Barry “The Sniper” Spears, a successful handicapping tournament player, public handicapper, podcast host and influential voice in the world of horse racing Twitter, joined the latest episode of Bettor Things with Joe Bianca this week for a wide-ranging conversation on topics inside the sport and out. Michael Beychok, the 2012 National Handicapping Championship winner, has made plenty of headlines this year. A well-known, outspoken horseplayer, Beychok joined the latest episode of Bettor Things with Joe Bianca this week to talk about his class-action suit against Bob Baffert surrounding the since-vacated 2021 Kentucky Derby victory of Medina Spirit, his vow to move his handle to sports betting in response to drug issues in racing, the approach to tournament play that helped him win the NHC, his day job as a political consultant and more.

Also this week, Bettor Things welcomed its first sponsor in the Breeders' Cup. To kick off a handicapping series that will precede each of the six nationally-televised Breeders' Cup Win and You're In programs leading up the World Championships Nov. 4-5 at Keeneland, Bianca broke down all angles of this week's GI TVG.com Haskell invitational S. at Monmouth Park, a qualifier for the GI Longines Breeders' Cup Classic. Though the bulk of the wagering money will be on big names Jack Christopher (Munnings) and Taiba (Gun Runner), Bianca is taking a shot against the favorites and also threw in an all-stakes Pick 4 play for Saturday at the Jersey Shore oval. Handicapper, Sam Houston Racecaller Nick Tammaro Joins Bettor Things

Nick Tammaro has been known in public handicapping and tournament circles for nearly a decade now, having proven his sharp opinion on the New York Racing Association's Talking Horses pre-race handicapping show and in contest spots as prominent as the Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge. But Tammaro took on what he calls the “biggest professional challenge” of his life earlier this year at his hometown track, Sam Houston Race Park, when he started his first job as a full-time racecaller.

Tammaro just wrapped up his first Thoroughbred meet as the announcer at the player-friendly track and took a break before calling quarter horses Friday night to join the third episode of Bettor Things with Joe Bianca, TDN's handicapping-focused one-on-one conversation podcast. Bianca and Tammaro had an engaging, funny and illuminating 40-minute discussion that touched on a wide variety of topics: the debate over the Triple Crown's spacing, sports betting, fixed-odds wagering, how to keep your mind focused during the chaos of a major handicapping tournament, their shared schadenfreude for James Harden's playoff failures, what the racing and handicapping landscape will look like in 10-15 years and much more. Then, in his future bets segment, Bianca gave out bets for the French Open, two each on the men's and women's sides.

Generally the hardest race to handicap every year, the 2022 renewal of the GI Kentucky Derby appears even more complicated than most, with a handful of major contenders but no standout favorite, and a seemingly small gap back to the rest of the field. Monday, shortly after the 20-horse field was drawn for Saturday's Run for the Roses, TDN writers and podcast hosts Joe Bianca and Bill Finley broke down the race from a variety of angles to try to provide clarity and insight for Derby bettors. TDN Launches ‘Bettor Things With Joe Bianca’ Handicapping Podcast

This week, the TDN is adding a new show to its expanding podcast lineup by introducing 'Bettor Things with Joe Bianca', which will be the publication's first podcast focused solely on handicapping and betting. The show will feature in-depth one-on-one conversations with the host of TDN's popular Writers' Room podcast and some of the brightest wagering minds in the handicapping world. The interviews will delve into strategies for playing the horses as well as sports betting, but also branch out into more general life topics to learn what makes the guests tick and who they are as people.

In the first episode, which is now available on YouTube, Bianca welcomes David Aragona, who is the morning-line maker for the New York Racing Association, a highly-regarded handicapper for Timeform US and Daily Racing Form and a podcast host himself for Timeform US. Over a cocktail or two, Bianca and Aragona discussed their origin stories for becoming horseplayers, their shared frustrations in trying to get friends their age to pick up the game, what they've learned over the years that can help produce positive returns on investment, how they see the future of racing evolving and much more.
