Richard Hughes is eyeing a breakthrough Classic as a trainer this season–but admitted that high-class prospects Queen Of Zafeen (Ire) (Ten Sovereigns {Ire}) and Star Music (GB) (Zoustar {Aus}) would likely bid for big-race glory in Germany or France rather than take on the big guns domestically.

Both fillies will test their Classic credentials next month with Hughes stating that he has built up his strongest team yet. Queen Of Zafeen and Star Music are owned by Jaber Abdullah and, while they hold entries in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas, the Weathercock House handler is exploring options outside of Newmarket.

He said, “I'm probably going to run Queen Of Zafeen in the Nell Gwyn because she has no experience on grass and it has all happened a bit quick for her really.

“She will have had a nice break from the Spring Cup to the Nell Gwyn and I'm thinking the German 1,000 Guineas rather than the English version, but we will let her do the talking first.”

Star Music will also be in action that week with the Oh So Sharp S. third set for a run in the Dubai Duty Free S.–better known as the Fred Darling–at Newbury on April 20.

“She will go for the Fred Darling and a theory I have, which might be wrong, is that Zoustars prefer a really flat track,” Hughes continued.

“They are a bit like Exceed And Excels and just seem to act better when it is really flat. She was particularly impressive when she won at Kempton but I just feel Newmarket might not be her track, even though she ran a blinder in the Oh So Sharp. I might think of Longchamp for her if she runs well in her trial.”

Hughes is also holding plenty of hope for Derby entrant Kamboo (Ire) (Awtaad {Ire}), who is set for an early season appearance in the Bet365 Feilden S. at Newmarket, while the former champion jockey turned trainer feels he is entering the season with some real talent at his disposal.

“Kamboo is one for the Feilden and is showing up well at home,” he added. “It's all a bit undecided at the moment but it's the first time I've had a handful of Group horses in my yard.

“Normally we have one that is a hopeful, but this time I'm pretty confident I have four or five to go to war with, which is pretty good for a small enough string.

“I'm a bit of a realist and Lizzie [Hughes's wife] says I'm negative at times. It's just this year I know I have nice horses to go to war with, so it's been a little bit different in the spring.

“Now they are running so well it is a bonus–everything we seem to be running at the moment is winning or going close, so it's going really well.

Meanwhile, Dominic Ffrench Davis says he is doing a rain dance ahead of a potential tilt at the 1,000 Guineas with the Amo Racing-owned Persian Dreamer (Calyx {GB}).

“Persian Dreamer is not back in the yard yet, she's over with Robson Aguiar in Ireland but he tells me she's doing well so we're looking forward to her coming back,” the trainer said.

“I hope this rain continues because to win a Group 1 with her would be the aim, but she needs to get her toe in.”

Ryan Moore would have faced a straightforward decision to ride Opera Singer (Justify) in the 1,000 Guineas had Ballydoyle arrived at Newmarket with a full strength squad, according to Aidan O'Brien, who hopes Ylang Ylang (GB) (Frankel {GB}) can prove an able deputy to the runaway Prix Marcel Boussac winner on May 5 .

O'Brien revealed on Monday that Opera Singer was unlikely to make the 1,000 Guineas after suffering a minor setback which resulted in Ylang Ylang's odds tumbling from 8-1 into as short as 7-2 in places. Speaking at a Ballydoyle media morning on Wednesday, he all but ruled the filly out of Newmarket.

While O'Brien described himself as a big fan of the G1 Fillies' Mile heroine Ylang Ylang, he remains in little doubt over the pecking order in the three-year-old fillies' brigade.

Asked if Moore would have faced a difficult decision if Opera Singer and Ylang Ylang were to line out against each other at Newmarket, O'Brien said, “I don't think so. If Opera Singer was going to make the Guineas, I don't think it would have been a difficult choice for Ryan. She [Opera Singer] is very good. What she did in the Boussac…she's another Justify, set her off in front and follow her if you want.

“The other filly [Ylang Ylang] is very good but you have to take your time with her. That's what makes the Justifys so good, they are so uncomplicated.”

He added on Ylang Ylang, “I like her a lot. She did very well to do what she did because everything went wrong with her the third day–she was too keen. She had to come back to Newmarket and relax but then to go back and do what she did in the Fillies' Mile, you'd have to like her a lot.

