Write the Check [No. 1A, $22.80] surged to victory under Luis Rodriguez Castro for trainer Bruce Brown in Race 5, a one-turn mile maiden claiming event for state-bred sophomore fillies.

The parade of longshots continued in Race 6 with Forty Two Ace [No. 6, $30.20] splashing to victory in a one-mile starter allowance for older horses under Mike Luzzi for owner-trainer Charlton Baker and was followed by Gallina [No. 7, $12] rallying to win a starter allowance for older fillies and mares in Race 7 for Trevor McCarthy and owner-trainer Jimmy Bond.

With the double Pick 6 carryover already confirmed, Incontrovertible [No. 10, $12.20] closed out the sequence in Race 9 for jockey Carol Cedeno and trainer Edward Allard in the one-turn mile maiden claiming event for older state-bred fillies and mares.

The Pick 6 sequence began on Thursday in Race 3 when Anything Pazible [No. 1, $33.20] upset a state-bred allowance for 3-year-olds and up at odds of 15-1 under Jacqueline Davis for trainer Eduardo Jones.

The Robert Falcone, Jr.-trained Hoopla [No. 2, $3.30] provided the only win by a favorite on the card in Race 4, bounding away to a 2 ¾-length claiming victory with apprentice rider Christian Ramos up to give Falcone, Jr. his first of two wins on the card.

Inevtabl Conection [No. 2, $7] was ridden by Kendrick Carmouche to his first victory in an open company maiden special weight in Race 5 for trainer Steve Klesaris. Air Show [No. 3, $15] then earned his first win against winners when he took Race 6, a $25,000 claimer, for trainer Tom Morley and jockey Trevor McCarthy.

Falcone, Jr.'s second win of the day came when Maiden Beauty [No. 2, $8.60] won the second stakes of her career in Race 7, the Bay Ridge for state-bred fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.

The Juan Vazquez-trained Esor [No. 3, $14.20] triggered the double carryover with a mild upset in the nightcap at odds of 6-1 to break his maiden with Eric Cancel aboard.

While the worldwide pandemic continued its grip on society over the last 12 months, The Meadowlands managed to make the best of 2021 and will conclude the year Friday (Dec. 31) night with a 14-race program that features not one, but two carryovers sure to entice The Big M faithful, who will have gone 12 days without action at the mile oval when the first race gets underway at 6:20 p.m.

There's an added bonus. Beginning at 6 p.m., on-track guests can receive a free 2022 calendar filled with photos of the equine stars of 2021.

The Meadowlands will race this Friday, and go dark on Saturday, Jan. 1, before gearing up for its usual Friday-Saturday schedule, effective Jan. 7.

After zero favorites managed to win any of the races in the sequence, the 20-cent Pick-5 failed to yield a winning ticket when the last race card took place on Dec. 18, creating a carryover of $38,923 for this Friday.

Big M fans figure to fire away, since all of the Pick-5 races – as well as 13 of the 14 races on the night – will sport full 10-horse fields.

<ins data-revive-zoneid=23 data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

<ins data-revive-zoneid=177 data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

This will be the first Pick-5 carryover since January 2, when the final pool was a massive $360,948.

This time around the final pool is estimated to reach $150,000 and the bet – as always – sports a low 15 percent takeout. A negative takeout pool – where the return to bettors is greater than the “new money” that will be pushed through the windows – looms.

Big M TV's Dave Brower and Jessica Otten will take an extended look at the Pick-5 and give out tickets during the pre-game show.

The 20-cent Pick-6 also failed to yield a winning ticket on Dec. 18, and that pool will begin with $6,131 in the hat. The last Pick-6 to see a carryover was on Dec. 17 when the total pool was $55,626. That figure figures to be much higher this time around.

The last day of the year will mark the end of a good 12-month run for the track, from a business perspective anyway.

“New Year's Eve marks one of the greatest comeback stories in Meadowlands history,” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “We have been able to overcome the pandemic as our faithful followers have our average nightly handle at $3 million.

“Our four big days of racing – the Hambletonian, Breeders Crown, Meadowlands Pace and Fall Final Four/TVG Finals were all highly successful. On Hambletonian Day, we wagered $6.4 million to end our Winter-Spring-Championship Meeting with an average handle of $3.3 million per card.”

In addition, annual total handle at The Meadowlands has increased over $100 million as compared to just three years ago.

