8th-Keeneland, $96,906, Msw, 10-13, 2yo, f, 1 1/16m, 1:47.33, ft, 3 1/2 lengths.
INTRICATE (f, 2, Gun Runner–Complex Analysis, by Distorted Humor) made belated progress to finish a never-nearer fifth, beaten just over two lengths, on six-furlong debut at Churchill Sept. 16, and was the 2-1 second choice stretching out to a distance of ground for the first time. Prominent through the opening exchanges, the chestnut eased back to sit midfield, but close, as they turned up the backstretch. Steered out into the four path entering the second bend, Intricate was held together passing the quarter pole, quickly raced up to the leaders once heads were turned for home and ran out a good-looking 3 1/2-length winner. A $200,000 KEESEP yearling and $280,000 OBS April breezer, Intrictate is the first foal from her dam, a full-sister to SW & GSP Abraham, who cost LBD Stable $180,000 carrying this filly at the 2020 Keeneland November sale. Complex Analysis is also the dam of a yearling colt by The Factor ($23,000 '23 KEEJAN; $65,000 '23 FTKJUL) and produced a Munnings colt this year before visiting Gun Runner's sire Candy Ride (Arg).

Austere, never far from the lead, powered home to an easy three-length victory in the Global Tote Juvenile Fillies S. at Kentucky Downs Sunday. The dark bay filly settled in third and was within striking distance racing up the hill. Waiting for racing room nearing the stretch, she tipped out three wide at the top of the lane and reeled in pacesetting Bella Haze with a furlong to run before drawing clear to the wire. Bella Haze held on to second as Latte Lizzie and Kodiac Wintergreen (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) closed in tandem.

“It was not a surprise at all,” winning trainer Brendan Walsh said of Austere's effort. “She'd been working great. We think she has lots of talent. It was great to go there and win. It looks like she's going to a nice filly going forward.”

Austere was cutting back to a mile after breaking her maiden going 1 1/16 miles over the Ellis Park lawn in her Aug. 13 debut.

Asked if a tilt at the GI Breeders' Cup Juv Fillies Turf would be next for Austere, Walsh said, “You'd have to after today. She's two for two now. So we'll see how she comes out of it and go from there. But she's done nothing wrong so far.”

A slight drift in the markets saw the bay jump at a fairly generous even money Sunday and she hit the ground running before being securing a rail-skimming spot by the time they reached the first turn. Nursed along while drafting in behind pacesetting Al Qahira (Cairo Prince) down the backstretch, Distinctlypossible pushed away from the fence to deliver her challenge three abreast at the entrance to the short stretch. Though she began looking for the wire passing the sixteenth pole, she kept on well enough to best the running-on Miss Yearwood (Will Take Charge) by 1 1/4 lengths. A $200,000 Keeneland September yearling, Distinctlypossible was hammered down to Pete Bradley's Bradley Thoroughbreds for $670,000 at last year's OBS April Sale after working an eighth of a mile in :10 1/5 while never switching her leads. The winner's dam was a $275,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga graduate and went on to win the GII Fleur de Lis H. in the John Oxley yellow and pale blue colors. She is the dam of four winners from as many to race and foaled a colt by Oxley's Darby Dan-based Flameaway (Scat Daddy) in 2021 before returning to that stallion.

Vicky True, Bradley Thoroughbreds' longest tenured employee, will retire at the end of October, according to the bloodstock agency.

“Just over 22 years ago, Vicky joined the Bradley Thoroughbreds team as the office administrator and has been a steadfast team member ever since,” said the release. “She has managed all Bradley Thoroughbreds stallion season contracts and worked in conjunction with all major farms in the area to ensure our business runs smoothly. Always the first to greet a visitor in the office or answer the phone, Vicky has been the first line of defense at Bradley Thoroughbreds for more than two decades.”

True is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and prior to joining the Bradley Thoroughbreds team, worked at some of the most prestigious farms in Central Kentucky, including Spendthrift, Gainesway, Hill 'n' Dale, and Darby Dan.

“Bradley Thoroughbreds is proud to have counted Vicky as a member of our team for so many years and we wish her a wonderful and well-deserved retirement,” the agency said.

Two-year-old filly Haughty (Empire Maker), taken down from first to third for interference after a clear-cut debut victory at Belmont Sept. 17, and then unable to draw in off the also-eligible list for Wednesday's GII JPMorgan Jessamine S., bested a solid-looking bunch at Keeneland Sunday to officially earn her diploma as well as the 'TDN Rising Star' nod. She had been flattered since her unveiling when the put-up winner that day was a close second at long odds in last week's GIII Matron S., and the $310,000 OBS April grad (:10 flat) was backed here like a near cinch at 1-5.

