Despite missing the final 13 racing days due to injury, David Cabrera earned his first Oaklawn Park riding title with 62 victories when the Arkansas track concluded its racing season Sunday. Cabrera was one win ahead of Francisco Arrieta and eight-time Oaklawn riding champion Ricardo Santana was third with 47 victories.

“This is a dream,” Cabrera said. “This is a dream and I really thank my agent. He's a very, very good agent. To me, having him is something very good. He's my secret weapon.”

Cabrera, who has spent the last few weeks recovering at his home in Jones, Oklahoma and is targeting a return to the saddle in late May at Lone Star Park, sustained head, neck and upper back injuries in an Apr. 8 spill, which occurred when his mount, Mostly Awesome, clipped heels in upper stretch and fell. Cabrera was unseated and tumbled hard to the ground. He said he has no memory of the accident.

“Actually, it's the like the last five days that I've started to feel normal,” Cabrera said. “Before that, I was having trouble with my senses. I was still acting a little weird. Everything, I think, has come back to normal.”

Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen won 65 races to capture his 12th Oaklawn training title. Asmussen had shared the record for most career Oaklawn training titles with the late Hall of Famer Henry Forrest. Asmussen (820) is poised to surpass the late Bob Holthus (867) as the winningest trainer in Oaklawn history at the 2022-2023 meeting.

John Ed Anthony topped all owners at the meeting in victories (19), purse earnings ($2,083,402) and stakes victories (five). Anthony set a single-season Oaklawn record for purse earnings. M and M Racing of Mike and Mickala Sisk set the previous mark ($1,782,351) in 2019. Anthony also surpassed the late Sharon Hild at the meet to become Oaklawn's all-time winningest owner. Anthony has 279 career Oaklawn victories, the first coming Feb. 16, 1972.

Oaklawn leading rider David Cabrera likely will miss the remainder of the 2021-2022 meeting after sustaining upper back, neck and head injuries from a spill in Friday's first race, his agent Joe Santos said.

Santos said Cabrera has compressed C5 and C6 vertebrae, crushed cheekbones and suffered a concussion in the accident, which occurred in the upper stretch after his mount Mostly Awesome (Fusaichi Pegasus) clipped heels when in tight and fell, throwing the jockey to the ground. A trailing horse jumped the fallen Mostly Awesome near the three-sixteenths pole, unseating apprentice jockey Chel-c Bailey. Both horses involved in the accident were captured without incident and with no initial signs of distress. Bailey wasn't seriously injured and fulfilled her remaining engagements on the card. Cabrera was unconscious for approximately 20 minutes post-fall.

“It's really kind of dependent on the cognitive aspect of it, when he kind of grasps everything mentally,” Santos said. “He's a lot more active today and it's mainly just from the concussion. There's just some confusion there.”

Cabrera was the runaway leader in the Oaklawn rider standings with 62 victories through Friday, Day 53 of the scheduled 66-day meeting. Francisco Arrieta was second with 49 victories, two more than Santana, an eight-time Oaklawn riding champion.

Keystone Racing LLC's Miss Mosaic rode off into the sunset with a victory in Saturday's $150,000 American Beauty Stakes at Oaklawn by closing out her career with a neck victory before 22,000 fans.

The 6-year-old daughter of Verrazano is now slated for retirement after getting her first stakes victory in the six-furlong race over Joy's Rocket. Ain't No Elmers finished third. Li'l Tootsie, the 2-1 favorite, finished sixth.

“The trainer told me to just try not to get into trouble,” said jockey David Cabrera of the instructions sent by Kentucky-based trainer Ben Colebrook. “Once I got her sitting comfortable, she was just relaxed, so I knew they were going to have a tough time catching us.”

<ins data-revive-zoneid="166" data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

Miss Mosaic brings a glittering pedigree to the breeding shed, joining two siblings with stakes wins on their resumes, including Miss Temple City a multiple Grade 1-winner. The victory snapped a three-race string of second-place finishes including a runner-up performance in the Mrs. Claus Stakes at Parx Racing last month.