New Year's Eve at The Big M will offer great racing. And a whole lot more.

“The Big M offers a great party with great food, along with wagering on a big carryover as well as the College Football Playoff in our FanDuel Sportsbook,” said Settlemoir. “After the races, we will close out 2021 with a huge fireworks display to ring in the New Year. The Meadowlands promises to be one of the most exciting New Year's Eve venues in the Metropolitan area with an incredible evening of non-stop action Friday night.”

GET SOCIAL: Everything Meadowlands is available by going on Twitter. You can check in with the Big M team for early changes, racing information and staff selections by going to @themeadowlands or #playbigm.

On race nights, stay in touch with Otten (@JessicaOtten1), Brower (@eedoogie), Dave Little (@DaveLittleBigM), Ken Warkentin (@kenvoiceover), Shades (@ShadesOnRacing) and Edison Hatter (@Edison_1999_).

NEW YEAR'S EVE IN PINK: A great way to spend New Year's Eve is in Pink Restaurant at The Meadowlands.

There is a sumptuous buffet available for $64.95 and includes a complimentary glass of celebratory champagne for those 21 years of age and older.

Reservations can be made by calling 201-THE-BIGM.

BET THE CFP AT THE FDS: They'll be plenty of action for horseplayers on the New Year's Eve card at The Meadowlands, but they'll also be plenty of action for college gridiron fans as well, as the College Football Playoff will take place with a pair of games certain to take tons of play. The winners of the semifinal tilts will meet for the National Championship on Jan. 10.

So, you want to bet on the games? You can do so inside the grandstand at The Big M in the FanDuel Sportsbook.

The first semifinal gets underway at 3:30 p.m., where the Crimson Tide of Alabama are a 13½-point favorite over the Bearcats of Cincinnati. Alabama is -590 on the money line and the under/over is 57.

In the late game – which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. – the Georgia Bulldogs are a 7½-point choice over the Michigan Wolverines. Georgia is -280 on the money line and the under/over is 45½.

New Year's Day (Jan. 1) will see many college bowl games, followed the following day (Jan. 2) by Week 17 of the National Football League with many games having playoff implications.

Watch and wager on all the games in the FanDuel Sportsbook, where the hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-1 a.m.; Friday 10 a.m.-2 a.m.; Saturday 7 a.m.-2 a.m. and Sunday 8 a.m.-12 a.m.

Friday's sequence began in Race 3 when My Roxy Girl [No. 5, $4.90] romped in a seven-furlong claimer for state-bred fillies and mares under Jose Ortiz to give trainer Juan Vazquez his second of four wins on the card.

The Horacio Depaz-trained Amity Island [No. 2, $17.20] got her head down just in time to win Race 6 under Kendrick Carmouche, a one-mile allowance for New York-bred fillies and mares 3 years old and up. Ruben Silvera guided Repo Rocks [No. 3, $7.20] to a flying finish to secure a 6 ½-furlong allowance win in Race 7 to give Vazquez another victory.

With only two horses covered in the finale [No. 6, Bohemian Ruby; No. 8, Bail Out the Bank] in Race 8, El Mayor [No. 9, $7] gave Vazquez a late double with an impressive one-mile state-bred maiden claiming win under Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano.

Lost My Sock [No.1, $104.50], sent to post at odds of 51-1 under Raul Mena for trainer Derek Ryan, wore down Glitter Up in deep stretch to win Race 6, a six-furlong outer turf sprint for maiden juvenile fillies.

The streak of longshots continued in Race 7, a six-furlong optional-claiming sprint for state-bred 3-year-olds and up, with Saratoga Pal [No. 4, $40.40] rallying wide down the lane to win at odds of 19-1 as the longest shot in the seven-horse field.
The $1 Pick 6 returned $504.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

Thursday's sequence kicked off in Race 4 with Radio Days [No. 4, $2.50] impressing as the mutuel favorite in a seven-furlong allowance optional claiming sprint for juvenile fillies under Dylan Davis for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey.

Sandrone [No. 5, $6.60], the 2-1 public choice, captured Race 5 with Luis Saez up for H. James Bond in a six-furlong outer turf sprint for New York-bred juveniles before Electric Youth [No. 5, $23.40] spiced up the sequence at odds of 10-1 with Saez up for Rudy Rodriguez in Race 6. Saez completed a natural hat trick by winning Race 7 with the Bond-trained Reckless Spirit [No. 7, $16].

