A record number of 90 entries have been catalogued for the Tattersalls Online October Sale which takes place Oct. 19 – 20.

A wide range of lots are on offer from both Flat and National Hunt disciplines, including 55 horses in/out of training, 17 yearlings, 11 broodmares, three stores, a single point-to-point offering, a filly foal by Tirwanako (Fr) (Sin Kiang {Fr}) and breeding rights to Alkumait (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) and Cracksman (GB) (Frankel {GB}).

The 42 horses in training are headed by the 2-year-old Beauty Thunder (Ire) (Night of Thunder {Ire}), who was a game winner of a Roscommon maiden in August.
Highlighting the sponsorship, the connections of the first season sire are offering a €100,000 bonus to the connections of the first black-type winner from the stallion's first crop of 2-year-olds.

New Castlefield Stud stallion Alkumait (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) is part of a new sponsorship agreement with The Curragh. The two-race package includes the first 2-year-old race of the new Flat Racing season on Mar. 26 and a 10-furlong maiden for 3-year-olds and up on Apr. 10. Both races will be an important part of launching and marketing the stallion's career. The G2 Mill Reef S. winner was purchased by Capital Bloodstock to stand at Castlefield Stud in County Kilkenny after his Mill Reef win. In addition, the breeder of the winner of the “Alkumait standing at Castlefield Stud with a €100,000 Bonus 2yo EBF Maiden” will be presented with a free nomination to the stallion. There is also a €100,000 bonus that will be awarded for the connections associated with his first black-type winner in 2025, with the breeder receiving 50%, the trainer 25% and the owner 25%.

Evan Arkwright, Racing and Sponsorship Manager, commented, “We are delighted to play an important role in the promotion of such an exciting new sire and the two year race in particular is a perfect fit to promote a racehorse who was such a high class juvenile.”

A knee chip sustained while running in the G3 Greenham S. on Sunday has knocked Shadwell's Alkumait (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) out of action until the autumn. The colt won a Goodwood maiden second up in July, and then added the G2 Mill Reef S. at Newbury on Sept. 19 prior to a last-placed run in the G1 Dewhurst S. on Oct. 10. Shelved until Apr. 18, the bay ran seventh in the Greenham over seven furlongs.

Shadwell Racing Manager Angus Gold said, “Sadly he's come out of it with a little chip on a knee, which we're going to have to take out. Apart from anything else, I think the run confirmed he doesn't stay, even if a chip on a knee was hardly going to help him.

“I think he's going to be a sprinter, but he'll miss the whole of the summer and we'll try to get him back in the autumn.”

Another Shadwell G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas hopeful that will skip the May 1 Classic is Mujbar (GB) (Muhaarar {GB}). Also a group winner as a juvenile taking the Oct. 24 G3 Horris Hill S., the bay colt will instead point to the G1 French 2000 Guineas on May 16. He ran eighth in the Greenham in his 3-year-old bow.

“All his best form last year was definitely with give in the ground and I think we learned the other day he would prefer it easier. He was also far too keen, anyway,” Gold added of Mujbar. “Hopefully we've got that out of him now on his first run back and we might look at the French Guineas or something like that. We'll see how he does between now and then, but he won't be going to Newmarket for the Guineas.”

'TDN Rising Star' Mutasaabeq (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) is still a potential Guineas contender, but his next start has not been confirmed. A winner at Newmarket in October, he earned 'Rising Star' status with a six-length drubbing of his contemporaries in a seven-furlong conditions stakes at HQ on Apr. 13.

Gold added, “No decision has been made yet. We'll wait to hear from Sheikh Hamdan's family whether they would like to supplement him for the Guineas or head towards [Royal] Ascot and go the more gentle route.”

Group 2 winner Alkumait (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) is likely for the G1 Dewhurst S. on Oct. 10, but would need to be supplemented. A winner at Goodwood at second asking on July 28, the Shadwell colourbearer won the G2 Mill Reef S. by 3/4 of a length at Newbury on Sept. 19.

“We were absolutely thrilled with him,” said Sheikh Hamdan’s racing manager Angus Gold of the Marcus Tregoning trainee. “He showed a really nice turn of foot and won very nicely. The Mill Reef/Middle Park double has never really worked out for us, so we were never going to go down that route.

“His action would suggest he prefers top of the ground. That’s not to say he wouldn’t handle cut in the ground, but I certainly don’t think he would want it heavy.

“Marcus would like to run Alkumait again this year–and as he said on Saturday, the only race for him really is the Dewhurst, which we didn’t enter him for because he’d only won a maiden at that stage.

“We’ll see how the land lies. We also have [G2 Champagne S. runner-up] Albasheer (Ire) (Shamardal) as a possible for the Dewhurst–I think he was undone by his inexperience as much as anything at Doncaster.

“There would be a question mark over the trip for Alkumait–but if he settled well, like he did on Saturday, he’d give himself a chance. Seven furlongs at Newmarket is a different test to six at Newbury, so we’ll see.

“It wouldn’t be the end of the world if he didn’t run again this year, [but] the Dewhurst is the best 2-year-old race in England, so if you can give yourself a better chance of winning it, maybe you should. “

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s twice-raced Alkumait (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) broke through tackling six furlongs in a July 28 Goodwood maiden and continued his upward path with a decisive victory returning in Saturday’s G2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef S. at Newbury. The February-foaled bay, who had posted a close-up fourth in a July 19 novice heat over Newbury’s straight six in his only other start, was 3/4-of-a-length too good for King Power Racing’s 475,000gns Tattersalls October Book 1 yearling Fivethousandtoone (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), with G1 Prix Morny third Rhythm Master (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) 2 3/4 lengths further back and best of the rest. The 8-1 chance was steadied to race within range of the leaders at the tail of the field after breaking to the fore in this black-type bow. Making smooth headway once past halfway, he quickened smartly to launch his bid entering the final furlong and was pushed out from there to comfortably outpoint 5-2 favourite Fivethousandttoone for a career high.