“She could get a mile and a half as she's out of a Shamardal mare, so there's every chance she could, and the way she likes to be ridden will help her.

“Opera Singer is cantering but missed a few weeks, so I imagine the Irish 1,000 Guineas would be the earliest we'll see her. We'd just have to rush her too much otherwise. The year is long.”

Group 3 winner Content (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) is another filly that O'Brien holds in high regard with a view towards some of the fillies' Classics.

He said, “Content was impressive last year, she had a lovely run first time but then went to Ascot and lost her way, we had to slow her down and get her to relax.

“She won at the Curragh and came home very well [in fourth] in the Breeders' Cup. She could be a very nice filly, you just have to take your time with her, as she has plenty of speed.”

Opera Singer (Justify), winner of the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac and winter favourite for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas, may miss the first Classic of the season after meeting with a setback in training. Her trainer Aidan O'Brien confirmed the news in an interview on Racing TV.

He said, “Opera Singer is a bit behind. She had a little setback, she had two weeks easy and might not make the English Guineas. She is likely to start in the Irish Guineas and we don't want to force her.”

Bred by the late Evie Stockwell, Opera Singer is a half-sister to the Group/Grade 1 winners Brave Anna and Hit It A Bomb, both by War Front. The daughter of Liscanna (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) won three of her five starts at two, culminating in her top-level triumph in Paris at the Arc meeting. Prior to that she had beaten Monday's G3 Park Express S. winner Brilliant (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}) in the G3 Newtown Anner Stud Irish EBF S. at the Curragh.

Her stable-mate Ylang Ylang (GB) (Frankel {GB}), winner of the G1 Fillies' Mile, has now replaced Opera Singer at the head of the betting for the 1,000 Guineas on Sunday, May 5.

Natalia Lupini has confirmed that stable star Kitty Rose (GB) (Invincible Army {Ire}) has been sold to owner Tim Porter but will remain in the care of the County Down-based trainer until after the Qipco 1,000 Guineas at least.

Porter's colours were carried in Ireland last season aboard the Joseph O'Brien-trained Honey Girl (GB) (Mayson {GB}). It is understood that Kitty Rose, who won the Listed Ingabelle S. at the Irish Champions Festival before finishing second in a Group 3, will continue her career in Australia later this summer.

Before then, Lupini, one of the most upwardly mobile trainers in Ireland, says she is dreaming of a breakthrough Classic victory with a filly who can be backed at odds of 33-1 for the Newmarket showpiece.

Lupini told TDN Europe, “Kitty Rose has been sold [by former owner Nigel O'Hare] to a new owner but she stays in the yard. She will stay with us for the spring but she might head to Australia towards the end of the year. It is great news that she will stay with us for a few runs at least before heading to Australia. We're really excited and very grateful to the new owners for giving us the chance to train her for her next couple of races at least.”

She added, “We were just speaking with the owners during the week and they are keen to run in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. We are aiming for the Irish 1,000 Guineas Trial on April 7 at Leopardstown first. After that, we can make a decision on Newmarket.”

Lupini enjoyed her greatest ever tally of domestic winners last term. The Milan native sent out 16 winners from 102 runners. The figure stood at 14 wins from 56 runners the previous year. Prior to that, Lupini's greatest number of five wins was posted in 2021.

Things have been progressing nicely and top-notch breeze-up handler and respected pre-trainer Robson Aguiar was showered with praise by the trainer for pointing her in the direction of Kitty Rose.

Lupini explained, “We bought Kitty Rose from Robson Aguiar last year. We try to work closely with him and, for the past few seasons, we have bought a few horses from him. We get great feedback from Robson and we usually go to him with a plan. We have some new owners who have really embraced this new venture with us. He's a very good person to deliver exactly what an owner wants, be that a handicapper or a Group performer. He's able to say exactly what he thinks about each horse and then to put a price on it. Thankfully, Kitty Rose turned out to be very good. The relationship is working well.”

Away from Kitty Rose, there is plenty to look forward to for Lupini and her team, with a record number of juveniles in the system and high-class older horse Dunum (Ire) (Ivawood {Ire}) pencilled in for a trip to Royal Ascot.