Space Launch [No. 2, $21] found the wire in time to win Race 8, a 1 1/16-mile outer turf allowance, with Manny Franco up for Christophe Clement.

With only two horses uncovered in the Pick 6 to close out the sequence in Race 9, the Kelly Breen-conditioned Courvoisier [No. 10, $30] staved off Perfect Fight to secure the carryover in the nine-furlong maiden tilt for 2-year-olds.

For the next two weeks, they'll be an extra night of racing at The Meadowlands for fans to enjoy, and as an added bonus, when live action takes place Thursday (Dec. 2) evening, they'll be a pot of gold waiting for players.

The 20-cent Pick-6 pool will be overflowing since the bet failed to yield a winning ticket last weekend (Nov. 26-27), so there is a carryover of $20,096 heading into Thursday's card. The Pick-6 will span races four through nine. Free past performances are always available for all Meadowlands programs by going to playmeadowlands.com.

<ins data-revive-zoneid=23 data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

<ins data-revive-zoneid=177 data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

Some simple mathematics tell us why carryovers like these present a remarkable opportunity for bettors. To begin with, the carryover is not subject to the takeout. If the wager takes in $30,000 of “new money”, $4,500 would be removed for the “rake”, which would leave $45,500 in the total pool, a return to the player of 151 per cent instead of the normal 85.

“This is a traditional, non-jackpot Pick-6,” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “So that just sweetens the pot for the educated horseplayers. The wager is priced with a low 15 per cent takeout and has a low base bet of 20 cents. Players will also love that there will be a negative takeout if the final Pick-6 pool is under $150,000. From a wagering standpoint, it just doesn't get any better than this.”

The Late Pick 5, a 50-cent minimum bet, begins in Race 5 and ends in the final race of the day, Race 9. The lineup of races features a pair of allowance events and attracts 42 entrants, equating to 8.4 horses per race.

<ins data-revive-zoneid=23 data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

<ins data-revive-zoneid=177 data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

Post time for the first leg of the Late Pick 5 sequence is 2:43 PM PT. In the fifth race, grass routers voyage one mile and a sixteenth on projected firm going.

Race 6, the second leg of the Late Pick 5, is for hard-knocking filly and mare sprinters.

Race 7 is a competitive heat, with Lagatha inheriting the status as the 3-1 morning line favorite in a field of 10.

Turf sprinters dash five furlongs in the co-featured eighth race, another allowance event, and the well-bred Silver Claim looks to extend his unbeaten record in Northern California to 5 wins from 5 starts for leading conditioner Jonathan Wong.

The last leg of the sequence, Race 9, is a wide-open affair to end the day. The 7-2 morning line favorite is Awesome Dude, ridden by leading jockey Pedro Terrero.

Friday's program also features two additional carryovers: a Rolling Super High Five carryover of $11,583 scheduled for the first race, and a Golden Pick 6 jackpot carryover of $16,928 beginning in Race 4. First post on Friday is 12:45 PM.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $178.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

Thursday's Pick 6 sequence kicked off in Race 4 when Jose Lezcano engineered a winning trip aboard the Mike Maker-trained Voliero [No. 9, $14.80], who came from last-to-first to earn a second victory in 14 starts for a $30,000 tag.

Robert Evans homebred New Ginya [No. 11, $24.40] made her career debut a winning one for trainer Christophe Clement in Race 5, covering 1 1/16 miles over the inner turf. Dylan Davis piloted the winning trip aboard the daughter of Tonalist.

The shortest price in the sequence took place in the middle leg in Race 6, when Saratoga Beauty [No. 7, $3.30] earned her fifth career win while running for a $20,000 tag for trainer Rob Atras.

Dancing Buck [No. 5, $7] narrowly secured a third career win in Race 7, holding off Phantom Smoke in the final strides for trainer Michelle Nevin against his New York-bred counterparts.

Thomas Coleman and Doheny Racing Stable's Grape Nuts Warrior [No. 8, $5.80] defeated winners in Race 8 for trainer Chad Brown. The New York-bred son of Vancouver was ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the 1 1/16-mile allowance optional claimer on the inner turf.

Closing out the sequence in Race 9 was Vision Board [No. 12, $12.20]. The Saffie Joseph, Jr.-trainee was one of seven horses uncovered in the seven-furlong maiden claiming tilt. Dylan Davis provided the winning trip to secure a riding double on the card.