“It's an amazing story,” said winning owner/breeder Aaron Jutte, who noted the mare will now be bred to top sire Tapit. “We had a lot of trouble with her, Miss Mosaic, in her early career and gave her a bunch of time off. As a single owner, you don't have to worry about partners at that point, so you can give her all the time off in the world you want. Just like 2-year-old stuff and so we just gave her, basically, her 2-year-old and halfway through her 3-year-old career off. She didn't make a start until she was at the end of her 3-year-old career.”

The filly Sarah Harper set the pace but gave way at the top of the stretch to Miss Mosaic. The field chased her home as she finished in 1:10 3/5 over a fast track. She returned $16.80, $8.20 and $5.40 at odds of 7-1.

Racing resumes Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. first post.

Danny Caldwell recorded his second career Oaklawn stakes victory Saturday and he used an old script to do it.

“Yeah, I guess so,” Oaklawn's four-time leading owner said. “That's probably not been done much.”

Caldwell struck again with millionaire Rated R Superstar ($53.80), who collared front-running Mucho on the outside near the wire to win the one-mile race for older horses by a neck under David Cabrera. Caldwell also won the 2017 Fifth Season with another 9-year-old gelding, Domain's Rap, who, like Rated R Superstar, was making his seasonal debut in the race.

<ins data-revive-zoneid="166" data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

On behalf of Caldwell, trainer Federico Villafranco claimed Domain's Rap and Rated R Superstar for $10,000 and $50,000, respectively, the latter coming last January at Oaklawn.

“I was actually thinking about an allowance race for him this time, bringing him back off a layoff,” Caldwell said. “But he was doing so good and Freddy told me: 'He's doing as good as he's ever been doing in our barn, coming off the layoff.' He was fresh and seemed like he was ready.”

Rated R Superstar hadn't started since finishing second in a Sept. 11 allowance race at Remington Park. Caldwell said the gelding came out of the race with a minor splint bone issue, necessitating a short break from training. Rated R Superstar had five published workouts since Dec. 2, the last two coming at Oaklawn, in advance of the Fifth Season.

Last entering the backstretch, Rated R Superstar zoomed past most of the field along the rail to reach contention at the half-mile pole. Rated R Superstar had to wait briefly on the second turn before Cabrera guided the gelding to the outside, three-wide, approaching the quarter-pole. Rated R Superstar wore down a stubborn Mucho in the short run to the wire (mile races at Oaklawn begin and end at the sixteenth pole).

Rated R Superstar's winning time of 1:37.16 was the fastest since the Fifth Season was shortened from 1 1/16 miles to a mile in 2020, when the race was split. Rated R Superstar ran sixth in the second division in 2020. The track was fast Saturday.

“The pace set up well for us and he's a late runner,” Caldwell said. “David made a good move on the backside here to get him up in there. We didn't want to get shuffled back and end up going 15-wide. So, he made that move up the rail and I'm thinking, 'I hope we didn't move too quick.' But I could tell he still had some horse. Luckily, they kept going and we had an opportunity down the stretch to run them down.”

The victory was the 10th in 57 lifetime starts for Rated R Superstar and raised his career earnings to $1,271,014. He is a five-time stakes winner.

Rated R Superstar has been an ATM throughout his lengthy career, bankrolling $518,367 and becoming a multiple Grade 3 winner in his first 30 starts for trainer Kenny McPeek. Rated R Superstar made 18 starts for trainer Cipriano Contreras after being claimed for $62,500 in November 2018 at Churchill Downs.

Highlighted by a victory in the $350,000 Essex Handicap for older horses in 2019 at Oaklawn, the gelding earned $363,656 before Contreras lost him to Caldwell almost a year ago. In nine starts for Caldwell and Villafranco, Rated R Superstar has made $388,991 and posted three victories, including the $175,000 Governor's Cup Stakes Aug. 20 at Remington Park.

“Amazing,” Caldwell said.

