AQPS gelding Jamaico (Fr) (Cokoriko {Fr}) brought €310,000 from Hubert Barbe's Horse Racing Advisory, Thursday's leading buyer, who signed for two lots for a total of €400,000. Consigned by Emmanuel Clayeux, lot 505 has won once over jumps at Auteuil this year and was bred by the Cypres family.

“I've bought him for Caroline Tisdall who has horses in training with David Pipe,” said Barbe. “She really wants to have a good chaser that could run at all the big meetings. He has everything going for him. He made a really nice comeback in a bumper at the beginning of the season and still has a lot of improvement in him. We had to battle a bit to get him, so we are very happy.”

Full Of Shade (Fr) (No Risk At All {Fr}) (lot 495), another horse from the jumps sphere, went to Pierre Boulard of PB Bloodstock, Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins for €280,000. Consigned by Ballyreddin and Busherstown, the placed 4-year-old filly is a half-sister to graded winner The Reader (Fr) (Lando {Ger}) and listed scorer Vintage (Fr) (Nickname {Fr}).

Boulard said, “She's a lovely mare by No Risk At All, a stallion that we think a lot of. We're really happy with our purchase.”

No Risk At All also featured as the covering sire of lot 290, Sideralis (Fr) (Kapgarde {Fr}), the sale's top-priced broodmare. The Haras de la Vallee-consigned mare went to Jean-Christian Raymond and Thomas Maudet for €145,000.

“Her pedigree speaks for itself,” Raymond said. “She's a daughter of Kapgarde, a very good broodmare sire, and she's in foal to an excellent stallion in No Risk At All. Maurice Rohaut, his son Francois and Jean-Marie Mercier introduced me to Thoroughbreds. She is my eighth mare and I'm very happy.”

The Aga Khan's homebred Hamsiyann (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) (lot 473) caught the eye of Toby Jones for €250,000. Part of the Aga Khan Studs' draft, the son of Harasiya (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) won a 2300-metre race at Tarbes in June in the colours of his breeder, his second victory in six starts. He is from the family of G3 Prix de Guiche winner Big Rock (Fr) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}), who was runner-up in the G1 Prix du Jockey Club.

“He'll join Tony Martin in Ireland,” said Toby Jones. “He's a lovely horse and I really liked the way he won on his last start.”

Fabrice Vermeulen's Mqse De Maintenon (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}) (lot 487) brought €185,000 from David Hilton and Oakgrove Stud. The dual winner was placed in the Listed Prix des Lilas this term and is a half-sister to the multiple group-placed Shamardal filly Grecian Light (Ire).

“We're delighted,” said Hilton, who manages Oakgrove. “It's a family that we know well and we're very pleased to support it once again. The filly is very talented and I think she still has a lot to offer. We have a good programme for fillies in England and we can't wait to see her race there.”

During Thursday's session, 164 sold of 189 offered (86.7%) for a gross of €5,742,000. The average declined fractionally to €35,012 (-1.8%) and the median rose to €14,000 (+27.3%). For the sale as a whole, 346 sold of 411 through the ring (84.2%) for a gross of €11,833,750. The average was €34,202 (-0.6%) and the median was €20,000 (+25%). Guy Petit was the top buyer by aggregate, with five purchased for a total of €453,000 during the two-day stand. The Channel Consignment filled that same role among the consignors, with 22 sold for a gross of €1,435,000.

Thursday's topper, who set a new record top price for a store at the sale, is out of a full-sister to G1 Prix Cambaceres hero Nirvana Du Berlais (Fr) (Martaline {GB}) and went to the session's leading buyer Guy Petit on behalf of Edward James. Sold as Nietzsche Has (Fr), the February-foaled colt is also related to Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Aubusson (Fr) (Ballingarry {Ire}) and two-time graded-scoring jumper Triana Du Berlais (Fr) (Presenting {GB}).

“He's a lovely well-made colt,” said Edward James. “He'll go to England to be pre-trained and we hope that he can make into a good racehorse and then stallion in the future.”

About midway through the sale, the son of the Grade 3-placed Chata Joana Has (Fr) (Dream Well {Fr}) caught the eye of Bertrand Le Metayer of BLM Bloodstock. Named Nabab Has (Fr), the gelding is out of a half-sister to listed-winning jumpers Na Has (Fr) (Saint Des Saints {Fr}) and Namour Has (Fr) (Doctor Dino {Fr}).

“He's a colt that looks ready made to run at three at Auteuil,” said the agent. “I've bought him with Mr. Rolland and Arnaud Chaille-Chaille.”

The Channel Consignment was the leading vendor, with 16 sold for an average of €77,125 and a gross of €1,234,000.

