A $700,000 Keeneland September purchase by Willis Horton Racing and trained by Eddie Milligan Jr., WILL TAKE IT (Tapit) is the first to the post out of unraced Lady Take Charge (War Front).

The latter was the top-priced foal at the 2015 Keeneland November Sale when she was hammered down to Whisper Hill Farm for $3.2 million. Eclipse Award winner Take Charge Brandi (Giant's Causeway), a daughter of Lady Take Charge's half-sister Charming (Seeking the Gold), was the overall topper when sold to John Sikura and Hill 'n' Dale Equine for $6 million.

Last year, Lady Take Charge produced a full-sister to Will Take It, who went to Sinandigan Stable at the Keeneland September Sale for $1.3 million.

The extended female family runs through influential second dam MGISW Take Charge Lady (Dehere), who is responsible for GI Florida Derby champ Take Charge Indy (A.P. Indy), Horton's champion 3-year-old colt Will Take Charge (Unbridled's Song), GI Beholder Mile winner As Time Goes By (American Pharoah), and Take Charge Brandi's half-brother and top-five first-crop sire Omaha Beach (War Front). TJCIS PPS

5th-AQU, $85K, Msw, 2yo, 1m, 2:14 p.m. ET
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Don Alberto and Bridlewood Farm homebred Carolo Rapido (Curlin) is out of GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Cathryn Sophia (Street Boss). She was a Blandford Bloodstock buy last year during Fasig-Tipton's Fall Mixed Sale for $1.2 million while in-foal to Gun Runner. TJCIS PPS

6th-OP, $115K, Msw, 2yo, 6f, 3:50 p.m. ET.
SF Bloodstock bred Guarani (Speightstown), who will be making his first start for Three Chimneys Farm after they purchased him for $425,000 at Keeneland September. The Steve Asmussen trainee is out of MGSP Czechers (Indian Charlie), who also produced his full-brother, G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen S. hero Switzerland. TJCIS PPS

At last year's Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale, trainer Bob Baffert with agent Donato Lanni bid to $1.8 million to secure NAFISA (Quality Road) on behalf of an undisclosed client who turned out to be Zedan Racing.

Consigned by Lane's End (hip 213), the auction's overall third topper was bred by Greg Goodman's Mt. Brilliant Farm & Ranch and Lane's End's W. S. Farish. It was Goodman who purchased her SP dam Ithinkisawapudycat (Bluegrass Cat) for $2.2 million in-foal to Constitution at the 2016 Keeneland November Sale.

A half-sister to Canadian champion Spring In The Air (Spring At Last), Ithinkisawapudycat's first offspring was 2016 GI Spinaway S. heroine Sweet Loretta (Tapit). She also produced SP Bridlewood Cat (Street Sense), a 2017 Keeneland September purchase for $750,000 by Bridlewood Farm, who herself foaled a yearling by Authentic, a weanling by Essential Quality and visited Tapit for next year.

George Isaacs, general manager of Ocala's Bridlewood Farm, has been reelected as the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association (FTBOA) president, according to a release put out by the organization Wednesday. Following the annual member meeting, the FTBOA held a board meeting and also named Rustlewood Farm's George Russell the first vice president, Summerfield's Francis Vanlangendonck the second vice president, Ocala Stud's Joseph M. O'Farrell as treasurer, and Nick de Meric, who operates de Meric Stables and Sales, as secretary.

“I have been fortunate to lead FTBOA at a time of legislative success that has been decades in the making, and at a time of innovation for the media division,” said Isaacs, who has served six terms on the FTBOA board with intermissions as required by bylaws. “I am proud of these accomplishments and thrilled the board has elected me again to continue my service as president for the Association and its members.”

Isaacs also chairs the Equine Studies Program at the College of Central Florida and the FTBOA Ocala Downtown Thoroughbred Walk of Fame committee, serves on the FTBOA Farmland Preservation Work Group, and serves on other boards.

In addition to the officers, the FTBOA updated board members. Milan Kosanovich and Vanlangendonck extended their terms on the board while Beckie Cantrell was named to the board for the first time. After an absence from the board due to term limits, past presidents Valerie Dailey and Brent Fernung rejoined the board. They will each serve a three-year term that will run through October 2026.

Leaving the board because of term limits were Bobby Jones and Dr. Fred Yutani, who served on the FTBOA board from October 2017 through October 2023; and Richard Kent, who served briefly, taking the seat left with the passing of board member and past president Fred Brei in March. Past president and director Dailey, as immediate past president, also serves as an executive committee member.

Other returning FTBOA board members include T. Paul Bulmahn, Jerry Campbell, Marilyn Campbell, Laurine Fuller-Vargas, Mike Hall, and Mary Lightner. Lonny Powell will continue as CEO and executive vice president.

2002 GI Belmont S. winner Sarava (Wild Again) has died at Old Friends. According to the preliminary report from Dr. Colton Thacker at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, he was euthanized due to complications from a leg fracture at the age of 24.

The dark bay was the first Classic winner to be retired to the farm Sept. 29, 2012, thanks to his owners, Gary Drake, and Paul and Susan Roy of Great Britain.

He upset the field of the 2002 GI Belmont S. at odds of 70-1, defeating Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado {Ire}) and Triple Crown contender War Emblem (Our Emblem).

Sarava concluded his racing career with a record of 17-3-3-0 and $773,832 in earnings and began his stud career in 2005 at Florida's division of Cloverleaf Farms before moving to the Kentucky division in 2007. In 2008, he returned to Florida to Bridlewood Farm where he remained for the rest of his stud career.