Oaklawn's two-turn stakes series for older horses continues with the $600,000 Razorback Handicap (G3) at 1 1/16 miles Feb. 12. Rated R Superstar has already started four times in the Razorback, finishing sixth for McPeek in 2018, third for Contreras in 2019, seventh for Contreras in 2020 and fifth for Villafranco last year.

“We'll see,” Caldwell said of another potential Razorback start. “He'll tell us.”

Rated R Superstar is a son of 2008 Oaklawn allowance winner and 2009 champion sprinter Kodiak Kowboy.

The 9-year-old gelding Rated R Superstar proved age is just a number in Saturday's $150,000 Fifth Season Stakes at Oaklawn Park, springing a 25-1 upset with his neck triumph over pacesetting Mucho (7-1). The victory brought a bit of déjà vu for owner Danny Caldwell, who sent out Domain's Rap to win the 2017 edition of the Fifth Season when that gelding was nine years old. Both geldings are trained by Federico Villafranco.

“Just because they're eight or nine years old, doesn't mean they can't still run,” Caldwell said from the winner's circle.

Rated R Superstar was making his first start since September, and made a mid-race move from off-the-pace under jockey David Cabrera. Finding clear racing room in the center of the stretch, the son of Kodiak Kowboy ran down Mucho to complete a mile over the fast main track in 1:37.16. Thomas Shelby checked in third.

<ins data-revive-zoneid="166" data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

Sent to post as the 3-2 favorite, 2021 Rebel Stakes winner Concert Tour appeared to struggle around the far turn and was eased under the wire by jockey Joel Rosario. It was the colt's first start since the Preakness, as well as his first since being transferred to trainer Brad Cox.

Mucho, making his first start around two turns, went straight to the lead in the Fifth Season, pulling away to lead by as much as 1 1/2 lengths in the early going. Concert Tour was right there in second, tracking through fractions of 23.33 and 46.91 seconds, while Thomas Shelby came up the rail to join him down the backstretch.

Cabrera found a seam at the rail and sent Rated R Superstar through it midway down the backstretch, and brought the gelding into third on the inside. Thomas Shelby was challenging Mucho for the lead, while Concert Tour dropped back. Mucho repelled Thomas Shelby, but there was another challenger yet to come.

Swinging to the outside, Rated R Superstar saw the finish line and laid his ears back, eating up ground in the center of the track. Cabrera hit the wire a neck in front on Rated R Superstar, with Mucho and jockey Florent Geroux having to settle for second. Thomas Shelby was a close-up third, while it was several lengths back to Necker Island in fourth.

The remaining order of finish was: Silver Prospector, Snapper Sinclair, Atoka, Long Range Toddy, and Concert Tour.

Bred in Kentucky by Thorndale Stable L.L.C., Rated R Superstar was a $50,000 claim last January at Oaklawn. He's compiled a record of three wins, three seconds, and a third from nine starts for his new connections.

Rated R Superstar has significant back-class: he ran second in the G3 Iroquois and third in the G1 Breeders' Futurity in 2015, won the G3 Carry Back in 2016, the G3 Ben Ali in 2018, the $350,000 Essex in 2019, and the $175,000 Governor's Cup in 2021. Overall, the gelding has won 10 races from 57 starts and earned $1,271,014

Jockey David Cabrera was honored Thursday night, winning his fourth consecutive Pat Steinberg Leading Rider award at Remington Park.

Cabrera had long since clinched the riding title as he finished the night with 90 wins on the season, 31 ahead of second-place Stewart Elliott at 59.

“I want to thank all the trainers and owners who give me a chance; I want to thank God and Remington Park and my agent Jose Santos,” Cabrera said. “This is home. I feel like I'm with family. It is an honor to ride here. I also want to thank all the grooms, hotwalkers and gate crew. They all do a great job.”

<ins data-revive-zoneid="166" data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

Cabrera's biggest night of the meet came on Nov. 13 when he won five races, including the 1,500th of his career. He took five of the nine races on the card that night. His winners were Quinn Ella (6-5) in the first, Mr B Quiet (3-1) in the fourth, Fred'stwirlincandy (2-1) in the sixth, Bobbin Tail (even) in the seventh and My Golden M (2-5) in the ninth for the 1,500th in his career.

