programme and said, “Under the guidance of Sheikh Rashid Bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Racing Club, we have been working hard on the Carnival progamme for 2023. We have reintroduced several handicaps which will hope will increase overseas participation and work well with the established group-race calendar.

This year's edition attracted a diverse buying bench of new and existing buyers. A colt by Curlin, consigned by Powerstown Stud, was purchased by Mohammed Al Subousi for AED2.5 million (€620,000) to top the sale. The average was AED609,412 (€158,000). Monday marked the first 2-year-old winner from the sale, the Dubawi (Ire) filly Dubai Jemila (GB). She ran out a half-length winner in the colours of Jaber Abdullah in an Ayr novice. The Kevin Ryan trainee was sold by Malcolm Bastard to Yousuf Salem Saeed Saqer Al Kaabi for AED1.4 million (€347,090).

The UAE's signature racecourse will kickstart its season on Nov. 4, the first of 21 meetings planned for the upcoming season. Next year marks the 20th edition of the DWCC, which starts on Jan. 6. Some tweaks to the programme include the addition of two new races: the $150,000 Thunder Snow Challenge over 2000 metres on dirt and the $150,000 Ipi Tombe S. on turf for fillies and mares over 1400 metres. There are also 20 $75,000 handicaps split evenly between dirt and turf, and the Jumeirah Turf Series for 3-year-olds will also return for its second season. Super Saturday will take place on Mar. 4, and the seasonal finale, the $30.5-million Dubai World Cup night programme, is scheduled for the evening of Mar. 25.

Held during Dubai World Cup week, the sale will have a maximum size of 69 2-year-olds that will be sourced from vendors by Goffs which will appeal to both local and international buyers. All lots will undergo a full veterinary examination prior to departure to ensure full transparency and buyer confidence.

All of the juveniles will undergo quarantine in Dubai prior to the sale and gallop on the dirt track at Meydan on Mar. 23, 2022. There will be no official times for 2-year-olds, but instead they will be galloped on the bridle. Nominations for the sale will be open in due course, with stable visits taking place following the yearling sales season. The visits will be led by Nick Nugent and Tom Taaffe, the latter of whom brokered the deal on behalf of Goffs.