The bay was away without incident and sat perched off the pacesetter while well held through splits of :23.96 and :48.89. She took over approaching six furlongs in 1:13.53, and was confidently ridden from there, building up a four-length margin at the wire under a hands-and-heels ride from Tyler Gaffalione. Longshot Macadamia (Fr) (Wootton Basset {GB}) completed the exacta. The victory came some 20 minutes after the Chad Brown barn sent out another short-priced juvenile graduate at Belmont, and one day after the four-time Eclipse winner ran one-two in the GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup S. here and annexed the GII Sands Point S. in New York as well.

Haughty is half to Souper Colossal (War Front), MSW & MGSP, $427,640. Her dam Soaring Emotions (Kingmambo), a winner over a grassy mile at both Leopardstown and Tampa Bay Downs, sold to Hidden Brook last Keeneland November while carrying a Hard Spun colt. She revisited Hard Spun for 2022. Haughty's third dam Caerlina (Ire) (Caerleon) won the 1991 G1 Prix de Diane.

Trainer Chad Brown will send out three fillies against an evenly matched field built for Thursday's 12th running of the $120,000 Riskaverse, a one-mile event over the Saratoga Race Course inner turf for sophomore fillies who have not won a stakes at one mile or over. Saratoga Race Course is located in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The Riskaverse pays homage to Fox Ridge Farm's multiple Grade 1-winning mare, trained by Patrick Kelly, who became the first horse to score back-to-back triumphs in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl [2004-05]. The talented daughter of prominent turf stallion Dynaformer retired with earnings in excess of $2 million and a significant resume which also included triumphs in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky., and the Grade 2 Sands Point at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y., both in 2002.

<ins data-revive-zoneid="166" data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

Brown captured the Riskaverse with subsequent Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner Dayatthespa [2012] and Catch a Bid [2019].

Peter Brant's Rastafara will look to defeat winners for the first time. After two on-the-board efforts, the daughter of Shamardal graduated at third asking against impressive next-out winner Baby Blythe on July 24 going the Riskaverse distance over Saratoga's inner turf.

“She ran really well and finally broke though and got her maiden broken last time,” Brown said. “We've always thought a lot of her. She'll have to step it up again but it seems like the right spot for her.”

Irad Ortiz, Jr. will seek a fourth Riskaverse conquest when piloting Rastafara from post 7.

Minaun and Amy C will attempt to make amends after finishing a respective fifth and sixth in the Grade 3 Lake George on July 23 at the Spa, which was won by the Brown-trained Technical Analysis.

Owned by Bradley Thoroughbreds, Iris Smith Stable, and Rigney Racing, Minaun was four lengths back in upper stretch racing three-wide, but finished 3 ½ lengths behind the winner last out. A winner of the Group 3 Marble Hill last July at The Curragh, the Irish-bred daughter of Zoffany won her first start for Brown off a nine-month respite going one mile over the Widener turf course at Belmont Park on April 30 ahead of a close second in the Wild Applause on June 26 at Belmont.

Jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr. picks up the mount from post 11.

Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables, and Robert V. LaPenta's Amy C, a British-bred daughter of Charming Thought, won her North American debut on June 25 at Belmont Park before finishing sixth as the second choice in the Grade 3 Lake George.

Jockey Manny Franco will ride from post 9.

Chiefswood Stables' Third Draft makes her stakes debut off a sharp triumph in an allowance optional claiming tilt over the inner turf for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey.

The gray or roan daughter of multiple champion-producing sire Curlin, out of Ontario-bred stakes-winning Malibu Moon mare Original Script, defeated a group of winners last out that included graded stakes placed Magisterium and Amalfi Princess. She trailed the eight-horse field down the backstretch and made a sweeping wide move in upper stretch to get her nose on the wire in the final jumps.

After finishing behind subsequent stakes winners Technical Analysis and Munnyfor Ro at maiden level, fifth time was the charm for Third Draft in a 1 1/16-mile maiden event on May 8 over the Widener turf at Belmont Park.

“She's been pretty consistent, and I've liked her races,” said McGaughey, who won the 2016 Riskaverse with On Leave. “Her last two have been really good and I'm looking forward to running her in the Riskaverse. She wants to run farther than a mile, so hopefully this can set her up for something later on.”

Jockey Jose Ortiz retains the mount from post 4.

Hoolie Racing Stable and Madaket Stable's Hit the Woah will try to regain winning form for trainer Christophe Clement. The black type earning daughter of Vancouver was a 1 ¼-length winner of an off-the-turf maiden tilt on November 13 at Aqueduct, where she defeated next-out winners Amalfi Princess and Into Vanishing.

Although winless in two starts on grass, Hit the Woah made good showings both times when third in the Sanibel Island on March 27 at Gulfstream Park and seventh beaten 1 ¾ lengths to stablemate Bye Bye in the Grade 3 Soaring Softly on May 15 at Belmont.

She enters from an off-the-board effort in a main-track allowance at Parx in Bensalem, Penn., on June 30.