Another highlight of Cabrera's fourth title in a row included riding Welder to his final win at Remington Park, the 16th such victory for the now retired all-time winningest horse here. Welder, owned by Ra-Max Farms (Clayton Rash) of Claremore, Okla., and trained by Teri Luneack, only won one race this meet but it was a significant one as he broke the tie of 15 wins all-time with Highland Ice and Elegant Exxactsy. Cabrera booted the 8-year-old gray gelding home on Aug. 27 in Welder's first start of the season.

The most wins Cabrera ever had in one meet at Remington Park during this skein was 96 last year. The 29-year-old jockey came to Jones, Okla., to live with his aunt Marti Rodriguez, a trainer at Remington Park, when he was 14 years old, moving from Mexico. He worked his way up from mucking stalls to becoming a jockey in 2013. He had 46 wins to start his career that year.

Cabrera's best year thus far was 2018 when he won 236 times. He has 216 wins thus far in 2021. In his nine-year riding career, he has won 1,526 times for earnings of $35,348,847, according to Equibase stats. His best year in horse earnings has been this year with $7,646,957.He has averaged $6,834 per start this year, compared to $1,372 per start in 2013 when he began.

The leading jockey award is named after Pat Steinberg who was a dominating jockey in the early years of Remington Park, winning nine riding titles before passing away in 1993.

There is only one more day of racing at Remington Park on Friday, Dec. 17. The final night of the season includes the cornerstone race for 2-year-olds at Remington Park, the $400,000 Springboard Mile, with horses eligible for Kentucky Derby points. It goes as the 12th race on Friday. The other stakes are:

Race 8, $70,000 Jim Thorpe Stakes, 3-year-olds, 1 mile (Oklahoma-breds)

Race 9, $70,000 Useeit Stakes, 3-year-old fillies, 1 mile (Oklahoma-breds)

Race 10, $100,000 She's All In Stakes, 3-year-olds and older, fillies-mares, 1m-70 yds
Race 11, $100,000 Trapeze Stakes, fillies, 2-year-olds, 1 mile

The last night of the season gets underway at 5pm-Central.

Agent Joe Santos has been on the backside this week at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., laying the groundwork for David Cabrera's chase to win his first local riding title after finishing second to perennial champion Ricardo Santana Jr. in 2018 and 2021.

<ins data-revive-zoneid="166" data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

“That's what we're here for,” Santos said during training hours Monday morning. “That's our goal again this year. We're here to try to win the meet. Every meet we go to, that's kind of a goal. That's what he does. He wins a lot of races. We're always trying to win more than anybody else.”

Cabrera is now based at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Okla., where he is the runaway leader in the standings. Although Remington's meet ends Dec. 17, Santos said Cabrera only will miss one racing day next month at Oaklawn, which opens its expanded 66-day live season Dec. 3. Oaklawn's earliest meet opening in history will feature 10 December racing dates, all Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Santos said Cabrera will ride at Remington on Oaklawn's off days. The only racing day Cabrera is scheduled to miss at Oaklawn is Dec. 17, when the jockey returns to Remington for its stakes-heavy card, highlighted by the $400,000 Springboard Mile for 2-year-olds.

“We've got the favorite in all five stakes, it looks like,” Santos said. “Can't miss that.”

Following a one-year absence, Cabrera set single-season personal local bests for mounts (377), victories (62), and purse earnings ($3,395,649) during the 2021 Oaklawn meeting that ended in May. Cabrera won two stakes – $150,000 King Cotton for older sprinters aboard Boldor for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen and the $150,000 Rainbow Miss for 3-year-old Arkansas-bred female sprinters aboard Hillary G. The Rainbow Miss was the first career stakes victory for trainer Tommy Vance of Hot Springs.

Cabrera then finished second-leading rider at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, and had 83 victories at Remington Park, through Thursday, to surpass 1,500 for his career. Cabrera also cracked $7 million in purse earnings for the first time in his career in 2021.