She said, “It's been really exciting and we are working with the biggest number of horses we have ever had this season. We're still a small yard but we have a good number of two-year-olds and we're growing. We're thrilled with the team of horses that we have to work with this season. Not only the two-year-olds, but horses like Dunum as well. He will be aimed at the Emerald Mile on Irish Guineas weekend at the Curragh. We could look at Royal Ascot for him as well.”

Christopher Head won his first Classic last season with Blue Rose Cen (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) and he is now eyeing a possible run un the Qipco 1,000 Guineas for Ramatuelle (Justify), who was the top-rated juvenile in France in 2023.

The winner of the G2 Prix Robert Papin, and runner-up in the G1 Prix Morny, Ramatuelle is also entered for the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and she will begin her preparations for the Classics in Deauville on April 9.

“Ramatuelle has been a tremendous filly for us as a two-year-old and we are now preparing her for pretty much the mile programme in France, but not only in France, in the UK too,” said Head.

“We're looking all over Europe to make the best programme for her as a three-year-old. [Newmarket] is of course a possibility, but at the end of the day her owner will decide where she will run.

“She's going to go to the Prix Imprudence and then from there we will see where we go. To be a successful miler is the main objective this year.

“I think Ramatuelle is a really nice filly and Justify has proven he can sire very versatile horses. I'm very happy to have her at three and can't wait to see what she is going to do for us in the mile races this year.”

Ramatuelle, like Blue Rose Cen and fellow Group 1 winner Big Rock (Ire) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}), was bred by Yeguada Centurion but she was sold as a yearling to a syndicate involving Tony Parker's Infinity Nine Horses and Ecurie des Monceaux. While Blue Rose Cen has been moved over the winter to the stable of Maurizio Guarnieri, Big Rock remains under Head's care.

He said of the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. winner, “Big Rock is brilliant and has done very well over the winter. He will have a nice programme in Europe and we will be able to come over to the UK again.

“I will speak with the owners before saying anything about where he is going to start, but don't worry the horse is doing very well and we're very happy with his training. We can't wait to see him back on track.”

Last year's brilliant G1 1,000 Guineas winner Mawj (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) has been retired, Godolphin announced on Wednesday. She will now join the operation's broodmare band having failed to sparkle on what proved to be her final racecourse appearance when finishing last of the nine runners in last month's G1 Jebel Hatta at Meydan.

Trained by Saeed bin Suroor, Mawj was a high-class juvenile when her victories included the G2 Duchess Of Cambridge S. at Newmarket's July Festival. Last season, she won twice in Dubai before gaining the most prestigious success of her career when defeating the hitherto unbeaten Tahiyra (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) in the 1,000 Guineas, ultimately getting the verdict by half a length following a sustained duel between the pair.

That Classic victory on the Rowley Mile was followed by a five-month spell on the sidelines due to a setback, but Mawj proved all her ability remained intact when returning with two good efforts stateside in the autumn, first winning the GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup S. at Keeneland before suffering a narrow defeat to Master Of The Seas (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the GI Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita.

Mawj's Keeneland win was a 500th in Group company for Bin Suroor, who paid tribute to his stable star on Wednesday when saying, “Mawj is a very special filly, who showed her brilliance throughout her racing career. It was a fantastic day when she won the 1,000 Guineas and I was especially pleased that it was her who provided me with my 500th Group race victory out in Keeneland.

“She proved herself against the best horses across the world, winning in Dubai, the UK and the United States as well as finishing second in a Breeders' Cup Mile. Everyone at Al Quoz and Godolphin Stables is going to miss her but we look forward to the next stage of her life as a broodmare.”

Mawj joins her dam Modern Ideals (GB) (New Approach {Ire}), who is proving a notable broodmare for Godolphin having also produced the Listed winner/Group 3-placed Modern News (GB) (Shamardal) and the five-time Group 1 winner Modern Games (Ire) (Dubawi). Modern Games, who notably won at the Breeders' Cup in successive years when landing the GI Juvenile Turf in 2021 and GI Mile in 2022, stands for £30,000 in his first year at Dalham Hall Stud in 2024.