Fresh off siring Sunday's G1 Deutsches Derby hero Fantastic Moon (Ger), Sea The Moon (Ger) was also the sire of note of the top-priced 2-year-old on the day, lot 36. Consigned by Knockanglass Stables, the son of Apura (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}) went to Nicolas de Watrigant's Mandore International Agency and Alessandro Botti for €85,000. His dam is a half-sister to the Domedriver (Ire) horse Three Bodies (Ire), who won the Listed Prix Ridgway and was second in the G2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano. Japanese Oaks heroine Erin Court (Jpn) (Durandal {Jpn}) is under the third dam.

“I think he's one of the best colts in the sale, said Alessandro Botti. “He is by Sea The Moon, a good stallion, and his dam has already produced two winners. We've bought him for Mr. Jathiere and one of my clients. We're very happy and I'm looking forward to him joining my stable.”

Of the 222 offered on Thursday, 182 sold (81.9%) sold for a gross of €6,157,250. The average was €33,831 (+3%) and the median rose to €24,000 (+17%). Nine lots, all stores, sold for six figures.

Consigned as lot 449, the 98-rated 4-year-old was most recently fourth in the G2 Grand Prix de Chantilly. The daughter of three-time French listed-placed mare Power of The Moon (Ire) (Acclamation {GB) was bred by Haras Voltaire and consigned by trainer Philippe Decouz. Formerly an Ecurie Griezmann colourbearer, the relative of dual group winner Zinziberine (Zieten) captured the G2 German 1000 Guineas earlier this year. She cost Broadhurst Agency €310,000 when selling in this ring during the 2020 September Yearling Sale.

Donohoe said, “We can't wait to see her run – it is possible that we might send her over for the Del Mar Oaks in California in August but nothing is decided yet, we can't wait to discuss options. She's a racing prospect and a breeding prospect, and she will be a lovely broodmare in Australia.”

Txope was not the only filly to join the Yulong Investments fold Friday, as BBA Ireland also snapped up lot 240, the juvenile winner Kesariya (Fr) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) from The Aga Khan Studs, for €150,000, as well as Follow The Rainbow (Fr) (Pivotal {GB}) (lot 316) for just €56,000 from La Riviere. The former is out of the Listed Prix Hampton winner Kerasona (Fr) (Oasis Dream {GB}), who is a half-sister to G3 Prix du Bois victress Keratiya (Fr) (Iron Mask). A daughter of Arch Of Colours (GB) (Monsun {Ger}), Follow The Rainbow is from the same family as G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest winner Signs Of Blessing (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}).

“We'll decide on her next steps in the coming weeks,” said Sam Fairgray of Kesariya. “She could stay to be bred in the Northern Hemisphere or come to Australia.

Havana Grey (GB) has gotten off to a bright start with his first juveniles and the Whitsbury Manor Stud resident leads all European first-season sires by winners with 20. One of those, the Group 3-placed Havana Angel (Ire) (lot 471), was offered by Amy Murphy and proved popular on Friday. Out of the winning Claramara (Ire) (Epaulette {Aus}), who is a half-sister to listed winner Sweet Cecily (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), the grey hammered to Narvick International Inc. for €320,000. A €10,000 Goffs November foal turned €20,000 Goffs Sportsman's Sale yearling, Havana Angel is a member of the same family as GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity S. and GI Toyota Blue Grass S. hero Brody's Cause (Giant's Causeway).

“She'll come back to California,” said Emmanuel de Seroux of Narvick International. “I've bought her for Marsha Naify. I saw her at Chantilly and was impressed by her race. She also ran very well at Dieppe just beforehand. We think she has a lot of talent. The choice of trainer is up to her owner but there is a big chance that it will be Leonard Powell.”

In foal to Victor Ludorum (GB), Lyra Star (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) (lot 247) was the priciest broodmare on Friday, with MAB Agency signing for the 4-year-old at €135,000. Her dam, the G3 Prix de Psyche third Light The Stars (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), is a half-sister to standout sire and Classic winner Lope de Vega (Ire) (Shamardal), as well as three other black-type winners.

Not to be outdone by their Flat brethren, jumps trainers were also out in force during the second session and Willie Mullins, buying with Harold Kirk and Pierre Boulard, shelled out €360,000 for the gelded Spanish Harlem (Fr) (Spanish Moon) (lot 493) from Gabriel Leenders. A winner of his only start at Auteuil, the 4-year-old's dam is a half-sister to Grade 2 chase winner Roi des Francs (Fr) (Poliglote {GB}).

The same buying trio also gave €260,000 for lot 473, the Fastnet Rock (Aus) gelding Absurde (Fr), who was multiple stakes-placed from Wertheimer & Free; and €210,000 for Nicolas Clement representative Daddy Long Legs (Fr) (Almanzor {Fr}) (lot 443), who was placed from his only start to date.

“We've bought him [Absurde] for clients of Willie Mullins that like dual-purpose horses that can go over jumps or over long distances on the flat, and Absurde really fits this profile,” explained Pierre Boulard.