“He knows how to win,” Santos said.

Coinciding with Oaklawn's December opening is a truncated race week, with racing normally conducted Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in 2021-2022. Normally, Cabrera is among the most active jockeys on the grounds.

“Honestly, with the way our business is set up, it seems like a good thing for us,” Santos said. “Thus far, we've got a lot of business with a lot of people we're hoping to ride for and given us some calls. I'm not necessarily sure how it plays out for everybody else, but from our standpoint, I think it's looking pretty good.”

Santos said he believes Cabrera's prominent training clients will include Ron Moquett of Hot Springs, Kenny McPeek, and John Ortiz.

“David, he's never really angered anyone that I know of, so I feel like we can ride for everybody,” Santos said. “That's kind of the goal. Just to try to ride the right horses in the right races and try to keep everybody happy. They know that they're going to get effort from him. From me, I'm going to try and be as prepared as possible on knowing what's going in what races. Hopefully, it just leads to a lot of success.”

Cabrera rode 43 winners at Oaklawn in 2018, his Hot Springs debut, and 12 in 2019 before wintering at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston, Texas in 2020.

Santos also will represent 2021 Prairie Meadows leading apprentice Kylee Jordan during the 2021-2022 Oaklawn meeting and said he hopes to lure another journeyman, a nationally prominent rider, to Hot Springs in January.

Cabrera and Jordan are among seven jockeys across the country Santos represents in late November.

Three-time top rider at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Okla., David Cabrera, continues to etch his name in the jockey annals here with five wins on Saturday night, reaching the milestone of 1,500 victories in his career in the process.

<ins data-revive-zoneid="166" data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

Cabrera hit that magic mark when he won the final race of the night on a nine-race card, momentarily checking in the stretch before blasting through a hole down the lane aboard heavy 2-5 wagering favorite My Golden M ($2.80 to win). That gave him five wins for the evening, and 1,500 in his career.

Cabrera has won Remington Park riding titles the past three years, 2018-2020, and is well on his way to his fourth consecutive trophy. His five trips to the winner's circle on Saturday night gave him 69 for the meet. He now leads Stewart Elliott, in second place, with 46 wins.

Cabrera bookended the card with a win in the first race booting home Quinn Ella ($4.40) at 1-1/8th miles on the turf. The 4-year-old filly, owned by Joe Castillo of Porter, Texas, and trained by Ronnie Cravens III, took the opener by three-quarters of a length at 6-5 odds. The race was for 3-year-olds and older in second-level allowance conditions.

The second Cabrera win of the night did not come until the fourth race when he smiled for the camera after Mr B Quiet ($8.80) broke his maiden by eight lengths at 3-1 odds. The 2-year-old gelding by Mr. Besilu, out of the Quiet American mare Bin Quiet, was the most impressive winner for Cabrera, pulling away at the end, beating the bunch of $7,500 maiden claimers by a city block. He is owned by Linda and Michael Mazoch and Austin Gustafson, who also trains that winner.

Cabrera then won the sixth, seventh, and ninth races to complete his huge run. He had mounts in eight of nine races Saturday night. His winner in the sixth was Fred'stwirlincandy ($6.40), who won for the second outing in a row. The 6-year-old gelded son of Twirling Candy, out of the Wimbledon mare Daphne Angela, is one of the most versatile runners at Remington Park, winning on a muddy main track Oct. 27, and then taking to the lawn to win Saturday against $25,000 claimers over the turf course. He went off at 2-1 odds and won by 1-1/4 lengths. Cabrera rode him in both victories. It was his second win of the night for Cravens III. This winner is owned by Jeffrey Hoffman of Wichita Falls, Texas.

The young rider from Jones, Okla., was on fire at this point, taking down the seventh race with Bobbin Tail ($4), the prohibitive even-money favorite. That 3-year-old filly by Tale of Ekati out of the Indian Charlie mare Bobbin' Robin, was one of Cabrera's closest calls of the night, beating conditional allowance horses at the mile distance by a mere neck. In fact, there was an objection made by second-place finisher Itsallinthenotes' jockey, Jose Medina, but the stewards ruled there would be no change. Itsallinthenotes was trying to pull off the major upset as she went off at 74-1 odds, the longest shot by far in the field. Cabrera rode this winner for owner Dream Walkin Farms (Toby Keith) of Norman, Okla. The filly is trained by Kenny Smith.