Pensioned in 2012, the then 13-year old stallion was donated to Old Friends and arrived at the farm Sept. 29, 2012.

“It's a sad day for our family and friends,” said owner Gary Drake when he heard the news. “We've all been Sarava fans since we met him in 2001. When you get into horse racing, you hope to have the opportunity to be involved with a horse like this. I mean it's cliche, but people say it all the time, they (the horses) take you places you would never go otherwise, and certainly Sarava did that for us.”

“Sarava attracted so many fans to Old Friends,” added Michael Blowen, President and founder of Old Friends. “Most recently, a horse player said he bought a condo in Ft. Myers with his winnings from that race. But, to us, he was a lot more than the longest shot in the history of the Belmont Stakes who defeated fellow Old Friends retiree, War Emblem. He was proud, independent and, in his way, very lovable. And you can't buy that… even at $142.50. We thank owner Gary Drake and friend Tom Bozarth for allowing us to care for Sarava for more than a decade.”

7th-FG, $50K, Msw, 3yo, 1 1/16mT, 5:15 p.m.

The latest foal out of Drumette, TAPTHEDRUM (Tapit) is a Bridlewood Farm homebred racing out of the Brad Cox barn. Bridlewood paid $1.85m for Drumette, the half-sister to GSW Drum Major and dam of dual champion Monomoy Girl (Tapizar) and GSW Mr. Monomoy (Palace Malice) out of the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Fall Mixed Sale. The grey colt has put in consistent works over the Fair Grounds surface and picks up Florent Geroux for his career debut.

One gate to his outside, Gettleman (Hard Spun) gets things rolling in the Godolphin blue for trainer Brendan Walsh. His third dam, MGISW Golden Ballet, produced GI Breeders' Cup Classic winner Drosselmeyer (Distorted Humor). Reylu Gutierrez gets the call. TJCIS PPS

1st-GP, $84K, Msw, 3yo, f, 1 1/8mT, 12:40 p.m.

Another pair of homebreds takes to the grass in south Florida led by TAWARET (Pioneerof the Nile), a bay filly out of $1.3m China Horse Club purchase Tapas (Tapit). That mare is a half-sister to MGSW & GISP Justwhistledixie (Dixie Union), herself the producer of GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile victor New Year's Day (Street Cry {Ire}), MGSW Mohaymen (Tapit), GSW & GISP Enforceable (Tapit), and GSW Kingly (Tapit).

Strategerized (Justify), breaking to the inside, debuts for Anderson Farms Ontario Inc. and Narola LLC. The Ontario bred is out of a half-sister to GI Beholder Mile heroine Secret Spice (Discreet Cat) while under the third dam is Loving Vindication (Vindication), the dam of Canadian horse of the year Wonder Gadot (Medaglia d'Oro) and GISW Hard Not to Love (Hard Spun). TJCIS PPS

From the first crop of the late champion Arrogate, USURPED debuts Sunday for trainer Brendan Walsh and owner/breeder Bridlewood Farm. The 3-year-old filly is out of the El Corredor mare Concinnous, making her a half-sister to millionaire & MGISW Iotapa (Afleet Alex), who sold for $2.8 million to the China Horse Club at the 2014 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Usurped is also a half-sister to GSP Saintly Joan (Northern Afleet), a $625,000 purchase at the same sale the following year. Her most recent work, a four-furlong move from the gate at Palm Meadows in :48 2/5 Apr. 8 (3/14), was on dirt, but she displays a pair of turf breezes there in her two prior efforts. TJCIS PPs

Away awkwardly to be last early, the bay split horses and came into the frame as the leading group looked taxed following a :45.55 half. Avow swung wide for clear sailing, took over with ease in upper stretch and poured it on from there to prevail by eight lengths. Sheza Spitfire (He's Had Enough) did well to hang on for second after showing the way. The 11th winner from the first crop of her late sire (by Unbridled's Song), Avow's GSW dam is a full to GISW Jack Milton.

6th-Del Mar, $72,500, Msw, 11-20, 2yo, f, 6 1/2f, 1:17.45, ft, 2 1/4 lengths.
EMPIRE GAL (f, 2, Empire Maker–Double Tapped, by Tapit) opened her account at first asking Saturday at Del Mar with a good-looking victory over 6 1/2 furlongs Saturday. Prominent in the early stages, the bay filly drifted back to a midfield position while racing well out into the track approaching the turn. Given her cue with a little less than three-eighths of a mile to travel, the 34-5 chance advanced four or five wide into the stretch, took aim on the front-runners nearing the furlong grounds and came away to a 2 1/4-length victory over longshot Peripheral (Ghostzapper). The debuting Micro Share (Upstart) won a photo for third over favored Adare Manor (Upstart). A half-sister to GSW Majestic Eagle (Medaglia d'Oro, $387,129), Empire Gal is out of a full-sister to champion and GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Untapable who was acquired by Bridlewood for $1.3 million in foal once again to Medaglia d'Oro at Fasig-Tipton November in 2015. Grade II-winning granddam Fun House (Prized) was named Broodmare of the Year in 2014 following Untapable's champion 3-year-old filly campaign and is also responsible for GISW Paddy O'Prado (El Prado {Ire}). Third dam Bistra (Classic Go Go) was a half-sister to GISW Olympio. Double Tapped is the dam of a Union Rags colt that fetched $200,000 from Untapable's owner Winchell Thoroughbreds at this year's Keeneland September sale and a weanling filly by Omaha Beach. She visited Nyquist this past breeding season. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $42,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.
