Set down at the five-furlong pole, Flightline clicked off splits of :12 flat, 23.80, 35.80, and 59.80, then galloped out seven furlongs in 1:24.20, a mile in 1:37.20, and nine furlongs in 1:51 flat.

“This was just like his last work at Del Mar (before the Sept. 3 GI Pacific Classic) when he went out a mile in 37 and change, which is what he did today,” said Sadler. “When I talked to Juan this morning, I essentially told him, we're not doing anything different. We're just going to breeze him like he's been breezing, which, sensational is the norm for him.”

Sadler continued, “He's always worked well. More people are watching now, but he's never worked anything other than really well. This was just what we wanted… We can do more or less and just hope he bounces out of it good.”

A triple Grade I winner owned by the partnership of Hronis Racing LLC, Siena Farm LLC, Summer Wind Equine LLC, West Point Thoroughbreds, and Woodford Racing LLC, Flightline is undefeated in five starts and has won each by large margins–a combined 62 3/4 lengths–in a manner which suggests he has much more to give. The 126 Beyer Speed Figure he earned in the Pacific Classic is the best number given a horse since 2004 and his negative 8 1/2 Thoro-Graph number is the fastest ever assigned to a horse.

“He ships tomorrow [Sunday], early, at two in the morning and flies out of Ontario,” said Sadler. “Rene Quinteros will accompany him on the van to Ontario and Cesar Aguilar will meet him in Louisville. He'll then van over to Keeneland tomorrow afternoon.

“He'll have one breeze at Keeneland, one week from today, pending weather. It would be a lesser work, five (furlongs) in a minute is usually what he does… Just kinda cruise around there. His groom, Adolfo Correa, and the other guys will fly back tonight and get there ahead of the horse.”

Flightline is scheduled to stand at Lane's End Farm upon retirement, but connections have not committed to retiring him after the Breeders' Cup. Sadler has alluded to a possible start in the Jan. 28 GI Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream as a next target.

“Last work today, it was very nice,” trainer John Sadler said afterward. “The idea today was not go very hard a week out. So what we try to do is just maintain his rhythm, keep him in the same place he's been in. We were thrilled. He did a minute effortlessly and he's essentially ready.”

He continued, “That's what's so exciting. You look at the works and think  Oh, he's working fast,' but in reality he's well within himself.”

Country Grammar (Tonalist), who is being pointed to the TVG Pacific Classic, also put in his final work Saturday morning, going five furlongs in 1:00.

“I like the way he went,” trainer Bob Baffert said. “He went nice for him. He's not going to really light it up in the morning but he runs in the afternoon.”

Under jockey Jose Ortiz, The Chad Brown pupil went three-eighths in :36.40 before completing the five furlong move in 1:00.63 and galloping out six furlongs in 1:13 flat over the fast main track.

“He hit the times just as I wanted and he galloped out super,” Brown said of Early Voting. “If he comes out of the breeze in good shape, then he's on to Pimlico. Tentatively, I'm thinking of shipping the horse on Tuesday.”

Early Voting skipped the GI Kentucky Derby in favor of this spot. Brown made a similar move with the Klaravich co-owned Cloud Computing (Maclean's Music) after he finished third in the Wood.

“There's a lot of similarities,” Brown said. “They both are lightly-raced, improving horses that are coming out of the Wood and could use a little more time and experience rather than throw them into a 20-horse field in the Derby.”

Miles D is slated for the GIII Pimlico Special S. Friday.

“Miles D worked inside, he's actually a little better outside, but it set it up that way today,” said Brown. “He got a lot of the work this morning. He missed a little time because he got sick before the Oaklawn Handicap, so we missed that race. He should appreciate the distance of the Pimlico Special.”

Greatest Honour broke his maiden at fourth asking at Gulfstream Dec. 26 and has swept the first two of three GI Kentucky Derby preps held at Gulfstream: the Jan. 30 GIII Holy Bull and the Feb. 27 Fountain of Youth.

Under exercise rider Heather Smullen, Tiz the Law went in company with stablemate Niko’s Dream (Central Banker) (five furlongs in 1:01.05) before drawing away at the top of the lane. He recorded splits of :13.07, :24.84, :36.43, and :47.63 before galloping out seven furlongs in 1:25.46 and one mile in 1:40.05.

“He just goes out there and does his job,” Smullen said. “He was on the bridle, breaking off of her [Niko’s Dream] and then he decided ‘Well, it’s time to finish up’ and he just went on away from her. He does everything you expect a good horse to do.”

“We wanted him to settle next to [Niko’s Dream], which he did,” said trainer Barclay Tagg’s assistant and longtime partner Robin Smullen said. “They went the first three-eighths in 36 and 4. He galloped out seven-eighths in 1:25. He pulled up great, cooled out well.”