Cabrera closed out the night with the final trip to the winner's circle aboard My Golden M, a 4-year-old gelding by My Golden Song, out of the Early Flyer mare Early M. She is owned by Kathy Stephens of La Verna, Texas. His chances of getting that fifth win on the night and 1,500th of his career seemed almost inevitable riding this horse at 2-5 odds. It was also the second victory for the top jock by the length of a neck. Cabrera had to ride hard in this spot after being shuffled back and being pulled out wide to rally down the middle of the track. The winner is trained by Hector Echeverria.

Cabrera began his North American riding career in 2013 with 46 wins. His best year thus far was 2018 when he won 236 times. This year has been his top year for horses' earnings starting Saturday night at $6,876,135 from 987 starts for an average earnings mark of $6,967 per start. That compares to 2013 when his horses earned an average $1,372 per start.

The total career earnings for Cabrera, from 8,528 starts tops $34.6 million.

Remington Park racing continues next week with a new schedule. Monday and Tuesday racing in the afternoons gets underway for four weeks, beginning Nov. 15 & 16. The first post time is set for 2:30 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays. Each week will conclude with night racing on Fridays and Saturdays, with a regular first post of 7:07 pm. All times are Central.

<ins data-revive-zoneid="166" data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

Clary's El Pando stayed undefeated and unchallenged, winning the $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes in the colt's second start by open daylight. The 2-year-old Kentucky-bred colt by Outwork, from the Speightstown mare Queen Negwer, had broken his maiden just as impressively by 8-3/4 lengths on Sept. 15.

Neatherlin, a strong presence as a trainer in the Southwest since the 1990s, passed away this September at 65 years of age from COVID-19 complications. As a conditioner, he had, at one point, co-owned and trained Kip Deville, the all-time winningest Oklahoma-bred racehorse in history. Kip Deville, who was a champion horse, retired with $3,325,489 in his bankroll and won the 2007 Breeders' Cup Mile at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey. Now, Neatherlin's daughter may have a horse that ends up pretty special as well and her father had a little something to do with it.

“My dad bought El Pando when he was a yearling (for $10,000 from the Fasig-Tipton Yearling Sale in 2020),” said Clary, of Brock, Texas. “We put him back in the Texas Thoroughbred Association 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale and then Dad said, 'We're not going to sell him.'”

Neatherlin knew he was special and Clary's disappointment for not selling the colt has quickly changed to joy as El Pando may have punched his ticket to the $400,000 Springboard Mile on Dec. 17 at Remington Park.

“We're certainly looking for something bigger,” said Clary. “He rose to the occasion tonight and exceeded all expectations.”

Remington's three-time leading rider David Cabrera could not hold his excitement in after the race, especially for Clary and her dad's decision to keep the horse.

“Thank you, Mr. Mike!” Cabrera shouted as he pointed to the sky.

Clary has started her training career with 16 starters this meet, winning four, running second four times, and once third. Her horses have earned $164,135. Not bad for a fledgling conditioner.

El Pando's victory was a strong one, hitting the wire 3-3/4 lengths in front as the 9-5 second wagering favorite in the field of nine juveniles. Two longshots closed the gap in the seven-furlong race as Revenir (34-1) and Kentucky Bourbon (34-1) picked up the pieces in the final strides to run second and third, respectively. Revenir finished two lengths ahead of Kentucky Bourbon. The 6-5 betting favorite Concept checked in fourth, another 3-1/4 lengths back.

Clary owns and trains El Pando, who earned $60,000 for the win Friday night, increasing his earnings to $79,545.

El Pando covered the seven-eighths of a mile in 1:24.13 over a fast track, sitting fourth most of the way before making his move in the stretch.