Tom Malone and Paul Nichols put up €255,000 for lot 444, the Camelot (GB) gelding Afadil (Fr). Consigned by The Aga Khan Studs, the bay has a win and a placed effort from three starts. His dam is a half-sister to the stakes winner Ashiyla (Fr) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}).

Mombasa (Fr) (Martaline {GB}) (lot 500) and Zertakt (Fr) (Walzertakt {Ger}) (lot 502) were both snapped up by Guy Petite for €250,000 and €195,000, respectively. Undefeated over obstacles, Mombasa was consigned by Francois Nicolle. His granddam is the listed winner Monika (Fr) (Dernier Empereur), responsible for three black-type winners, among them G1 Prix Renaud du Vivier winner Moises Has (Fr) (Martaline {GB}). Thrice a winner over fences, the Lageneste & Macaire-consigned Zertakt last won an Auteuil 3600-metre race on June 16.

At the close of trade, 212 sold from 235 offered for a gross of €7,563,300. The average rose to €35,676 (+70.4%) and the median also ticked up to €11,000 (+57%). Overall, 380 horses found new homes for a clearance rate of 86.4%. Grossing €13,091,300, the average over two days was €34,451 (+65.3%), while the median was €16,000 (+60%).

Offered by MC Thoroughbred, Marco Bozzi Bloodstock snapped up the May third foal, with Bozzi bidding beside Alessandro Botti on behalf of Prince Saud bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

“He's a lovely colt by Medaglia d'Oro, a stallion that has had a lot of success in Saudi Arabia,” said the agent. “We've been following the colt for a while already, and we went to see him in Ireland a month ago and really liked him. We're very happy with the purchase.”

Out of the Listed Marble Hill S. third So Stylish (Johannesburg), herself a half-sister to G1 Phoenix S. and G1 National S. hero One Cool Cat (Storm Cat), he is from the same family as the Group/Grade 1-placed duo of Savannah Dancer (Northern Dancer) and her daughter Sha Tha (Mr. Prospector). He previously brought $62,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearling Sale Stateside.

The second dearest lot of the day during the breeze-up portion was a colt by Exceed And Excel (Aus) (lot 72) out of the Intikhab mare Duquesa (Ire). Bozzi was in action once again, this time shelling out €110,000. From the Knockanglass Stables consignment, the bay is a half-brother to the listed-placed Born To Be (Born To Sea {Ire}), while his granddam, Love Of Silver (Arctic Tern), won the G3 Prestige S. in the UK and took third in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac.

Leading the buyers' sheets for Flat-bred fillies, was another American-sired juvenile in lot 69, who is by the former shuttle stallion More Than Ready. A half-sister to the GIII Whitmore S. runner-up Tulane Tryst (Into Mischief) and from Mocklershill, she caught the eye of BBA Ireland and Yulong Investments at €77,000. Her dam is a half-sister to the stakes winner and Grade III-placed Abraham (Distorted Humor), while under the third dam is three-time Grade II victress and GI Go for Wand H. bridesmaid Miss Isella (Silver Charm).

At the end of the breeze-up portion, 73 Flat-bred 2-year-olds had sold (88%) for a gross of €1,393,500. The average was €21,773.

Store horses were also popular on the day with seven lots making six figures alongside the two Flat-bred juveniles. Of those seven, four were by Doctor Dino (Fr), with lot 114 the only other lot besides the Medaglia d'Oro colt to breach the €200,000 barrier. Knocked down for €210,000 to Bridge Consignment Ltd, the gelded store hails from the Jean-Marie Callier consignment. His dam, Miss de Champdoux (Fr) (Voix du Nord {Fr}) won at the Grade 2 level over jumps during her racing career.

“He's a lovely horse,” said Marius Cyprès of the colt who will bear the colours of a new French partnership including the family of Thierry Cypres. “He walks very well and comes from a great family. I know him well–I saw him grow up, so I am very happy. We've bought him for a new French partnership including my father and he'll stay in training in France.”

Another gelded son of Doctor Dino brought the third-highest price of the day at €160,000. Sold as lot 104 by The Channel Consignment, the son of Magnificat (Fr) (Saint des Saints {Fr}), herself a full-sister to graded-winning jumpers Happy Monarch (Fr) (Saint des Saints {Fr}) and Lord du Mesnil (Fr) (Saint des Saints {Fr}) went to NBB Racing.

Thursday's session comprised Flat-bred 2-year-olds and store horses, with the gross coming in at €5,598,500 for 169 lots of 205 offered (82.4%). The median improved to €21,000 (+55.6%) and the average also jumped up to €33,127 (+60%).

The second and final session of the Arqana Summer Sale will start at 11 a.m. with breeding stock and horses-in-training.