“She's in very good form and training forwardly,” Clement said. “Last time, we tried the dirt and that didn't work. At the moment this is the right spot for her.”

Jockey Joel Rosario will ride from post 8.

Trainer Brendan Walsh will send out Keeper of Time for her North American debut. The Bradley Thoroughbreds-owned daughter of Mehmas was a last out 80-1 upset winner of the Group 3 1000 Guineas Trial on April 11 at Leopardstown.

Jockey Tyler Gaffalione will ride Keeper of Time from post 2.

Completing the field are Magisterium [post 1, Dylan Davis], Stand By You [post 3, Javier Castellano], Triple Digit [post 5, Jose Lezcano], Designer Ready [post 6, Junior Alvarado] and Love and Money [post 10, Luis Saez].

The Riskaverse is carded as Race 9 on Thursday's 10-race program. First post is 1:05 p.m. Saratoga Live will present daily television coverage of the summer meet on FOX Sports.

When the racing world last saw Argentine-bred star La Renoleta, she was crushing allowance opponents early last year at Oaklawn in an audition for one of the country's biggest two-turn races for older fillies and mares.

Then, there was an injury. Now, there's a comeback.

Unbeaten La Renoleta (5 for 5) is scheduled to make her first start in over a year in Saturday's seventh race at Oaklawn, a 1-mile allowance, for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen.

After winning her first four career starts in Argentina, including the Estrellas Distaff (Gr. 1) in June 2019 – her last race in South America – La Renoleta was privately purchased by Kentucky bloodstock agent Peter Bradley III (Bradley Thoroughbreds) and sent to Asmussen in the United States.

<ins data-revive-zoneid="166" data-revive-id="b284fa4ee2b53b5c0fb16aa42e76910a"></ins>

La Renoleta resurfaced in a Feb. 8, 2020, allowance race at 1 1/16 miles and was a 9 ¾-length winner under perennial Oaklawn riding champion Ricardo Santana Jr., earning a solid 89 Beyer Speed Figure in her American debut. Bradley said La Renoleta was being considered for Oaklawn's $1 million Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) when a minor soft-tissue injury was discovered, prompting a lengthy break from racing.

“While it wasn't career ending, it was one of those things that took a long time to come around,” Bradley said Thursday morning. “We gave her every bit of time she needed, so it looks like she's back on top of her game and we can't wait for her to run this weekend.”

Bradley assembles racing partnerships, or racing ventures, focusing primarily on fillies. After dipping into South America to privately purchase Chilean-bred filly Dacita, who became a multiple Grade 1 winner in the United States for four-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown, Bradley said he began tracking La Renoleta in June 2019 before finalizing a deal roughly three months later.

A 6-year-old daughter of grass standout Treasure Beach (a Grade 1 winner in the United States and Group 1 winner in Europe), La Renoleta will again be running at Oaklawn following a lengthy layoff. Bradley said retirement was never seriously considered following her injury, adding four months of recovery stretched to seven out of caution.

“There was a hemorrhage along with it, that made it look worse,” Bradley said. “Essentially, we just wanted to be extra careful and we took some time. Knock on wood, it's paid off. We may have even overreacted a little bit, but that's OK. We wanted to make sure she's 100 percent. That's what we have right now.”

Bradley said La Renoleta resumed training around New Year's Day. The mare has seven published workouts at Oaklawn since March 10 in advance of her 2021 debut.

“We figured she would be ready for a spring/summer campaign,” Bradley said. “We hoped we could have been ready early in the Oaklawn meet and could have made a decision on the Apple Blossom. There's two ways you find out if a horse is ready to run. The horses tell you and then Steve tells you.”

Mexican champion Letruska won last Saturday's $1 million Apple Blossom (G1), nosing out two-time Eclipse Award winner Monomoy Girl. La Renoleta's allowance race is an “extra,” meaning it wasn't in the condition book and is a substitute race written by Oaklawn racing secretary Pat Pope. Bradley said Saturday's comeback spot isn't a prep for something specific, just a gateway to, hopefully, graded stakes events this summer.

“We always hope to do that with them, if they look like they've got this type of talent,” Bradley said. “Again, one step at a time. We've got this race Saturday. After that, we'll see. If she runs up to our expectations, we'll most probably look for a stakes race. If it turns out that she needs a race, we'll go to Plan B. I would hope that some races at Saratoga would be in her future this summer, some of their top races.”

Co-owners of La Renoleta are Swift Thoroughbreds Inc. (Mark Mache), Paul Braverman and Tim and Anna Cambron. Bradley, in partnership, won the $200,000 Bayakoa Stakes (G3) for older fillies and mares in 2019 at Oaklawn with the Asmussen-trained She's a Julie.

La Renoleta is the 8-5 program favorite for Saturday's seventh race at Oaklawn, which carries a $107,000 purse. Probable post time is 4:04 p.m. (Central).