“I wanted to see how he handled the dirt in the face and he was a pro,” said Cabrera. “Pulling out wide, he handled it all.”

It was the third win in the Clever Trevor Stakes for Cabrera. He also made trips to the winner's circle with U.S. Officer in 2016 and Redatory in 2017. This was Clary's first stakes victory at Remington Park. She had run second in the $130,000 David Vance Stakes on Sept. 26 with Mr. Money Bags.

El Pando showed his talent, doing all the running on his own before Cabrera finally tapped him when he drew clear with about 70 yards to go. The early fractions, set first buy Malibu Thunder and then Concept, were honest with the first quarter-mile in :22.11, the half-mile in :45.23, and six furlongs in 1:10.67.

The colt's name means sagging in Spanish and Clary said he got his name because of his swayback.

Neatherlin finished his career with combined on-track Thoroughbred-Quarter Horse earnings surpassing $2.7 million. He saddled a combined 186 winning racehorses. Clary is well on her way to paying strong tribute to her father's memory with a tremendous start to her own career.

The Clever Trevor Stakes is named after the legendary Oklahoma-bred millionaire who won the inaugural Oklahoma Derby in 1989 along with multiple graded stakes events in his career, while accumulating over a million dollars in earnings. A statue of Clever Trevor stands in the middle of the Remington Park paddock walking ring.

Remington Park racing continues Saturday, Oct. 30 with nine races. The first will be underway at 7:07 pm Central.

Trainer C.R. Trout won the $175,000 Oklahoma Classics Cup, powered by TVG, with Absaroka on Friday night, his seventh win of this race in the past nine years.

<ins data-revive-zoneid="166" data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

It helps when you have an Oklahoma-bred millionaire like Shotgun Kowboy win it four times, but Trout has dominated in this spot. Shotgun Kowboy won it in 2015 and 2017-2019. His other winner was Imahit in back-to-back years, 2013 and 2014.

It was Absaroka's third win in a row at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Okla., as he broke like a rocket with his early speed on the rail under jockey David Cabrera, who won this race for the fourth time. The gelding's first two wins of the meet were not against stakes company, however. Still, Absaroka went off the even-money favorite and cruised to a 4-1/4 lengths victory in wire-to-wire fashion. Cabrera also won this race in the saddle of Phantom Trip in 2016 and Shotgun Kowboy's last two wins in the Cup.

Running time for the 1-1/16th miles was 1:43.19 over the fast track. Absaroka, a 5-year-old gelding by Flat Out, from the Brahms mare Wanton Song, made every pole a winning one. He set fractions of :24.10 for the quarter-mile, :48.45 for the half-mile, 1:12.62 for six furlongs, and 1:36.97 for the mile. He was bred by owner Cowboy Stables (Blake Sappington) of Clinton, Okla.

“This horse is so easy to train,” said Trout, who picked up his 14th career Oklahoma Classics win with Absaroka. “He's had a couple of hiccups along the way and I have to give it up to the owner because they gave us the money to straighten him out and we have worked the problems out.”

Cabrera was so grateful for more than Trout putting him on Absaroka.

“I've known C.R. Trout probably the longest of anyone here,” Cabrera said. “He's the first person I knew here when I came (in 2015). I'm so happy he gave me the opportunity on this horse. He went to the lead and I had so much horse left in the end.”

Absaroka paid $4, $2.20, and $2.10 across the board. Number One Dude (6-5) reported in second and was seven lengths ahead of third-place finisher Dont Tell Noobody (5-1), who was the defending champion in this race. The remaining order of finish was United Patriot (4th), Tonaltalitarian (5th), and Great Faces (6th).

Absaroka earned $105,000 with his trip to the winner's circle and improved his record to 17 starts, five wins, four seconds, and one third, almost doubling his lifetime earnings in this race. He now has $214,317 overall.

The Oklahoma Classics is a $1,000,000 series of stakes races devoted to Oklahoma-bred Thoroughbreds.

Remington Park racing continues Saturday, Oct. 16 with the first race at 7:07 pm Central.