Nine new race days have been added to the World Pool calendar in the first six months of 2024, including the Newmarket fixture on Sunday, May 5 which features the G1 QIPCO 1,000 Guineas. One other race on the card will be included during a bumper weekend of action on the Rowley Mile, following on from the entire G1 QIPCO 2,000 Guineas card on Saturday, May 4 which has been a World Pool event since 2022.

The other additions to the schedule include the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas and G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup, both run at the Curragh on Sunday, May 26, plus five new fixtures from Australia–starting with G1 Blue Diamond Stakes Day at Caulfield on Saturday, February 24–and two from South Africa.

The World Pool, the largest globally commingled horse racing pools, was created and is powered by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). In total, there will be 21 World Pool fixtures in the first half of 2024, with bettors from 28 countries able to bet into the same pools on those given days.

Michael Fitzsimons, executive director, Wagering Products, at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, said, “We're excited to be continuing the expansion of World Pool in 2024 by adding new race days from Australia, South Africa, the UK and Ireland to our growing list of fixtures.

“We want World Pool to be in action for the biggest races throughout the year, so it's fantastic to add two more historic Classics to our roster in 2024, with the English 1,000 Guineas and Irish 1,000 Guineas joining the Epsom Derby, Irish Derby and English 2,000 Guineas as World Pool race days.”

Cachet (Ire) (Aclaim {Ire}), the winner of last season's 1000 Guineas, has been retired and will be seen next in the Tattersalls December Mares Sale.

The filly, owned by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, gave Newmarket trainer George Boughey his first Classic success at the Rowley Mile and was narrowly denied a follow-up victory in France when second by a head to Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}) in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches.

Cachet picked up an injury when fifth in the G1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot the following month and was off the track for 457 days before resuming at Doncaster this September. Her comeback run in the G3 Sceptre Fillies' S. saw her take fourth place, before finishing down the field in the G1 Prix de la Foret on Arc day.

“It didn't go to plan as she's a filly who likes to run on the front end, was drawn a bit wide and never really got into a position,” said Boughey of Cachet's final start.

“She will head to the mares' sale at Tattersalls later this year and I have no doubt she will become a super mum. If she could produce something half as good as her then we will all be very proud.”

He added, “She's a filly who has been an absolute star for us. She's my first Group 1 winner and first Classic winner.”

Bred by John Bourke of Hyde Park Stud from the Teofilo (Ire) mare Poyle Sophie (GB), Cachet was bought back when offered as a yearling by her breeder and was later sent to the Craven Breeze-up Sale, where she was bought by John and Jake Warren's Highclere Agency for 60,000gns.

Boughey continued, “In this game she was a relatively inexpensive breeze-up purchase who went on to win a Classic. She's got 20 owners and they have all had an amazing time with her.

“We will keep trying to find another one for them, but it is very hard to do so. She was a real gem and they are very hard to find.”

Craig Bennett of Merry Fox Stud, joint-breeder of arguably the most exciting juvenile filly in training Ylang Ylang (GB) (Frankel {GB}), recalls how a visit to Coolmore Stud a number of years back made a lasting impression.

Not for the sheer expanse of the operation, or the might of the stallions the world-renowned County Tipperary stud could offer potential breeders, but for how Coolmore marks its successes.

“When I went to Coolmore a couple of years ago, I can remember looking out at one of the paddocks where the stallions were,” Bennett started.

“They had plaques outside the barns with the names of every black-type winner that the stallion had produced. When you got to the likes of Sadler's Wells and Galileo (Ire), the plaques were never-ending.

“Every time we produce a listed winner or better now, I get a plaque made here and it goes up on the wall. My aim is to fill that wall!

“The first one for this year arrived this morning and that was Voodoo Queen (GB) (Frankel {GB}). So there's a pictorial representation of what we are trying to achieve here.”

Voodoo Queen carried the familiar yellow and orange silks of Merry Fox Stud to victory in a listed event at Pontefract last month. The victory was made all the more significant for the fact that she is a homebred out of the brilliant Cursory Glance (Distorted Humour), who gave Bennett, a qualified accountant, one of his greatest days in the sport when landing the G1 Moyglare Stud S. at the Curragh in 2014.