A decisive winner of the GI Belmont S. June 20, Tiz the Law was ultra-impressive when capturing the GI Runhappy Travers S. Aug. 8 and was second in the GI Kentucky Derby Sept. 5. Connections chose to skip the GI Preakness S. Oct. 3 and train up to the Classic.

The native New Yorker was one of the first on the track at

5:45 a.m. in an attempt to beat the incoming rainstorm. With regular breeze rider Heather Smullen in the irons, the flashy bay covered his first three furlongs in :36.01 and galloped out in 1:12.01.

“Everything went fine. He came back well,” trainer Barclay Tagg said. “He did everything he was supposed to do. I’m satisfied with this work. We had to make the decision this morning to work him. We made the decision around 4:00. Luckily, it wasn’t raining when he was working. It’s supposed to rain all day, and the track may be worse tomorrow. I’m glad we got the work in.”

Tiz the Law is scheduled to ship to Churchill Downs Monday and regular rider Manny Franco will join him Louisville.

California Contingent Put in Final Preparations

Hall of Famer Bob Baffert sent out Derby contender Thousand Words (Pioneerof the Nile) and Oaks runner Gamine (Into Mischief) for their final breezes at Del Mar Saturday.

‘TDN Rising Star’ Gamine covered six furlongs in 1:11.60 (1/5) with Juan Ochoa in the irons. The $1.8-million EASMAY topper was clocked in splits of :24.40, :36.60 and :59.40, working in company with SW Quality Response (Quality Road), who was given a half-mile in :48 flat. A dazzling winner of both the GI Acorn S. and GI Test S., Gamine is expected to be one of the top choices in the Oaks.

“She worked beautifully,” Baffert said. “She’s coming into the race very well and I’m very happy with her right now. It’s going to be a tough race, very competitive, but we’re excited and she looks ready for it.”

MGSW Thousand Words, victor of the Shared Belief S. last out, went five furlongs in :59.80 (2/53), going in splits of :11.80 and :36 flat and galloping out six panels in 1:11.40. He worked in company with maiden Tapitution (Constitution), who covered the distance in 1:01.

Champion Storm the Court (Court Vision) also breezed at Del Mar Saturday, going six furlongs in 1:12.80 (2/5) under exercise rider Austin Solis.

“A good work, all we were looking for,” trainer Peter Eurton said. “If he comes out of it well, we’re headed East.”

Grade I winner Honor A. P. (Honor Code) breezed late Saturday morning in SoCal, working seven furlongs in 1:27.20 (2/2) with Hall of Famer Mike Smith aboard. He was clocked in splits of :25.80, :37.80, :50.20, 1:02.80 and 1:14.80 with a one mile gallop-out time of 1:40.60.

“I just wanted an easy seven eighths,” trainer John Shirreffs said. “He got it; we’re good to go. Now we just need a bit of luck. You need some of that in that race.”

The West Coast contingent for the Oaks and Derby is scheduled to ship Monday. John Velazquez rides Gamine and Baffert’s top Derby contender Authentic (Into Mischief); Florent Geroux has the call on Thousand Words; and Julien Leparoux is slated to ride  Storm the Court.

Derby & Oaks Breezers Out in Full Force at Churchill

Swiss Skydiver (Daredevil), Gamine’s chief market rival in the Run for the Lilies, was among the Oaks and Derby contenders breezing beneath the Twin Spires Saturday. The GI Alabama S. heroine went a half-mile in :49.20 (8/40).

“We went to the frontside [to watch],” trainer Kenny McPeek said. “It was just a happy half-mile, just something to stretch her legs a little bit. Uncomplicated. Brian knows her well. It was nice of him to come by and get on her. All systems go.”

GIII Lecomte S. victor Enforceable (Tapit) breezed a half-mile in :49.60 (16/40) under jockey Adam Beschizza.

“I thought the work was perfect,” said Beschizza, who also had worked Enforceable over the winter at Fair Grounds. “He went a scratch under :50. Mark [Casse] and [assistant trainer] David [Carroll] just wanted to keep the lid on it. His major work was in the bag.”

GII Tampa Bay Derby hero and GI Arkansas Derby runner-up King Guillermo (Uncle Mo) went an easy four furlongs in :52.20 (39/40). The bay went in splits of :14.40 and :27.20 and galloped out five furlongs in 1:05.20.

“[Trainer Juan Avila] asked me to go easy and it was exactly what the horse needed,” exercise rider Edgar Garcia said. “I thought he galloped out around the turn well and was moving very easy on the track. He doesn’t need to do much, he’s pretty fit.”

GIII Indiana Derby runner-up Major Fed (Ghostzapper) was also out for his final move Saturday, going five panels in a best-of-36 :59 flat.