Fitting that the Curragh, a track Bennett describes as being a lucky place for him down through the years, played host to just about the most exciting debut performance that has been posted either side of the Irish Sea this season when Ylang Ylang justified the hype when scoring for Aidan O'Brien and the Coolmore partners on Irish Derby Weekend.

“She looks very exciting, doesn't she? It's really great to see. We had been hearing that Aidan liked her but I thought she did it very nicely. It's not easy to make all on your debut and, to quicken away the way that she did, she looks very exciting. I'm hoping that she will be the second Moyglare winner that we have bred.

“I thought Aidan's comment was quite telling after her debut. He said that she had been working with some of their very good colts and that she'd been doing things nicely. You have to be half decent to be able to do that.”

Ylang Ylang was bred in partnership with Newsells Park Stud and is the first foal out of Shambolic (Ire) (Shamardal), who Bennett picked up through his advisor Gary Hadden at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in 2019 for 800,000gns.

The sale of Shambolic's first foal Ylang Ylang will go down as a memorable one for the Merry Fox Stud and Newsells Park Stud axis as it kick-started what proved to be an emotional afternoon when selling for 1.5 million gns to MV Magnier and White Birch Farm.

Bennett said, “We started buying mares with Newsells Park Stud around 2019 and Shambolic was the second mare that we bought in partnership together. We paid 800,000gns for her at the December Mares Sale at Tattersalls but I think Juddmonte were the underbidders. I quite like it when you have such a quality outfit as Juddmonte who also wanted the mare. Shambolic is by Shamardal and I can remember when we were going in to bid on her, it was Matt Coleman who commented that 'they aren't making any more of them!' Therefore, you are not going to get the chance to buy many more Shamardal mares with the pedigree that Shambolic had.

“Ylang Ylang is the first foal and, if I wasn't in partnership with Newsells, I would have been 99 per cent certain to have raced the filly myself. But the modus operandi with Newsells is to sell the first progeny out of every mare. Obviously Graham [Smith-Bernal] has now bought Newsells and I get on great with him and have a great relationship with him and we decided to let Ylang Ylang go through the ring to see what she fetched. If we weren't happy with what she was selling for, the plan was to buy her back, but we didn't have to do that as her price flew up to 1.5 million gns. We still have Shambolic, and she's a very young mare, so hopefully this is just the start.”

He added, “We had an incredible Book 1. We had three in the sale–we kept one, Ylang Ylang made 1.5million gns and then we sold a Dubawi (Ire) half-brother to Acer Alley (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}) and Digital Age (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) for 1.6 million gns. We'd never sold a horse through the ring for more than a million and then we had two in the one day. I've always said that breeding and selling gives me a thrill for about 24 hours when you do it well but racing them gives you a thrill that keeps you going all year round.

“Take for example Voodoo Queen winning at Pontefract, it's just so exciting breeding a filly like that. Now, Ylang Ylang might be a bit different because it looks as though she might go on to operate at the very top level. The dam is still very young and it gives us every opportunity to really culture and develop that family now. It's just very exciting and it's great when people at Coolmore want to buy your horses because they are great judges and are great for the game. When they pay that sort of money for one, you'd have to be very disappointed if she wasn't any good.”

Ylang Ylang looked better than just good at the Curragh and is already sitting pretty at the head of the ante-post markets for next year's 1,000 Guineas and Oaks. A lot of water has to pass under the bridge between now and then but one thing is for certain, Bennett has an awful lot to look forward to with Shambolic, who looks set to play a pivotal part of his 25-strong broodmare band in the years to come.

“Shambolic has a Kingman (GB) yearling colt and has a filly foal by Siyouni (Fr) on the ground. She's back in foal to Frankel (GB) so it's exciting stuff. Graham wants to breed to the best, I want to breed to the best, and I think we can help each other. Newsells are a commercial animal and I am an owner-breeder so the mixture between the two can work well.

“We started in 2006 with a very clear plan which was to buy quality broodmares. I came at it with the angle that a quality broodmare would retain value and if you could get it to win a stakes race you could increase their value. We are still breeding from the families that we started with and have some very good broodmares, there's no question about that. I think it's important to ask the right questions when you are doing the matings, and that's what Gary [Hadden] and I do, because then you will get the right answers more often than not.”

Bennett added, “You need two things to succeed in this game. You've got to have time and you need deep pockets. I got into a nice position in that I sold a business that I had a share of back in 2006 and I have been able to take it from there. I am absolutely delighted to have bred four Group 1 winners which, for a small stud, is a wonderful achievement. Hopefully Ylang Ylang will make that five.

“I don't have a farm. The stud is completely virtual. We send the mares to wherever the stallions are based around October or November every year and we use Ballylinch Stud in Ireland, Fittocks Stud in England and Haras du Buff in France. That's the model. I'm not a horseman, I'm an accountant by trade and I can analyse pedigrees and love doing that. But the one thing I have learned in life is, don't pretend you are good at something if you know you are not. You can kid yourself that you know about conformation but, when I sit down and talk to Bill [Dwan] and Gary, it's bloody obvious that I don't know what I am talking about so you need to surround yourself with good people. If you don't, you will soon part with your money.”

Bennett's philosophy is a simple one; breed top-notch racehorses. In a relatively short space of time and with the help of his close-knit team, Merry Fox Stud has become synonymous on and off the track for its association with classy blue bloods and the best may yet be to come.

“Last year was incredible, we had four stakes-winning homebred fillies. If we could do that every year it would be fantastic. Voodoo Queen has hit the board already this season so we are up and running with one. Hopefully there will be more to come and, with a bit of luck, Ylang Ylang will be the next.”

If things continue apace, Bennett may need to find some more wall space.

The rematch between Mawj (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) and Tahiyra (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) is on at Royal Ascot after Dermot Weld described the latter to have come out of her Irish 1,000 Guineas romp in splendid order.

Mawj had just a half a length to spare from Tahiyra in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket and, after Tahiyra made little fuss in the Godolphin filly's absence at the Curragh, a mouthwatering rematch between the Classic winners could take place in the G1 Coronation S. at the royal meeting.

Speaking at a sun-kissed Gowran Park, where he sent out Ghaiyyath (Ire)'s Kingman (GB) half-brother Knight To King (Ire) to sparkle on debut, Weld said, “She came out of the Guineas well. It was a little bit quick to run her back after the English Guineas, but she's taken it well and at the moment we're all set for the Coronation.

“We'll play it by ear with the weather. We'd hope that they'd water it well, it's very dry, quick ground but it was lovely ground at the Curragh.”

He added, “She's got a wonderful turn of pace. She's in good order and the current plan is that we're all set for the Coronation.”

How about this for a debut win!

Knight To King (Kingman) is a half-brother to G1 scorer Ghaiyyath & runs out a ready winner of the Kings Of Ossory (C & G) Maiden for Dermot Weld & @chrishayes24 at @GowranPark1 pic.twitter.com/DxTxXq7Amk

— Horse Racing Ireland (@HRIRacing) June 5, 2023

Knight To King could be another Rosewell runner with big-race aspirations this season. Out of Nightime (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who won the 1,000 Guineas for Weld, he couldn't have been more impressive under Chris Hayes and in the colours of Newtown Anner Stud in the 1m1f maiden on Monday.

“He's a really nice colt, he had been working exceptionally well. All the family take a little bit of time and we're in no hurry with him,” said Weld.

“He's come forward in the last few weeks. He's a very good actioned horse, so I didn't bother with him in the spring on heavy ground. Please God, we've lots to look forward to.

“It's a great family for us and he's always shown us talent. He was very immature, mentally and physically but he's coming forward nicely.

“Obviously we'll go into stakes level with him now, there are many ideas in my mind. He's very straightforward and I said if there was no pace to make the running on him. The one thing we didn't want was a messy race with no pace.

“He was out there in front, he has a lot to learn. I think he jumped the road and Chris said he looked at everything. He'll learn a lot today and he's a really good colt in the making.

Four-time Group One winner Ghaiyyath and Man o' War Stakes winner Zhukova (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) feature among his half-siblings and Weld feels Knight To King compares favourably.

He said, “I think he's pretty similar to them. They all progress and get better with age, they are all very good. Hopefully he'll follow in their footsteps.

“He showed so much pace the other morning that I was surprised, in some ways, but he's bred to get a mile-and-a-half. We have a very nice full-brother to Ghaiyyath called Duraji (Ire) that we like a lot.”
